The great thing about 2014 is: if he really bailed out on the WB contract, and this all goes public in 2015... then it is all over.

And 2014 will be the last year we heard from Prince.

2 new albums and lots of leaked boots. I have enjoyed 2014. I wouldn't say it was 2004 big but the best we've had since.

Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Let me ask a sideways question:

-

Do you consider 1988 a "BIG" Prince year? In the USA, be severely mishandled the lovesexy promotion. The album flopped and the tour lost Prince a lot of money. In fact, it put him in the red.

-

Many people saying 2014 wasn't a "BIG" year are talking about 2 things: Promotion and Personal Taste.

Ok then, can you (Skywalker) - please define what makes a BIG Prince year, in your eyes then..?

AOA is amazing 8/10, Plectrum is awful.

To me what ruins 2014 from being BIG is the lost Purple Rain remaster 2CD: sad sad sad

Ps. Lovesexy was a UK number 1 album. Lovesexy was a success in most of Europe afaik. 28,000 saw the Lovesexy tour in Idrætsparken in Denmark 1988, yes I consider Lovesexy to be a succes. Both artistically and commercially. wink

^^^ IIRC didn't the Lovesexy start making a profit about 5 shows from the end?

To me, a BIG Prince year has nothing to do with how much I like (or dislike) the music he is putting out.

-

In order for a year to be a BIG Prince year, there has to be a public presence by Prince and a release that is promoted with things like videos, tv appearances, concerts, etc. Whether you liked the albums or not, Prince was VERY visible this year in a way he has not been for awhile.

-

The New Girl, Saturday Night Live, Arsenio, Various Award shows, concerts, Paisley Park gigs, showing up on facebook, twitter, youtube. These were all things Prince doesn't always or usually do.

-Regardless of what I thought about it all, there was a lot of Prince to be seen and heard from this year. He was all over the place.

AOA is amazing 8/10, Plectrum is awful.

My uncle doesn't like Purple Rain. Does that mean 1984 in not a BIG Prince year?

I though Under the Cherry Moon was one of the most terible things I have ever witnessed. That didn't stop 1986 from being a BIG Prince year. Hell, his cute little face was all over MTV and in Sheridan Wyoming. Embarassing, but still very big. There was a lot of Prince to be seen, heard, and enjoyed.

Is it lost? I mean, it seems like we won't get it this year, but is there any definite word on the thing one way or the other?

Ps. Lovesexy was a UK number 1 album. Lovesexy was a success in most of Europe afaik. 28,000 saw the Lovesexy tour in Idrætsparken in Denmark 1988, yes I consider Lovesexy to be a succes. Both artistically and commercially. wink

And that's just it. It's all about perspective. If you are from Europe Lovesexy was a smash. I am from Minneapolis. I loved the damn thing, but in the eyes of the US public, Lovesexy was a disaster and Batman had to swoop in and rescue Prince from it.

He's made a milestone every 10 years since 1984.
84- purple rain
94- The 1st hit under the new name (TMBGITW)
04- Musicology
14- Resign with WB, #1 R&B album and #1 Rock Album

So yea, all things considered, I think it was a big year. Could have been much bigger though.

A very disappointing year.

he stays the best performer on earth

Does he? He's an older man now. Great player, but pretty static compared to what he was. Like it or not, Bruno Mars is the new breed. Younger, dynamic and more exciting. Given a choice by promoters, Bruno would get picked first everytime. Fact.
