Ok, quick review on first listen

1. - Wow - This is good but not as good as Liv's but still off to a good start!!

2. Pretzelbody logic - I like this also. Good rocker!! So far 2 for 2!!

3. Ainturninaround - OMG - JUST AWEFUL!! Who ever singing just can't sing!! My ears were bleeding!! This one will not get another listen. 2 for 3 so far.

4. Plectrum electrum - This is an instrumental track that is ok. Nothing that really jumps out as great but not bad either. I will give this a pass and say 3 for 4 so far. Delete number 3 and we are doing great so far!!

5. Whitecaps - This would be a great song if Prince sang it. This is sung by a female she can't sing!! It has good lyrics but just fails due to the lead singer. 3 for 5.

6. Fixurlifeup - Great song!! 4 for 6

7. Boytrouble - This one is just some straight bull!! AWEFUL!! And yet another song that bites Ice-T's 99 problems in the lyrics. 4 for 7

8. Stopthis train - Yet another by this mysterious female singer. I hope Prince is hittin that hard as she may be talented doing that but she definately can't sing!! 4 for 8.

9. Anotherlove - This song could be very good but I have to downgrade it just ok as it suffers from a haunting chorus by a female singer that is so off key and drowns out PRince's voice. 5 for 8(saved by the blistering guitar solo!!)

10. Tictactoe - This is a song where the girls singing actually work with Prince's. This reminds me alot of the Wendy and Lisa days. I like this one!! 6 for 9

11. Marz - This I think has the best chance on the album to be a hit. GREAT modern sounding rocker!! 7 for 10

12. Funknroll - This is also good!! Similiar to Arsenio, 8 for 11

Well there is nothing on here that is just earth shattering but overall a very good album!! I give it 3 of 5 stars. Take away those 3 aweful songs sung by the females and not too bad!! I am disappointed Screwdriver was not on it though!!

AOA is up next!!

Liking this quite a lot. Now, if I could have my Prince on vocals all the way through (even on Boy Touble) I'd be even happier.

Quick question: is the second half of Plectrumelectrum the exact same audio as we heard in that short video that was available some time back? To me it sounds like it, which would mean that video was the actual recording of the song, something I don't think we've witnessed before!

Yeah i noticed that too, as I made an Mp3 of it at the time and have listened to it a lot. cool

Wow and Anotherlove are really great. Boytrouble is really horrid. And the album is kind of like that.

Really, I would like the album to be much heavier. There isn't a single song that rocks as hard as say, Bambi, I'm Yours or Endorphinmachine. Saying that, Ainturnaround gets pretty wild towards the end. Stopthistrain and Boytrouble just don't belong on the album.

Though I like Whitecaps and Tictactoe, I'd wish they'd use Hannah's vocals more sparingly or more creatively. Sort of like Meg's vocals on some of The White Stripes' albums.

Ultimately, I think there's some great stuff on here and there's some clunkers. It doesn't come together as well as AOA, which is a bit of a shame, because I like P's rock side best, and 3rdeyegirl are one hell of a live band. I'm hoping 3rdeyegirl make more albums and really crank-up the hard rock. I'm sure they can do it.

Standouts: Wow, Anotherlove, Plectrumelectrum, Funknroll.

This album is great. It's another Lotusflow3r/MPLSound situation for me. Two albums at the same time, one great one sucks. And again it's the rockier one that wins and the mid-tempo R&B ballad heavy one that falls flat on it's face.

.

I immediately want to put it on repeat - Wow, White Caps, Anotherlove, Boy Trouble are all great. I missed a few tracks by doing stuff in another room, but just from what I've heard so far THIS is the new Prince album.

Wow

Had only heard this live in fairly low quality previously. This version is cool. Kind of sounds like a disney song in parts... I can imagine a village full of towns folk singing this to a Disney Princess... "you can call her the unexpected or you can call her wow". It's a pretty good setup for the rest of the album. If you were expecting "Chaos and Disorder" or "The Undertaker" this isn't that album. This is for the most part straight up girl rock. Prince on vocals

Pretzelbodylogic

This has grown on me. The intro is annoying but it's a decent song overall. Prince on vocals

Aintturninground

Prince is well known for working with people who can't really sing. Hannah isn't a naturally gifted vocalist. Having said that, she pulls this off quite well. It starts off as a rock song and quickly speeds up to become more of a pop song. At 1.48 what I'm assuming is Donna playing guitar is awesome. Prince needlessly informing us that we're currently listening to an ultrasound of Donnas brain is uncalled for. Hannah on vocals.

PlectrumElectrum

Longer than the previously released video. Still as good, but the video got right to the point, this version is longer. No Vocals

Whitecaps

Nice song. Hannahs vocals sound good here.

Fixurlifeup

Great tune. Hannahs voice singing backup to Prince works really well. Around the 2:40 mark when the solo starts things get a bit messy - might just be me but it sounds like the guitar doesn't fit at all - deliberately. Prince vocals

Boytrouble

This is going to be a controversial track. It doesn't really fit the overall rock feel of the album. The gibberish being spouted is AMAZING. I'm not sure whats being said, or if they're actually words. I guess it kind of reminds me of some of Gwen Stefanis solo work, mixed with some New Young Pony Club. I really like it. There is some great guitar in here too. The bass gets SICK in parts. No idea who's on Vocals.

Stopthistrain

Hannah on vocals again - Joined by what I'm assuming is Josh as a backup singer. Prince puts in a few harmonies too. I'm not massively keen on this track. There are parts where it sounds dangerously close to reggae.

Anotherlove

This is awesome. I'm not sure how it stacks up next to the original since it's not a band I've listened to a lot. But there is some awesome guitar work on here. Arguably THE stand out track on the album. Prince on vocals.

Tictactoe

Prince vocals - nice track. Comes very close to being cheesy at times but I think it manages to avoid it. I think this would work quite well as an accoustic number. The chorus is catchy.

Marz

Great little rock tune. Nothing ground breaking. "Lost my job at micky d's/giving away too much food for free". Although singing about a black child going to school without enough to eat seems a bit weird given 3rdeyegirl is 3 white girls. A minor point but overall a good rock and roll number. Prince on vocals. I get a frenetic frantic vibe about the song similar to DaBang or No More Candy 4 U (though they dont share much in common musically)

FunknRoll

Clearly one of Princes favorite tracks. Good way to tie the albums together. While still being able to see them as two seperate albums.

I was really looking for a solid Prince rock album. PE gives us a few more Prince rock tracks. This is for the most part soft rock. Prince sings lead on the majority of the tracks. Overall I think it's another great album. There are a couple of tracks that I'm not overly keen on after a few listens. I'd have rather seen more focus on Donna and Ida rather than Hannah. Having said that Hannah is likely the most confident of the girls. I think I'll enjoy this album more when I can sit down with the lyric book

You might be on the minority there, but I'm starting to agree... Overall I think I like AOA better, but the highs here are very high... And I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes Boytrouble.
Another Love is amazing, and so is Wow. I also love Funknroll. Whitecaps not so much (although if we ever get to hear it with Prince in vocals I will happily change my mind). I really like Hannah, she comes across quite well, but I wish she hadn't taken so much of the vocals. Ain't turning around particularly...

actually like this record better than AOA. more melodic to my ear. Oddly enough I ended up liking U Know which is not particularly melodic.
The female vocals have attitude which work for me. I cant understand why these are particularly bothersome for people. They is not off key. They are also not about being amazing vocals - It's more rock and roll.
Want to listen to both more, which is better than my initial reactions tot he last several albums.

it's Lotusflower/MPLSound, only reversed. with that release i absolutely adored Lotusflower

this time around i'm impressed with and liking AOA a whole lot more and the rock album is

got on my nerves before they were through the very first run. don't really care for the title

track either, never did, but at least the 2:30 minute version was over quicker

It finally dawned on me(b4 the 15 second track tag played) what funknroll is. Its a swing number put on its head, 'roided out, and amped up in the same manner that PR's let's go crazy is a blues number put on its head, 'roided out, and amped up.

Damn, I WISH I had the original 'Screwdriver' in good quality. I LOVED that song, and it should have the cut here... it would have "driven" the album.

WOW: was expecting greatness from this. I think Liv's version stole the greatness and made this merely good. Her vocal dynamics were necessary. P's r relatively flat.
PRETZELBODYLOGIC: Great! Equally mature and immature. Love the chorus chants...so fun. Nice slides on guitar and tom pounding. A fun take on make love not war. It not so serious like many are..
PLECTRUMELECTRUM: GREAT instrumental. I like knkwung I've seen the second half as it was recorded in that Madison video
BOYTROUBLE: is awesome. I dont see why people hating. Very fun. Reminds me of a polished Sublime cut
AINTTURNINROUND: vox work but could be better...the rocking guitar and drums r off the chain. GREAT fills Hannah!
ANOTHERLOVE: P's cover owns this original like Livs's version of WOW owns P's.
STOPTHISTRAIN: I unno...its boring and nothing seems to stand out. Maybe I just dont get it.
TICTACTOE this ines a sleeper for me...meh. Maybe after some more listens and some lyrics i can catch it. .
MARZ: burnt my ear canal! Very good. They gonna get burnt over and over.
FIXURLIFEUP: Musically I enjoy it...but the vox are whiny and petulant. Could do wjthout them...they don't match the enery in the music.
WHITECAPS: I like this. Somber and chill. Nice mood setter for me. I like the drum and guitar sounds in this. The vocals fit with the tone of the song...but I see why some complain.
FUNKNROLL: not my cup of tea. Prefer AOA's version. I thought my opinion wiuld change if i heard a better version than the radio rip..but no. Decent album closer tho. Serves its purpose but i dint get out of it what many seem to get out of it. Sure as hell aint no exodus has begun. On a personal playlist of this album...i will replace it with PFunk.

Sorry for the songs being out of order.

Just finished my first listen through. I am in LOVE with this album, holy shhiiiiitt!

One of my favourite parts of this album was on 'Aintturninround'. The bit near the end with the distorted vocals and guitars sounded to me a lot like the very end part of the song '2112' by RUSH, where similar distorted vocals say 'We have assumed control'.

Also, the part in fixurlife up near the end with the bass pops and guitar sounded a lil Rush-esque too. Not a criticism, though. Just something I noticed and thought was really cool.

My fav tracks are Wow, Aintturninround, Anotherlove, Marz and Funknroll.

Very excited to get the phsyical release next week.

I am surprised how much I like most of PE on first listen! cool

Beforehand I had hardy listened to any of the 3EG tracks/clips that had become available as I didn't like much of the first few things that I had heard of them. The album has a phat rock sound and I can see myself liking a lot of these songs.

Although I usually am more a fan of Prince's funk and RnB offerings and AOA should therefore be more my cup of tea, I think I will end up liking and playing PE more!

RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I liked all the songs except Marz. Its too racially oriented. He is kinda an extremist now when it comes to being black and what not. The real and original prince didn't care what skin color you were. He just wanted to make music and to love one another.

Anyone know why Prince is so extreme about race now? I keep hearing people say Rainbow Children has racist lyrics I've never checked but maybe they are. Does it all have to do with this Jehovahs Witness nonsense?
