So, Prince is the only major artist who doesn't care about physical release. What is laughable, is that prince is an artist that sell better on physical than in digital. Again, commercial nonsense.

I'm not sure about that. Overall digital now surpasses physical sales. I could name more than 100 people I know, whose music consumption habits I know too, and only about 2 or 3 of them still buy CD's or LP's, all the others have switched to digital (legal and/or illegal) and most of them aren't even youngsters but late Xers/early Yers like me. Why isn't Screwdriver on Plectrum? Why wasnt Joy in Repetition on Sign O' The Times? P.s. this is non-sense to you. Because this time we have a release date, pre-orders, tracklists, singles etc. So it makes perfect sense as it is. P.s.2. You're basing your bitching on quite a fw assumptions on how things will go. [Edited 8/26/14 5:57am]

Calm down, ok ?. Don't begin to be rude.

What I say makes sense. I think you just don't know the running time of a vinyl and a CD.

LOVESEXY and BLACK ALBUM are not on the same disc, because at that time around 1987/1988, a vinyl couldn't exceed 47 minutes. They are not on the same disc because they were not released on THE SAME FUCKING DAY.

Even in 2014, you can't put the 90 minutes of LOVESEXY and BLACK on one COMPUTER DISC. So, it does make sense.

JOY IN REPETITION is not on SOTT, because it's already a double disc, and a 3 disc was unsellable. So, it does make sense.

I'm just basing my bitching, as you said, on logical things. Releasing 2 albums the same day, with a running time that could fit on just one disc, that is not bitching, but just telling how things are.

Sorry if I sounded rude, didn't mean it. By the way, what I'm saying is, these are 2 different concepts of albums, who cares if they are released the same day? There is also something called "attention span" for listeners, which is something artists care about when it comes to compiling an album, and IIRC this was around 45 minutes for an album, after which you lose the casual listener.

I don't really get why it is so difficult to think of these 2 albums as 2 separate things as they are. First of all, if he wants to do an album with 3rdEyeGirl and another one solo, why should he put things together if things flow nicely on 2 different albums? Second thing, what's the difference in releasing them on the same day, or one at the beginning of the year and another one now? It probably makes more impact on headlines saying "Prince is releasing 2 albums".

I don't understand why so many orgers are
so very concerned about the promotion of
Prince's music. I'm happy I'll be getting
2 cds at the end of September. How well it
sells and how its promoted mean little to
me. I think some of you need to get your
priorities in order. Or get a life instead of
living vicariously thru Prince's career choices.

These two releases are potentially the very first Prince albums I might only end up getting as digital downloads. I've got about £13 itunes credit at the moment and I've been struggling to get inspired by anyone musical enough to spend it. Might as well use it for these. Are the CD releases going to be an afterthought do you think?

I know what you mean - our enjoyment of the albums shouldn't be affected by WB's marketing campaign, or by chart figures. However, the performance of these new discs will determine how, or if, we get releases from Prince on Warners in the future.

Obviously you are not buying bootlegs.

One company did put out 90 minute CD's. (still does?)

And that is just the smallest computer disc which might be readable today.

90 min exist for recordable disc, but they are not readable.

Did I mentioned 'recordable'?

No major ever released an album exceeding the 80 minutes. If they could afford it, they would have done it, it would be very useful for greatest hits for instance.

It would be more useful to deliver fresh kick-ass material.

45 minutes is plenty.

There will always be a base that wants a physical product. We can then make our own digital format(s) from the CD. We can even SELL the CD later for various reasons -- something you can't do (yet) with digital downloads.

.

If all downloads were lossless, I'd reconsider switching to all downloads.

Art Offical Age (Artificial Age)can mean several things .. one is the obvious reference to the fake plastic surgery push up boobs make up botox people .. and the other might be a reference to the horrible fake sounding music that dominates media these days.

Prince, whom at times considers himself an 'artist' can also be saying that his Art is Official as in, its not 'artificial'. This concept is in line with his "live" plectrum electrum effort and the fact that he is pandering to the vinyl crowd which generally suggests a more genuine artist as opposed to say the top 99 on the billboard charts.

In that sense the actual Art Official Age or Era concept works along with his 'real music for real music lovers' and the 'artist formerly known' concepts.

It's cute but with such a statement I would expect Art Official not to pander to modern production and writing trends. With the songs I have heard I don't think prince can live up to the concept he presents with the title, but it is still an interesting title.

It's difficult because nobody ever did that. Never. So, it will be difficult to sell. LOTUS FLOWER/MPLS SOUND/BRIA VALENTE was a mess too, but it was sold together, at a low price. With 2 videos, the set sold only 600.000 at 9.98 dollars. I's a good indication about the future sales of PLUM and OAA.

The difference between releasing 2 albums on the same day and one after the other is the following : you can't make people interested in two separate projects of the same artist on the same time. 2 much confusion. You'll see. If nobody ever did that, there's a good reason.

In february Prince promoted PLECTRUM ELECTRUM, without releasing it. Waste of time. Prince made the NEW GIRL episode in february too, with a rating of more than 27 millions. Waste of opportunity.

yOUR THEORY ABOUT THE 45 MINUTES is interresting, but in fact is not true. Attention span is about 90 minutes. I never heard of 45 minutes, way too short. think about movies thant run for more than 3 hours : Titanic, GODFATHER 2...

Many albums have a running time of more than 45 minutes : SONGS IN THE KEYS OF LIFE, SIGN OF THE TIME, WHITE ALBUM, DANGEROUS, ALL THINGS MUST PASS, THE WALL, etc. I have never read anything about these album being too long.

Humor. This site is full of negative messages against Prince, his women, his music, his wig, etc. I'm not negative with any of that.

I'm just telling things how they are. Releasing 2 albums the same day won't work commercially. they have only 2 months...Artistically I don't understand the need to split 1 CD into 2 albums. Prince always do eclectic music.

the 2 albums will be released sep 30.

But there are 3 singles now for download, most importantly the newest song, his single: "Clouds".

IF, I remember correctly the other 2 singles are: "The Breakdown", & "PretzelBodyLogic".

Slightly linked to this I noticed iTunes UK also subtracts the price of any single tracks your have purchased from the two albums.

The Breakdown on Art Official Age shows as already purchased on my account so 99p gets taken off.

Pretzelbodylogic on PlectrumElectrum should be the same but the single track I purchased a few months ago is just ever so slightly different (e.g. 3:26 duration as opposed to 3:28) so the 99p does not come off. It ain't gonna break me but slightly annoying.

This is great news! biggrin Looking forward to the end of September. I wonder what these 'special worldwide events' will be? Assuming that they happen.

.

However I'm looking forward to 'Plectrumelectrum' much more than I am looking forward to 'Art Official Age'. After listening to it a few times, I'm not really fond of 'Clouds'. It has nice bass and keyboard throughout and some lovely guitar at the end, but it doesn't really come together and the lyrics are dire. I'm still hoping that it'll be a good album and not just a calculated attempt at chart success.

.

'Plectrumelectrum' on the other hand, looks really promising. I love 'Wow', 'Plectrumelectrum', 'Marz', and the 3rdeyegirl 'Funknroll' that was on the radio, and 'Pretzelbodylogic' isn't awful either. People on the org seemed to really like 'Aintturninround' (and I hope it's as heavy as they say it is) and 'Anotherlove'. Above all else, 3rdeyegirl have a really good sound and their production has been leagues greater than anything Prince has done in a long time.

.

Reminds me of my father in his imaginary "every one makes 10,000€ a month" fairy tale world. He says things like "poor guy only makes 2,500€ a month, it's not a life!". falloff

Yeah, well, I know a whole crowd of people who'd like to make 2,500€ a month and a whole crowd of musicians with a record deal who'd love to sell 600,000 copies of an album.

Throw your TV through the window: the perfect world they show ya, populated only by young, beautiful, rich and happy superstars who sell 15 million unit of every single dropping they shit isn't for realz. And also this is not 1991 anymore, in case u don't know, record sales aren't what they used to be.

No?

I think you are correct. I pre ordered the new Stevie Nicks album a couple of weeks ago from Warner Brothers and that also listed 3 "Digital Singles". I received one so far and it is a song from the album, not an extra. Could be different with Prince, though.
