I actually enjoyed the H&R tours, also Musicology - CD and concerts, so that's not "a laundry list of all my disappointments". So you can exile yourself again if you like but I'm not going anywhere because you don't like what I say. [Edited 9/8/14 6:09am] Who says I want you to leave? You're fun, articulate and good with GIFs. It's just that in general, people who stop enjoying something for years are better off drawing the obvious conclusion : restaurants, bars, writers, film makers... It is the standard recourse of the dissatisfied. When I stopped enjoying Woody Allen, I didn't hang out on websites relentlessly criticizing. I just lost interest, was busy with another film maker. I barely bothered to review what he did. But I have enjoyed his last three movies, so let's hope you'll enjoy something soon about Prince.

I think we've been fortunate to have witnessed one of the greatest musical talents ever. Some of the music Prince has produced has been truly from another planet. With that being said I'm ok with someone still putting out music even when they're obviously past their prime. The music Prince is putting out now doesn't have the same spontinaity and creative genious it once did, but it's still nice to listen to. At least for me it is. U know is a good track and it has something about it that reminds me of his older stuff. I love the timing in the song. The man is old enough to be sombody's grandad. I wish I had a grandad putting out something like U Know. [Edited 9/8/14 16:01pm]

It's pretty good compared to much of his recent output but really, this is his best for a Double release?? Sampline, autotune and halfheartedness. No thanks. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Your repeated suggestions of such in response to me directly?
"I exiled myself from the Org for a number of years because "this could not be so I'm not playin" and stopped buying everything for a while. You should do the same in protest, as much as we would miss you."
"Well here at the Org we always wanted respectful debates and so in our magnaminous wisdom we allow quite a few chronic naysayers who can't seem to get disgusted enough to quit."
What resonated with me regarding Prince, some other Prince fans and the Org is the undeniable fact that there's NOTHING general about us! We're the exceptions to more rules than a few. We are not now, have never been, nor ever will be everyday people. Prince conforming his music to average and mediocre just doesn't fit right to me and I'm going to say so until I decide that I don't have to do so.

Hell no! Nor him laying on that bed with the sheet just barely covering him.
It's so burned into my memory, heaven forbid - should I ever get dementia - that will likely be the only damn thing I still recognize!

You're perfectly entitled to your pursuit of musical unhappiness if it floats your boat. I prefer to focus on what I like -- and there is so much to like besides this one artist, I don't really have time to play ascerbic critic, though I'm quite skillful in that department.

If you really think I am somehow musically unhappy and only like this one artist, perhaps you should venture outside of PM&M from time to time. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Where do I say you like only one artist?
I'm saying I (me, myself) don't have time to criticize artists because I like too many. I used to be able to afford to unleash my displeasure about an artist, writer or film maker's output, but I don't anymore.
When I was a teen, I was appalled Orson Welles made cheap wine commercials. He was a demi God to me and he wasn't supposed to plug stuff on tv or appear on The Love Boat. I told my film teacher about it and he looked at me with a smile. He was amused and so would I be today, hearing myself being so demanding and judgemental.
Orson Welles' first movie turned out to be his best, so you could say he had an horrible downfal, but did he? He was a human being and could be quite gross, but somehow I still look up to the guy.
(Just in case, I know you're not a teen)

I haven't read all the comments here but I'm guessing I am the minority when I say I actually like this track a lot. It's pretty current with all the other tracks out there but yet you can tell it's Prince . It grows on you after a few listens. I get the comparison to insincere and candles. I prefer this to Clouds which sounds dated. Whatever you heard about me is true

No offense towards you Hatrina, but what makes you comment that this is the saddest thing you've ever seen written about Prince music? RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Because he spent the greater(greatest) part of his career making music that could NEVER, EVER, EVER, NEVER be said to be "pretty current with all other tracks out there..." It's just sad to see that this is what it has come to, I guess. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

. Just to get this straight: we're talking about Prince, right? The guy who incorporated synthesizer sound into funk in the early 80s when everybody did synthesizer-loaded music (even Bowie). The guy who incorporated New Jack Swing elements and Hip Hop into his music on the early 90s just a few years after quite a lot of other people started doing that. The guy who did R-Kelly-esque 90s R'n'B in the second half of the 90s, admittedly better than R Kelly himself. Oh year, sure, Prince never, ever followed any trends (insert sarcasm warning sign here)...

Yes. Yes we are! Because I've never said that Prince hasn't tried to follow trends before. But even those "attempts" were NEVER, EVER, EVER, NEVER...said to be "pretty current with all other tracks out there..." I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I think strawberrybubblegum is just saying the song does not sound dated and is still totally Prince.

You are more right than you think. Prince incorporated new wave, the Paisley/psychedelia revival was already a thing when he made ATWIAD, and from that exploration came Parade. SOTT and Lovesexy are very soulful records and that coincide with a major soul revival, in the UK for instance. Prince always followed some trends but it was his take on these trends that made his music unique. Sometimes he could not pull it off, sometimes he could.
It always depended on his ability to musically say "this is my take on this trend".
So far, I think his effort is promising. I don't think he was in a good place when he made Rave or some other records. One thing Prince is not is a celebrity that tells you all about their personal life. I think he is in a good place right now, by the sound of the record so far.
