Great little rock tune. Nothing ground breaking. "Lost my job at micky d's/giving away too much food for free". Although singing about a black child going to school without enough to eat seems a bit weird given 3rdeyegirl is 3 white girls.

Hannah isn't white.

Well thats news to me.

The point I was really making is why not just drop the racial line and leave the lyric ambiguous. Why should any child go to school hungry?

A big issue with the album is that we have already heard the vast majority of it and the songs that were truly new are mostly the weakest songs on the album, so from that standpoint the CD was a bit of a letdown. But when you evaluate the album as a whole, it is a decent CD for an experiemental Prince CD. It would have been a very bad move if he had released this without AOA, but with the dual release it makes it a nice package.

Here is my main problem with the CD. There is no great song. Wow, FunknRoll and Anotherlove are good songs. The other main problem is that there are a number of extraordinarily weak songs like Boytrouble, Stopthistrain, Whitecaps and Aintturninround.

Not loving this so far. Prince seems to have lost his love of rock and seems to be just going through the motions.

AnotherLove is a keeper (mostly like cause he didnt write it) and Wow is ok but other than those two tracks the rest is pretty meh and often borders on awful because of the terrible, throwaway lyrics (Fixurlife up/Pretzle being the worst offenders).

Its a shame cause the rock girl group concept might have worked if he worked with real artists rather than really good studio muscians. (psst: work with HAIM).

three days, listened to this for the 7th time

I like the album, I mean, I TRULY LIKE it

sounds like a Prince + a band album, something that hadn't happened since TRC

if anything, this whole AOA + 3rdEG project reminds me of Lotus/MPLS: I loved (love) the former, I despised (despise) the latter, same with AOA-3rdEG

Everything is not always neat & clean. I am sure Prince doesn't think white children should be hungry either. But there's a difference between the higher concepts of what we know to be true and songs that express more personal feelings--right or wrong. I can accept people saying things in songs that I don't fully believe myself. We don't all have to feel the same feelings.

I don't get the negativity towards this album ... I think it's every bit the equal of AOA.

And the female vocals are fine. Hannah's voice works well n the tracks she sings.

I don't see what's weird about the lyric in any case, but regarding the bolded portion:

I've seen this said before--but I admit my ignorance, and will go ahead and ask: what is she?

I really hate to say this but most Prince albums since the 90s do not have any great songs on them. I think you pretty much summed up this album. It would have made a decent ep.

The more I listen to this album, the more I think that a proper collaborative Prince & The Revolution album could be really good. Some of the songs, like Whitecaps for example, really remind me of some of Wendy & Lisa's work.

Hannah is bi-racial.

Gonna need a link here cause I dont see it AT ALL.

Doesnt matter anyway. Hannah is a great drummer and seems like a true sweetheart. (as do all the 3rdeyegirls). I dont see anything wrong with the line in MARZ. Not every mention of race is extreme racism.

Prince has written some horribly racists and intolerant things in the past but I did not hear anything on PE or in AOA.

Out of all of the artists in the world to work with I think P could do a lot better than the girls of Haim.

Yes, she does sing whilst drumming. I doubt she did that for the recording of the album tracks, but she certainly sings whilst drumming at the shows.

she gets her picture taken at the beginning of the show before making everyone put their phones away .. she certainly does not sing live and most of us know she cant play drums either

So, are you saying she is not mixed race after all? All I could find online is that she was born in Louisville, Kentuck and moved to Chicago aged 12. No mention of her racial heritage or her parent's race either.

She doesn't "look" mixed race, but looks can be decieving.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I much prefer Plectrumelectrum to AOA. I personally HATED the latter, but found the former to be quite refreshing. Yes, Hannah's singing is terrible...but it ain't like P hasn't had some awful female singers on his stuff in the past!

I like them both about equally. Good moments and cringeworthy tracks on both.. I like that this album has the more guitar heavy songs on it, so that's a big plus; but the female vocals are terrible (for me because her voice sounds a bit child-like and lacks "personality".... I mean, Brenda Bennett had a horrible voice, but it had maturity and gruff. I'd rather listen to her cough through a song over Hannah any day.)

If you will, so will I

Okay. I'm still lost. I mean, I didn't know Jill Jones identified as black until a few years ago, so I wouldn't be surprised to find out Hannah was mixed--but the original statement was so definite, I'd just like to know where it came from.

.

But since one of the messages above has me credited as originally saying she was mixed race, I'm having a hard time even following any of this.

Of course it's all personal opinion, but I'm really finding it hard to see how anyone can stand to listen to her struggle to get through a song like Whitecaps. It's painful. Her complete lack of singing ability was blatantly apparent when LOL was released last year, and sadly that song seems to have been her best effort.

Sure, Prince has had female vocalists who aren't great singers before...but they were always pretty much just doing the whole "sex kitten" thing, so it didn't matter so much. I mean, "Mr. Christian" or "Blue Limousine" don't suffer from Apples' less than stellar singing voice because the whole point of Appolonia 6 was to have a sex-laden chick singing cutesy sex songs. Not to mention the fact that Apples can at least hit the right notes. Hannah is flat as fuck, and a song like Whitecaps should be sung by someone who at least can carry a tune.

What's really interesting to me is that over on the AOA thread people are continuing to call Andy Allo "the worst singer Prince has ever worked with" yet she can carry a tune and has a pretty voice. No, she's no masterful singer per se, but at least she has a pretty voice. Hannah's is so, so, so awful.

I played Whitecaps for a couple of my friends and none of them believed that this was a song that Prince would have actually released on one of his albums until I showed them the physical disc. One of my friends said he thought it sounded like an open mic night at the local coffee shop, where you clap out of pity for the poor lady when she's done croaking into the mic.

No confusion, no tears. No enemies, no fear. No sorrow, no pain. No ball, no chain.

Sex is not love. Love is not sex. Putting words in other people's mouths will only get you elected.

BOYTROUBLE has sum madhouse elements in it. TICTACTOE is old school P. Ur NOT a diehard if ya don't at least appreciate it. WHITECAPS is WnL reincarnated. ANOTHERLOVE is a stonecoldJAMM. PLEC is a stonecoldJAMM. WOW is great as is Liv's version. Start PBL at the 13 second mark and it's a stonecoldJAMM. STOPTHISTRAIN is A taste of SUKIYAKI. FUNKNROLL is listenalble at last. MARZ is fun. Remember FUN? All in all, a solid album that GROWS onya over time. Add WnL on the next 3eG joint, and brilliance will ensue.

I have to be honest, I am not liking this album much at all. Hannahs voice is dreadful & the songs are all pretty weak. I am also annoyed that both albums in Australia cost $19.99 each and they should have been released as a double CD for the usual $30 price .....but that aside - the album is a big disappointment. I tried really hard to love it - but cant. eek

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

I'm astonished that i'm finding this one the weaker of the two.

Those cymbals over the bass hook in the verses on FunknRoll are really pissing me off.

I'd have put my house on me liking PE more than AOA.

Having watched the girls live 8 times this year i was really revved up for this album but the bad parts really are quite bad. Marz ,Boytrouble, Tictactoe.

That said. The good bits are pretty sweet and i've bought worse Prince albums before and probably will again. 6/10
