KCOOLMUZIQ

Why do peeps on here keep saying prince is stumbling over his words on this track?

His vocal effects & delivery, works perfectly over the flow & groove of this hot track.

It is flawless & hypnotising! One listen of it is not enough. Its addicting!!!!!

This long 17 page thread is proof of that....

Way longer than the "White Caps' thread......

Much much better. Sounds great. Nice to hear Prince stepping out of his old comfort zone. The production doesn't sound as poor as the last couple of tracks. I like it a lot

ok... now we need to get you on with Clouds biggrin

Well, I thought I liked Clouds a lot when we first heard it. I had 6 hours in the car yesterday and played this on super heavy rotation, with only a couple of interpolations of Clouds.

This sounds MASSIVE on a good system. For those who gave it 20 seconds and turned it off, I would try again on a decent system or phones and see. The chorus is IMO the best hook I've heard from Prince in many many years. From 1.19 onwards it's just brilliant. Vocals are awesome. Uh huh U huh cool

It's just a test, that you be winning!

MORE MORE MORE please.

I like the song a lot... but one thing I don't like about it is that I have no idea what he is talking about... its vague and after several listens.. but it works sonically

I just wish I knew what the fuck he was talking about. The reason I like the female rappers song better is because it’s clear what she is talking about and it’s relatable and its sexy. I saw someone say Prince's voacal is sexy... As a man I have found many Prince songs sexy but this ain't one of them.

In the rappers version people are talking about her man... dissing him but they don't know him like she does. She loves him and will stand by him... and it’s delivered with a grit and smartness that I love

I listened to Prince and the grit he raps with sounds a bit forced and he stumbles as the song goes on. P is really struggling with words and rhyming in all of his songs and delivering vocals without clumsily falling over his words. He does this towards the end of this song with his rap. However, I do like the song. It doesn’t sound like anything he has ever done before EVER. So I love that and I kept waiting for the guitar to come in... for him to totally alter the feel of the groove with his guitar...and he didn't do it. I was so proud of him. I know that sounds funny but I know there are people out there who know exactly what I am talking about.

Overall ... good job Prince

Some good points. A lot of his songs lately leave you wondering what the fuck he's talking about (ie Pretzel) and the lyrics can seem iffy with clumsy ryhming.

.

But I suppose we should give him credit for trying something a bit different (for him) and stepping out his comfort zone. If he does a ballad like Breakdown people say 'we've heard it before' so he really cant win.

.

The song itself has grown on me a bit after first initial listen and being put off by the auto-tune. Still love Clouds and think its his best song for a long time

The song is definately a grower. Yesterday it was ok, the day before it was pretty crap. And it is shown in this thread the "growiness" of it. Initially the comments were pretty negative but as time has gone on this thread is getting more positive about the song.

.

I think, like myself, people who just cannot stomach modern RnB initially balked at the song on first listen because it is hard to get through the initial disdain for the genre. But once past that, and the song is allowed to play on its own merits, it can be catchy.

.

It wont be converting me to the modern RnB church anytime soon though, but a pretty good effort from the P. I just hope the album as a whole doesnt have this vibe running all the way through it, that would be too much for my funk and rock sensibilities.

I'm hoping that's the case. I didn't hate it so much on 2nd listen. Waiting for the album now.

I feel I have been fairly cynical so recently. So I just want to say I liked the track and the production. I think maybe people get shockwaved from hearing the vocal treatment. And I call b.s on Prince stumbling on his words. In fact the rhythm is tight and a distinctive hook. This is better than most of the stuff on the radio. I guess his competition is still him in the past, and the next time the m'f'er pulls card it better be an ace to quote the purple man. I give this song a confident 7 which will survive further listens.

And I never said I gave a damn about whether you care what I listen to. You can not be objective when it comes to Prince. You call people fairweather when it comes to him but you are a fairly recent phenomenon on this site yourself (posting-wise).

I could gove a ton of examples of fans embracing R&B Prince. You want to make an issue when there is noen.

Ha Ha. I think it's fair to any artist to give a new single at least a week's rotation before dissing it, like so many orgers did with this track. Prince's work is deceptively simple, but actually very layered. Usually. wink

Then we also need to give a week before praising too. People could change their minds either way, probably best to ban all threads about new songs for a week. Or is praising and changing your mind later ok but dissing and changing your mind isn't?

Huh? He made a piece using someone else's track? I'm now listening to the original and it seems to be the case. It's the first time for Prince.

I sometimes dig that type of an approach, blatant sampling / borrowing and then mangling it up, but I'm really surprised Prince actually did this.

Lol
No wonder I thought Prince sounded like he was getting out of his rut and the production didn't sound as poor. It's basically someone else's track.

Poor Prince.

I´ve liked it right from the start, but have to say the more I hear it the more I like it. It is really catchy! This is the Prince with contemporary production that I have been hoping for. Huge step in the right direction. It would be great if he did an album with some really good dance and modern RnB producers who are able to transform Prince's basic songs into something that sounds more interesting and more of this time as far as production styles.

BTW, I would have loved to hear a backwards played guitar solo in " U Know", like in Jimi's "Are You Experienced". That would have been the icing on an already tasty cake!

It is not new, it is not innovative, it is not catchy, it is not what Prince should or schould be. Because it lacks anything that could be considered a glimpse of his creativity. "U Know" is boring as hell.

Prince is sparsely daring in these modern times. He stays within the lines. He gets paid and doesn't care if the music he makes nowadays adds something to his musical Palmarès. Where is the anger of F.U.N.K.?

Xpectation and N.E.W.S were the last albums that had a certain joy, but with every new album it is eroding further from his music.

Somehow it starts to be a task to listen to his new music. It is like making homework or doing chores.

He still can write a fine tune, but it is too lackluster to make any impressions. I'm afraid that this album gets a few spins and will be collecting dust for years to come.
