Veteran artists who tour alot don't necessarily need to sell alot of records.

U2,Madonna,Prince,Bruce Springsteen,Paul McCartney....these people make their money on the road. That's their bread and butter.Their new albums don't sell, but that's OK.

Well done to Prince & team on both recent releases hitting the top of Billboard. To the infinite troll voice here, we know u r vexed, but U may now return to your violent wanking & waiting 4 the next release as we celebrate Princes successes.

U2's most recent album was obviously a free download. Their 2009 album was a massive, horrible failure for them. It sold 1 million in the USA, and 5 million worldwide, and they totally freaked, and wondered if they were "relevant." Just go to U2start.com to see all the bickering about the band's reaction to a 5 million selling failure.

Prince would love to have such a huge failure. His last five albums released to retail combined might be more sold than U2's ONE single release failure, but not by much. Madonna almost always outsells Prince...Bruce is 67 and outsells Prince. Paul McCartney is 72 and has been outselling Prince worldwide as well. And Prince is better than all them combined....but does more stupid things in regard to business strategy and promotion than all them combined.

True, however, Prince keeps his publishing, doesnt split with a band etc...Madonna has to pay writers, producers, studio time, Huge tour expenses due to props etc..U2 makes accsesible music, hell Bono said himself Prince shoudl have the best deal cuz, well, he is the best!

Doesn't matter who out sells who, they are all on the top sellings artists of all time list including Prince.

Prince's 4 albums alone sold over: 39 million copies which is still an amazing feat most artists strive to accomplish.

Purple Rain - 20m

Batman - 7m

Diamonds & Pearls - 6m

1999 - 6m

Regardless what he sells or doesn't sell, he's still hands down the BEST performer when it comes to live concerts.

the thing is,though is that all of these artists are successful touring acts.Madonna's tours frequently gross over $300 million. They don't need to rely on huge record sales.Hell, these artists don't even need to release new music, period.

When he decides to bring it, nobody is even a billion miles close to Prince live...problem is, he has some really inconsistent shows. When he mails it in, you feel bored to tears watching Shelby shouting "Put Your Hands Up" over 100 times...you might get a classic song like "Mountains," and then you realize the girls are mainly singing, and Prince is pretty much whispering in the microphone and is mainly a minor participant.

Some of the 3rd Eye Girl shows were quite legendary...awesome guitar, great vocals...but when he brings the NPG...some of those shows have been really sub par.

U2 doesn't have anywhere near the talent Prince has, but their live shows are always really good. They don't have crowd flunkys shouting at the top of their lungs. They don't hold the microphone to the crowd to sing for extended periods of time...

Since Prince is so awesome, he sometimes sleepwalks through shows. U2 bring it every night. The best Prince show is far beyond the best U2 show...but the WORST U2 show is also far beyond the worst Prince show.

Most time in charts they say world sales and U.S. sales are always seprate so I'm not sure if the U.S. sales were included as a total or not if they aren't obviously the total stands at 108,000 for AOA and 63,00 for PE.
