So, "Electric Intercourse" is now "Electric". Does this bode well for the remasters? Just got back from the tour opener tonight and Prince stunned the die hards by doing "Electric Intercourse" in full on the piano.
Except, it wasn't "Electric Intercourse", as he has dropped the lyric "Intercourse". Instead, he elongated the word "Electric" twice over.
Pulling it out live now might be a good sign that its on the remaster, but might he have acutally gone ahead and altered it??
Would you rather in remain in the vault than be altered, or are you happy as it comes?

i'll be happy however it comes. but naturally, i would prefer an unaltered version.
however, i gather he still did sing "your techni color climax is at my finger tips" so
if he's censoring himself he's not being very consistent
.
but the fact that he did it live now better mean it's on the PR reissue because that
would be a good way to promote some of it's extra content. however, this is still
prince so let's wait and see. i sure hope we get a WB press release sometime in
the next few days. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps |

Did it sound better? Maybe it's one case where he felt silly singing the word "intercourse" and thought it needed updating for the modern world, instead of censoring it? Not one of my favorite songs of that period though. |

I can't believe that, Prince playing Electric Intercourse now? that's amazing!!!
I think the song still makes perfect sense without the "intercourse" part. In fact I think I'd like it better that way, sounds bit more mysterious and classy
Did he play the standard version or that one dramatically different version from one rehearsal? (The version Where he mumbles "fantasy" in the beginning...) [Edited 5/15/14 18:01pm]

i'm curious now, wish i could hear it already but i just don't think any
version of this song is going to be an instant favorit with many of us, since
we are so used to that old live version now. heck, it's part of our DNA now
after all these years. even a great studio version from that time will take
a bit of getting used to. although i'd gladly take the time out to sit down
with that monster for a day or two. god now i'm really starting to wish he
hasn't tinkered with it and true love lives on lollipops and crisps |

It was a stunning rendition, and sooooo good to hear, but the "Electric" bit just stood out to all those that know the original.
That said, the way he bridged the gap, to a new listener it would have sounded normal. . |

I wonder what 3 syllables he toyed with to replace "intercourse" before he settled on nothing "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide." |

Its hard to remember exactly, as I was just soaking up hearing it. It was basically spot on the the 83 live, but piano only. He still left in all the do you wanna make love. No mention of Auntie Em though. Maybe he left her in Kansas.

Confirms my "Electric Intercourse" prediction!! will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. |

It has to be more suggestive, yet completely explainable to the elders. Electric In & Out. Electric Naughty Buns. Electric Sticky Face. Electric Steamy Duck. I'm so sorry orgers, it's the wine.
I say it's almost a guarantee that it will be on the PR30, and I still highly doubt it will be censored. Intercourse obviously has plenty of non-sexual connotations as well, so it's odd that he's scared to say it.

Just to add my take as said in the concert thread, the way he handled it to me wasn't in the sense of censoring himself but in the sense of improvising a sexier version - he sang the verses in full in an excellent clear loud manner - all the "I will shock u with my lips" and "ur Technicolor climax is at my finger tips" - but he whispered "electric" in the chorus, almost inaudible compared to the verses. This reminded me of when he got the crowd to finger click on the pr tour - it had that quiet intensity to it that to me felt deliberate. It wouldn't surprise me if on another night he does it differently.
I don't think we can say that it will be censored on the pr deluxe version yet. |

That actually sounds really exciting. Especially that he gave the verses and bridge a powerful vocal. Sooo very jealous of you all. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide." |

True. It did sound sexy. And he seemed particularly into it. I think he knew it would be a shocker to pull it out of the bag. Empty Room was a killer too.
He was really getting into What's My Name? as well, but I think his boots were playing him up so he went backstage to change them while ida killed it with her bass. . |

ahhhh, reading all of that drives me crazy honestly. if there is one song i would never ever thought of hearing live... Electric Intercourse oh my..
Well, i really hope now that i hear it too in Amsterdam.. please, prince.
and i honestly think that it's just the live version, his way of changing it a bit. don't really think censoring himself, because if he sings all those other lyrics.. well that is all still the same.
So i guess the original version with all the lyrics and intercourse would be on the remasters, but maybe the song wouldn't even be on there.. who knows.

"I say the first Intercourse, I say the first one"
In terms of his recent censoring, I think the word Intecourse is pretty benign. Why would he not want to use that term and yet still say "climax". As with most things we as fans are probably reading into it way too much.
For all we know what he did in the studio with overdubs and whatnot could have changed what we know of from the rehearsal and live versions that are widely circulating. Hell, it could have been recorded ove since The Beautiful Ones took its place. |
