This is not Prince's album for WB. The WB album is a solo project with songs such as 'The Breakdown' and 'This Could Be Us'. This is the 3RDEYEGIRL group album, which at one time had Kobalt as its distributor.

It is beginning to sound to me like Prince is not sure which versions of the songs to release - with him on vocals or Hannah. All the listening parties seem to be aimed at testing the reaction of people to the different versions.

Oh please not Hannah on vocals. Please, please, please not.

I'm not exactly enthused about that either. 'LOL' was terrifyingly awful and I've even heard rumours she duets with her husband Joshua on one track. At the moment, reports seem to suggest Hannah is taking 50% of the lead vocals on the album. Shame, as I think Prince is onto a winner with the sound and group overall.

Sooo... where are the reviews? The few "tweets" I saw weren't reviews. One particular ignoramus said something like, "Nothing this guitar heavy since 'The Gold Experience'...". Did this dude miss 'Lotusflow3r'??

.

Anywho... would love to see reviews. Let's all hunt them down, and post here.

Perhaps Prince should include his lead vocal versions as bonus tracks or as a 'deluxe' edition? Maybe we could suggest that?

Well technically, it's not a Prince album anyway lol even tho I wish it was like band driven but still with him on lead vocals. Idk. One dude on Facebook went in on prince. Some Joey coco guy. He said it was terrible (he actually said it in a worse way lol) idk. I just wanna hear it. I hope Prince is singing the most on it at least. Smh. Got a strange feeling this record will be vault food.

What did he say?

Parade had 'I Wonder U'. I'm not saying Plectrumelectrum will be any near Parade in terms of quality, (though I'm not saying it can't be), but just because it will have a song or two with Hannah on lead vocals doesn't mean it will be bad.

[Edited 7/13/14 3:58am]

Wendy and Lisa have beautiful voices. Hannah's is thin and shrill. I'm certain that "LOL" would have been dreadful even if P sang it, but maaaaan Hannah's voice was the icing on that shitcake.

I've never been less interested in a Prince-related album. At this point, I'll probably download the Prince songs and not even buy it. He's done an excellent job in the last few years of killing my lifelong enthusiasm. Oh well. Thank god for St Vincent, Beck, Jenny Lewis, Chromeo, and OK Go, to name a few artists still releasing great music.

So where can I find this "Joey Coco"s scathing review on Facebook? It's sad that most of the attendees would tell him it was brilliant no matter what. It's like the music has taken second stage to the fame.

Joey Coco? He's pretty receptive to most new Prince albums. If he didn't find anything to like about it, I doubt very many people will.

Alright, just woke up.

All told, there were maybe 100 people at Paisley Park last night (most were setup at the stage as if Prince was performing). Yes, there was both a pool table and a ping pong table.

I was tapped by IDA to be part of the first group of 15 to go into Studio B to hear the new music.

The 3rd eye girls were very nice and accomodating on the questions related to the music, their life, etc... Josh Welton was holding down fort at the master console (and yes, Prince's microphone was next to us). All 15 of us were sitting near the console on couches. Lianne La Havas was in the room listening until Prince called her up to his apartment on the second floor.

The music...

1) Unexpected Wow (Prince's solo version of the same song released by Liv...amazing).

2) Pretzelbodylogic (blah)

3) White Caps (Very good duet with Hannah and Prince about love being lost after 15 minutes away from her, seeing the white caps on the ocean).

4) Plectrum Electrum instrumental (Written by Donna "arranged by Prince")

5) New Hannah song (no Prince vox)

This was Plectrum Electrum. Questions asked

1) What else is on PE? "Dunno. You will find out"

2) How many songs will be on it? "Ida said 11-12"

3) Is Funkn Roll on PE? "Josh smiled and said dunno"

4) How did this recording come together? "Just jamming in the studio together...live without much overdubs to get organic feel"

5) When will this be released? "Don't know."

And then the REAL fun began...

Prince debuted his new masterpiece that we can only assume is on the Prince record.

It's called "Another Love" which is a combination of Gold/Holy River about losing his woman and the pain to get back even keel in live.

Was amazing time. Thanks to the 3rd eye girls for making us feel welcome last night.

Tolly C

Sooooo...this was another listenting party to announce that there is no album and it's never coming out unless and until someone pays Prince 10 million dollars up front for the pleasure of distributing it. The last year of this nonsense is the most embarrassing saga of Prince's career, hands down. I mean, this is a full-on psychic meltdown. What a shame.

Your reflexive need to "defend Prince" is both hilarious and indicative of the type of sycophant he's surrounded himself with for far too long. Go tell him what a "masterpiece" LOL was, and how badly you want to hear a whole album with Hannah on vocals, Donna on guitar, and Josh on cowbell. In the meantime, I'll still be posting on here, listening to the Prince music that I like, and listening to those artists who are still pushing themselves artistically.

tollyc,

Thanks for writing this up. I was in the same session as you and came away with pretty much the same impressions of the music. I'm really looking forward to hearing the album in full. "Another Love" was increadible (although, I thought it fit well with the other songs and might very well be on the 3EG album).

I was going to write up something last night, but after reading all of the negativity on here about music people hadn't heard, I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. I'm glad you shared your experience.

not defending at all..i havent heard the songs etc that were heard or played. So , for me to base any opinion what so ever would be inaccurate and irresponsible. . So, once again, go listen to St Vincent and whoever... This is however a Prince/music, etc baord,, there is a non prince board on this site to dicusss your above mentioned artists

smile You're ridiculous. Okay, so I expect you to make sure that nobody talks about any of the songs on Plectrum Electrum that don't feature Prince on vocals on this board, even in passing. There is an "Associated Arists" forum, after all.

And if you don't think that your multiple posts on this thread seem defensive, then you need to work on your self-awareness.

They signed the deal with him after he'd been promoting said album for over a year (including supposed singles from it with non-Prince lead vocals)... so it's their own fault if they have a problem. He didn't spring this on them.
