I've been pretty negative about these albums. However, I'm excited that it seems like there are gonna be a few good songs on each CD.

Holy. Shit. AOA is fantastic. The Gold Standard is the funkiest thing he's done since Lovesexy. No lie. I demand an extended remix! I'm trying to sit while listening to it. It's practically impossible. Hoooly shit, this is FUNKY. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Agreed. So far the only track I haven't loved is AOC, and I'm sure that will grow on me.

What really blows me away is how sophisticated these tracks are, how they use different textures than the stuff he's done before. It's like 1999 + Lovesexy + Symbol. It's fitting that this album is on WB, because fuck everything else since then. I am in heaven. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

There are many versions of selling out and I could care less if anyone sells out to all of the versions except for one....the modern mainstream R&B sound which is a result from decades of stripped down slow to midtempo shit hop or neo stool "nothing" music which absolutely ruined R&B and is the very reason that no one jams hard in the mainstream anymore. And damn right, Prince is a sellout when he does an album like this considering that he's been on his "real music by real musicians" kick for years. I buy a new Prince album to escape bullshit like what's on the radio these days, not to hear more of it. If I wanted to hear more of it, I'd just turn on the radio and hear endless amounts of that mess. There's a whole generation of R&B listeners these days that don't even have as much rhythm as a fuddy dud like Lawrence Welk with their tired asses whose idea of a dance floor jam is only slightly faster than what we considered ballads back in the day. Talk about some backwards ass folks, hell, they should have been born in the 1400s when everything was dull like that. . I've tolerated one or two sellout tracks on his recent albums but this time he's turned the tables and now the sellout tracks are the majority of the album with only one or two actual jams on it. So no, it's not worthy of my money and I won't be buying it and I don't need nobody trying to convince me to buy it, like it, or "let it grow on me" either because I know a sellout attempt when I see it and I don't support selling out to that sound. Trying to convince me to like and buy an album like that is like trying to convince me to buy a hooker with a cat that smells like fish and if Prince wants my money, he's gonna have to wash his cat. . . . Hells yes on all that. And Time is unbelievable. Such a simple concept sound, but my gawd it's sublime. He didn't get lazy with the lyrics on most of AOA, for sure. Just deep enough to keep my attention. "The password is what."

Awesome! Glad you are enjoying it so much! Can't wait to listen to AOA [Edited 9/24/14 17:16pm] The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I'm happy to hear these!! Thank you OP. I'm optimistic now. Some of the sounds give me feelings I had when I discovered some his 90's bootlegs. It's hard to explain but some of the sounds bring back glimpses of the past. Icing on the cake would be if he got back to his old ways and released some extended remixes of these.

With all due respect to them, but to anyone who's trashed AOA: You're fucking crazy. (I said "with all due respect," which is covered under the Geneva Conventions.) "The password is what."

This album is definitely not what I exoected. I can see this growing on me. It's the weirdest Prince album in a long time. The undercurrent seems to be that Prince is a weird futuristic Alien. It all works as a cohesive album.
