Just to clarify, if I preorderd the CD & digital tracks from the Warners site, I am supposed to be able to download this track and Whitecaps as of now? I've not had any links come through on email.
TT. All of my hang-ups have gone. How I wish you felt the same.

Actually, the music is really haunting, until I found out that someone else wrote the whole fucking music! And it is some lame female rapper/singer.
My hope is that this version of U Know is actually a remix and the actual song has Prince penned music, which could be worse. lol. All you others say Hell Yea!!

The more I hear it, the more I like it. Prince really takes it to the 9's with his depth and layering. I can't pull myself away from repeating it 2Gether 4Ever

Have you heard the original? Sure it's the basis of the track but there's a lot more going on in U Know, he's not just singing over the backing track of the original. RIP

this evening I have got 2 emails from Warner: Prince 4Ever.

I got emails to download both yesterday. I actually really like Whitecaps. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Me too. I like both very much. Whitecaps is really nice, but U Know is the nutz. I listened to the original track by what's her face and it's bilge. This is layered magic, with a chorus impossible to get out of my head. The use of the loop works wonderfully well. I think it's a really creative effort and sounds awesome. A*

Got mine this evening too but the other way around. Whitecaps first, then U Know. RIP

A* I was expecting the worst with Whitecaps given the reaction here and my own initially boneheaded negativity toward U Know. But I dig Whitecaps a lot. The lyrics are lame. But I love the vibe. The song breathes. It sounds natural. Organic. It's a good song. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

It keeps on getting better. What?

Yup. I emailed Warners to ask about the download links and a couple of hours later they both came through. I thought it was because I asked but I guess I would have got them anyway. All of my hang-ups have gone. How I wish you felt the same.

After many listens now I'm jumping on the "this is an R&B track" bandwagon. It really is. (It ain't pop, rap, hip hop, rock, etc.). And it's a genuine, innovative, relevant Prince R&B track -- not him trying too hard to sound like "today's" R&B. I know... it's done over a sample, but I don't care. He's used that as the base only and added his own purple touch. It's haunting, sexy, catchy, has attitude, a little funny ("oh no he di'int"). Most importantly: it's UNIQUE. He put effort into this one, which might explain why this thread is now 18 pages long. . I only wish the outro was extended. That was some funky stuff. I'm with the growers on this one. It's really not a song you can judge on a couple of spins, there is a lot going on. Not it's not a classic but I think we would all be better off if we stopped waiting for Prince to defecate classics out of his bum every time he goes up to the plate. Does the song have a good hook? Yes. Is it funky? Yes it is. Did Prince actually put some thought into the lyrics? Yes. Is it better than anything JT could do right now? I think so. This song exudes cool and if it were by a younger artist would already be on the radio. Prince is 56 so that is going to be a challenge, even for mighty Warners. But personally, it is one of his most commercial, and yet strange and Princely, jams he has put out in a while. 8.5 out of 10 on this one. All good things they say never last...

All the toying with the phasing and fading...the proportions and what is changed get me going. The stops and bass wind-ups get me too.
These r the kinds of things I don't see in much typical r&b and much of pop these days. On a cursory listen..the song is a little boring...but when dug into...its very engaging. Makes its success on radio questionable to me. I can't wait to hear this could be us. This is the source of most of my anticipation. I can her some great layered vox...and the the bass vox punch in and it's lush...I can't wait to hear more than that tease. [Edited 9/5/14 18:05pm]

[Edited 9/5/14 18:05pm] We might get it on Monday if, as someone pointed out earlier in this thread, the songs whose duration was shown in the trackist are the ones we get as previews 'U Know' has seriously grown on me too, from the 'wtf' initial reaction to a little obsession five days later...

I'm enjoying the available songs. I'll probably compile the two albums and other, previous, recent releases to get 1 mighty fine piece of work. No human being can live up to the extremely diverse expectations of the fans who are predestined to become haters. See it as it is, take it or leave it, for there is no standing still. This forum gets rather bitchy n tiresome whenever the man gets busy with an album. So hateful. I'm outa here. small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

I've reserved my opinion of the song because I wanted to really give it the chance to "grow on me". I've tried getting through the song 10 times now and the only thing that has grown is my distaste for it.
The obviously inserted over used sound byte of "Unh. Uh huh, uh huh" starts off making me cring.
Then comes this flat out crock of BS: For the record, let me state
Which leads directly into this: For the playa, let me stop and say-a Oh no he didn’t
My very best efforts at trying to give this song the benefit of the doubt were no match to hearing Prince himself say, "Oh no he didn't."
By 49 seconds in, I've just been completely like:
And by the end of it:
****DISCLAIMER*****
This is just my honest expression of what I feel regarding Prince's new song "U Know". My stating this is in no way, meant to disparage what anyone else feels regarding it. So bless you! Do you! Bless me! Leave me be!
I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I felt some serious secondhand embarassment for him when he said "oh no he didn't" too, but then the more I think about him and his sense of humor, I think he was just being stupid. Can you really hear him saying that IRL unless he was just goofing off? You all know how he his. Everybody stop on the 1...GOOD GOD! Uhh!

As soon as I heard this I with the "uh uh" woman's voice in it I thought of that Kenye song where Kim Kardishian says "uh Huh Honey....." you know the song with the dreadful video of Kenye and Kim on the motorbike - *cringe*. Hope this P track grows on me Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Make light of a situation, 2. Make fun of someone who has said it, 3. Make fun of someone who might as well have said it. I chuckled at what I thought was a quip when I heard it.
