Like how could Prince and WB screw this up Releasing the ReMaster on Tuesday to coincide with the anniversary was a slam dunk...How could they not have a line of communication to get this done..
I dont want it in the fall as my memories from the album are from the summer of 84, not fall or winter. Will not resonate with me if released then. I'm speaking for me [Edited 6/25/14 10:59am]

The deal itself wasn't made that long time ago. It takes a while to get such things properly with big companies (obviously, Prince already complained about that to Bream).

the point is - whatever happens at the end - prince is not able to play a game that have rules...
prince could have made 20ten, TRC and other projects much more noteable if he would work more professional with the record companies or distributers... look at andys record or the new one from liv - both are OK albums that could have sold around 50.000 to 100.000 copies worldwide - but without a distribution company: NOTHING NEAR to that happens!
the distribution company i am working with were in talks with kobalt last year for the 3rd eye girl record - the problem was: prince asked for to much money... its simple as that - prince isnt able to found someone in the buisness who is willing to pay that much upfront without knowing in witch way he is willing to do promotion (TV etc.)
at the end - its the same unprofessional way to made the Purple Rain rerelease to a desaster - it could be big - we know it - but it wont
sorry for my bad english

I'm speaking for me [Edited 6/25/14 10:59am] I agree, it would have been much better to release the PR remaster this summer. Why they can't manage to do that is wierd, it doesn't make any sense to wait until fall. The Prince Museum now claims that it will be out in September, not November as been said in another thread here. Welcome 2 The Dawn

There is a plethora of media outlets runnign in depth articles about PR today; no better time than now to have dl'd his new CD and remaster

They missed the 20th and 25th anniversary. Why would WB work on a remaster when there was no cooperation from Prince? Especially if they wanted outtakes, etc. © Bart Van Hemelen

It is such a paradox. Money and control are the most important things to Prince. He loves control just a little more than he loves money but is willing to SELL. THAT. ASS. for cash and he could rake in the BANK if he just let go a little and allowed things to happen. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

We don't have any information on that at this point. Remastering material from old tapes is not the cheapest thing imaginable either, especially if you're going to get real professional for the job. I've understood that they would have also needed Prince's approval for the project and it's an entirely different thing to have him do at least some promotion for the release than just release it in the stores.

Quite honestly, they should have had Purple Rain worked out when they made that initial announcement - it should have been a key thing to say 'Hey, look at what you are going to get from this deal' but instead we got 'Hey, you might get something cool out of this deal. Or something bad. We don't really know - but we have a deal!'.

The remastering was already completed. Still, no word on if any outtakes or B-Sides or Remixes were remastered to match the mastering on the actual album. This does take a little time. September would be a good guess as to when it SHOULD be ready, but if you ever wanted to screw something up, just ask Prince and Warner Bros to get in the same room.

Warner brothers is an injured music label fighting against the tide of technology to stay relevant. They are likely bending over backwards to get the biggest bang out of this reunion. I'd place most, if not all blame on Prince. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Please -- how many of us really thought WB and Prince would be back together by this date?
They are -- you're just not also getting your remaster in time for the big PR anniversary.

Yes,it is another missed opportunity, but this is Prince we're talking about he could have re-teamed with Warners a year ago and had everything ready to be released right now,but he always seems to have other plans.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
He could have use his brain 20 years ago and got a contract involving his back catalogue 20 years ago (like REM did in their deal with a WEA company back then), but instead he was far too focused on having the "biggest contract ever" so he could beat Madonna and Michael Jackson.
I've said this before: we should be on round three of remasters + deluxe editions right now. © Bart Van Hemelen

Oh!? But P can throw down an album every few days. Do a tour in a month from start of communcations to doing a few shows. Why oh why would WB need time in 2014?!
P and WB can screw up just as the P perfume deal of a shile ago can be screwed up. P loses interest, does not (fully) deliver or there is a dispute about perceived lack of promotion, etc. I do hope that WB has serious laywers behind the CONtract to cause some CONtroversy. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

The Deal had probabaly been in the pipeline for the past 12 months or so, but with it only being completed recently it means there will be a wait on Purple Rain Remaster, Warner wouldn't have pressed ahead to do it while in negotiations for the simple fact Prince would have probably came in and wanted to switch bits around, not being happy with images or what ever else. Purple rain is going to be their Key release out of them all so it will be important its done properly, I'm sure fans wouldn't just want a rushed out album? . Purple Rain they can take it as far as they want really, for example, they could release a Digitally remastered Blu-ray of the Movie (This may be one of the things they are waiting for if that's what they are doing) It wouldn't make any sense releasing them at different times. This is purely speculation, they may not do anything with the movie but it would make alot of sense to do so if they are spending alot of money promoting the Remaster anyway. There is a Blu-ray of it out there but it isnt widescreen and its not the best quality. . Just be patient, as long as they get it out between now and next June it lands within the 30th Anniversary

Maybe this new "interview" is again Prince`s way of promotion for his new record...so people know there is -along the PR remaster- a new Prince record ready to be released... I think he could do better, but this is typical Prince thinking:)... For the fans it has become too frustrating and probably for his band 3rdeyegirl, too.... But still i think warner needs the remasters badly, too and they offered him a good deal... So we will finally see the remasters...

Probably not good enough: why is P not focussed anymore? Where is the buzz about remastered outtakes to go in the multi-disc PR set?
I believe it when I see it. And I do hope that they won't disappoint. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Fully agree with you, we have to have a little patience now. The remasters are coming, the contract is signed. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I really don`t know why Prince is not focussed anymore. He seems so lost and without a real plan... Playing big arenas with a one week notice ahead, teasing albums and not releasing them... He did that before but otherwise we got at least a record a year .... But still, i hope

Focus extends over a longer period of time. Else it is just a glance. That is what is lackiong with P. He cannot do projects that take 6 months or so. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.
