Unfortunately, the new albums are huge flops out of the gate. By now, Warner Bros must be regretting its partnership with him.

Are you sure your numbers include digital sales and are not just CD sales? If the numbers you quoted are only CD sales, the digital totals posted are certainly possible as digital accounts for the vast majority of sales.

Total sales : digital + physical copies, even preorder.

The US figure, still not complete is an estimation but really accurate.

The daily charts on UK, US and Japan showed that Prince charted higher the fisrt days of release, in the end of the week, Prince charts lower.

Why ? Because every prince's fan buy the CDs the first day, the other day it's just casual fans or consumers.

on the other hand, they most likely do not include sales through the WB website, or the official ordering pages, which were the outlets primarily promoted.

No promotion, no shows, no public appearance, no nothing after the release of the albums that would keep people interested in times where everything disappears in this information age where everything is competing for attention. Not surprised at all that the sales are low. The album is pretty damn good, and he got mostly good to great reviews. The last couple years ha really marked the death of album sales. Spotify and similar streaming apps are enormously popular, and most people don't pay for music anymore.

The new albums are NOT a flop! Barbera Streisand did way more promotion & she didn't sell very much herself. Muziq is just not selling much like it use to. prince did virtually no appearances besides his live webcast & still sold a respectable number.

U peeps are so negative & always quick to put prince out to pasture, like he is a has been lounge act or something. When just a few months ago he SOLD OUT a 50,000 seat ARENA!!! rolleyes

Thank God he doesn't care what any of U fairweather fans think...

My sentiments exactly. I've loved lots of low sellers before. The truth is that much of Prince's fabulous years post-Purple Rain and up to Lovesexy were largely huge commercial disappointments at the time. All got many less than glowing reviews and even SOTT wasn't universally heralded at first, it just grew in stature over that year (with U Got the Look and eventually the concert film).

Now most of this music is considered classic but then just like today, Prince remains a press agent's nightmare.

Oh really? In its debut week,Barbra's album topped US sales charts, selling over 196,000 copies. It slipped to No. 3 with 127,000 in second week, the lowest second week decline for a No. 1 debuting album since the week ending Feb. 16. Remarkably, Streisand has the smallest second-week drop for an album by an artist in almost four years.

hmmm all things considered,I'd say that Barbra's album is a hit.

Damn, it's top 3 in Norway iTunes, and the same in the only stores left selling physical CDs. 3 there also. Americans don't seem to love their Prince like Europeans do, and people wonder why he is touring the UK so much. Prince is selling nor than Nico & Vinz, which are Norwegians with a big hit in the states... Am I Wrong. It is saying something about the streaming culture. Young listeners care about hits and singles, while the grown and sexy still buys albums.

in this digital age, the playlist and streaming are king. Album sales are probably a dying breed. A true barometer of chart success would be to count the number of listens to a song on sites like Spotify along with individual song downloads.

Would be interesting to see how many downloads of the prereleased songs there were for each album.

Hmm So my apologies, it does seem them figures from iTunes I found were incorrect.

Still he scored a respectable 8th and 11th in the UK Album chart overall, goes to show his shows here paid off a little even if its not great numbers of sales, neither are any other albums these days. #

You cant really say they are flops when for someone to have such a long absence from the charts who isn't massive in peoples minds these days with little promo work done it isnt too bad.

Imagine if he had done promo though? Its a shame and maybe a bit of a kick in the teeth to Warner Brothers and he knows this I'd imagine.

Can't help but think if he had done Glasto this year he may have occupied the number 1 spot? Its a massive audience to reach.

prince really sold 64,724 copies! If U combine both albums. Which are both really his. That is really good, with virtually no tv appearances or having to leave his Paisley Park complex. Besides sending 3RDEYEGIRL out to do innerviews & minor overseas appearances. He is sitting pretty.

AOA will never reach the 100 k mark in the US. That's a big failure, promotion or not. It will be out of all top 40 in the world next week, probably some sort of record.

You don't get it at all. As much as i don't like theses 2 shits, I'm really disappointed by the low sales. I'm just reporting, predicting, analizing and commenting sales as they are. That's all. I'm not gonna say "yes that's amazing ! 60 k sales with 2 albums the 1st week ! wonderful numbers !".

I predicted here from the start that it was a big mistake marketingly talking to release 2 albums the same day, to not release a single and a video one month before the release of the albums, etc.

People here were like "shut your fuck up, Warner knows so much better than you, the industry changed, etc." pfff.

Because of this low sales we can say goodbye to :

- the reedition of PR with extra material AND huge promotion

- the reedition of all the prince catalogue at WB with extra material

- new albums from Prince in physical form

WB should have been, like I said, release the PR reedition first this summer, creating a buzz, and then months after the two albums, with making Prince sign a contract stating he has the obligations to :

- shoot a new music video

- perform on tv

- make a worldwide tour

in 3 words : promote the album

Wow! Where did you get this from?... Will be interesting to see how much Vinyl will be sold after that.

Vinyl = 3% of music sold. In the US market, it would give : 1300 for AOA and 650 for PE. It seems unlikely WB will be crazy enough to print theses vinyls, anywhere in the world, especially with the feud they surely have now.

Makes me wonder why, seeing the low numbers of the top ten, billboard doesn't count the sales of the vinyl in the total. Sales would be a little bit higher.

prince has 2 top ten albums in the same week in the usa...japan...holland and switzerland..aoa is top ten in most charts around the world...how is this a flop ?...cds are not selling anymore...i didnt realise that cd sales had fallen soo much in the last few years but i doubt online sales at warners are included in these figures...streaming from spotify and other sites isnt included..

.

prince sold over 180,000 copies of lotusflower in the first week in the usa...so his sales have fallen nearly 75 per cent in five years..so prince fans are getting their music from other sources now...the same for the music industry in general...it wont be long before cds are withdrawn altogether and charts will be compiled from downloads and streaming which should give us a more accurate picture of what people are buying and listening to.

.

i said years ago that a download fee should be added to internet access which allows you to download whatever you want..music..movies..whatever...and the fee should be distributed to the copyright owners depending on the amount of downloads people make of their product..this is the only workable way to do it imo..and would hopefully stop artists like prince from being so anal about his music being freely available on the internet.

With a music video, performance tv, tv ads, a real presence in social media, a hit in the top 40, and only one album released, Prince would have topped the charts with more than 100 k this week.

LOTUS FLOWER benefited from much more promotion.

With chart based on streaming, Prince would not be relevant anymore. Physical sales is what he needs to be on top.
