Small Club, 2nd show that night Say what you will...but if you really listen to Just My Imagination versus Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic, you can't deny that Prince tore it up moreso on 'Rave' than he did on 'Just My Imagination'.
'Rave' is absolutely maniacal and goes on for 16 minutes plus versus the 6 or 7 minute 'Just My Imagination'.
Yet, fams/fans tend to talk more about Just My Imagination.
I say pffffft!

I agree, he tore it up in Rave, although that guitar solo in JMI hits home everytime! "Prince don't know how many hits he got"

Is it true that the gig was completely unannounced? That everyone there (with the doors now closed) just happened to be in there already - fan or no fan?

* Why do you care about somebody liking one song more than another song? Why not just enjoy the song you like? I like them both and probably lean more toward "Just my Imagination," but I understand why someone would learn more toward "Rave." And, to be honest, I'm probably reacting more to the onslaught of threads like these and not just to your tread, but why not just spend positive energy discussing a song that you love. Give us insight and description about a song that you love, which may, then, cause others who have previously dismissed the song to reconsider it. I would love to hear your deconstruction of "Rave". When I joined Housequake so many years ago and then switched to Prince.org, I was hoping to be fueled by Prince fans who spent time providing varying insight about songs and albums that they love. As a person who reviewed books, I only published reviews about books that I thought were well-crafted and ignored those that were not well-crafted. It just seems that one can teach so much more discussing what is well-crafted than spending time lamenting or lambasting what isn't well-crafted.

I agree that he wrecked the house with "Rave". It's amazing that song is at the tail end of 4 or 5 hours' worth of kick-ass rock and roll. I don't know how Prince was still standing by that point, much less tearing the roof off the joint!

I was at the LoveSexy concert that night (18-08-1988) and there was talk of a possible aftershow in The Hague immediately after the show stopped. So it was most likely a mix of fans and non fans.
