Can someone verify whether or not Prince worked with Lizzo?

Pardon my ignorance, but WHO are Lizzo and Eris?

Why would P work with these individuals?

They are Mpls local up-and-coming artists. Lizzo especially is ALL OVER the place here. Sophia Eris is one of her partners in crime, they work together a lot. Here's a coupke of fun links:

Having let the album brew for a day...

I guess I like it more than AOA... by a smidge. It's good, but by no means great. Wow, Plectrumelectrum, and Anotherlove are the best tracks by a country mile - and they are actually really, really good tracks. Funknroll and Marz are fun. Whitecaps and Tictactoe are nice. Aintturnaround is half great (I love the guitar). Fixurlifeup and Pretzel are okay. Stopthistrain and Boytrouble are pretty naff.

Comparing it to Lotusflower for a moment - Lotusflower is the better rock album. From and Back to the Lotus, Boom, Crimson and Clover, 4ever, Colonized Mind, Wall of Berlin, and Dreamer... it's a much more mature set of songs. And Lotusflower has a much more unique - sort of trippy - sound. Nothing on Plectrumelectrum is as interesting or unique as Boom or as heavy as Dreamer.

However Plectrumelectrum sounds urgent and is a fun listen and I hope 3rdeyegirl stick around, and rock harder and crazier and little more strangely on their second album (assuming). And I hope Prince screams a lot on it too biggrin

I'm sure I am not the first to observe that Plectrum Electrum sounds like The Ocean, and that Pretzylbodylogic sounds like Iron Man?

Been listening all day and even though I knew most of the tracks I'm sorry but it just goes down as more of the same old same old of the last 10 or so years.Hopefully AOA as an album comes across better than this though I'm not holding my breath.

Wow-B+

PBL- B

Ainturninround-A

PE-B

Whitecaps-B....would have been A if P was singing

FYLU - B-

Boytrouble - C. Great music, childish lyrics and singing.

STT - C (don't think it really belongs on the album. Inset Skrewdriver here)

Anotherlove - A+. Absolute classic.

Tictactoe - B+. Might move to A the more I hear. Really like it.

Marz- A

FunknRoll - A (both versions. Can't get enough of either)

B+ overall for me. Remove BT and STT and you have a rock solid A album. Overall very impressed that a 56 year old can come up with something as fresh and exciting as this.

5 star review in The Telegraph:

At 56 years old, there is a temptation to proclaim that Prince is emphatically back, although I am not sure if he ever really went away. He may not have had a big hit single since the early Nineties but these represent his 33rd and 34th albums (some of which have been double, triple and quadruple sets).

It would be ridiculous to accuse a genuinely great artist of excessive creativity but somewhere along the line he lost pop penetration, swamping listeners with so much music only a dedicated aficionado could hope to keep up. What elevates and unites these two offerings is a sense of commercial purpose and attack, an attempt to refocus the Prince brand.

Best of all, Prince sounds like he’s having a lot of fun, and fans will too.

Lotusflow3r isn't my favorite album but I hear what you're saying. 3rdeyegirl were billed as a harder rock group. The 3rdeyetv rehersals set a high standard and (to me at least) gave the impression THAT was going to be the sound of the album... then Prince decided to play with it in the studio and made it "girl rock". I was hoping for something that sounded raw.

Having said all that. It's really not a bad album. It's perfect for Radio 2... Boytrouble wouldn't sound out of place on Radio1 either. If Prince or the girls were to put any effort into promoting the album it could easily break the top 20 if not the top 10 in the UK

Did they re record some of the album tracks?!

Based on the tracks released, I was gonna heavily question the consistency and continuity of this album... didn't like "funknroll" as a single, but works great on the album!
nod
I gotta admit, this was surprisingly better than I expected, especially in regards to overall production nailing that it is a BAND album.

Outside of Hannah's vocals, some repetititve chorus' (shouting), and a couple lyrics... it's not bad.

I'd give it a C, it could easily be a B with those above things fixed. Also, production on this isn't as smooth and deep like in AOA. Maybe, because of the 'garage rock' feel they wanted but I think it hurts it in this day and age.

Art Official Age is atleast a B+ as is.

Having finally listened to PE after being up to my happy ears in AOA for a few days, I'm very pleased with it. It's what I had expected and hoped for from P and the grrrrls. It's a solid album and is in no way a throwaway. And I'm lovin' how he's still releasing his single projects AND side projects at the same time. Just like the old WB days. biggrin

Anotherlove - I love it when somebody covers a song and owns it/improves it. But in this case, sorry Prince, this song still belongs to Alice. Would love to see Prince produced by Citizen Cope, Alice Smith's collaborator. Seems to have that Revolution era eclectic sophistication.

I with ya in this.

I wanna also say this.
I like 3eg's version. But Liv's has that extra, undeniable (at least to me) 'umph' that takes it over the top for me. I feel prince got outdone and am surprised he ended up including the song, still, on his own project.

That said...anotherlove is the flip side.

Yes, Umph is right, she definitely brought it!

Anotherlove though, I'm having trouble liking the original. I prefer 3EG's, but I don't care for the song itself. That said, I love the guitar work & certain elements throughout the song. For me, Donna & Ida certainly shine bright throughout the album.

Nice to see people are digging it but I can't help but wonder what could have come out of a real collaboration with a girl group on the level of Haim. OMG that would have been awesome.
