Just got back from the tour opener tonight and Prince stunned the die hards by doing "Electric Intercourse" in full on the piano.

Except, it wasn't "Electric Intercourse", as he has dropped the lyric "Intercourse". Instead, he elongated the word "Electric" twice over.

Pulling it out live now might be a good sign that its on the remaster, but might he have acutally gone ahead and altered it??

Would you rather in remain in the vault than be altered, or are you happy as it comes?

Considering that most diehards have the shelved version whatever we get now is just gravy. I personally am not hoping for cleaned exact versions of tracks I've had for 20 years already. I'd listen to that for all of two times top then every so often when in the mood. Something new would excite me more.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

As a serious musician and someone who doesn't actively search for bootlegs, I feel the absolute opposite. I personally always hear things in official releases of former boots that I couldn't hear in the crusty boots. Hell, I've heard things in the official vinyl releases that are almost impossible to hear on the official CDs.

The unreleased music is unreleased. I don't consider bootlegs a release. I consider them an inferior caricature of a release good for little except getting the general idea of the song. Some folks are professional fans but casual listeners. I need to hear the DETAILS.

To each his/her own and I'm not hating.

I hope you hear lots of stuff that you haven't been listening to for 20 years already in shitty, murky quality, (cuz even the clearest bootleg is still worse than the blanket-over-the-speakers crap you get from iTunes).

If he still "had it" that deft genius he had back in the day I wouldnt mind him changing shit and making it acceptable to pre-schoolers, but he doesn't. He has totally lost his magic touch. 1999 The New Master? He is musically lazy and tone deaf in his old age to be fucking around with the classics.

There's is lots of boots out there in crystal clear quality that'll blow your socks off ...

True that some of the first bootlegs were very mediocre at best, but since the digital age started (looooong ago) there is a lot of good material, especially for a "serious musician" like yourself.

I love the old man, I do, but he should leave be the music he recorded when he still had it alone.

I hope he enjoys playing that 3rdeye girl stuff that one is going to buy other than out of morbid curiosity. Mess with that stuff all he wants. No body cares.

Heck, re-record the 90's stuff if he wants. Change it anyway he wants, but please leave the good stuff alone. Leave it just as he left it; Not sucking.

I hope the people at Warner Bros have the balls to tell this to his face. Someone has to. And it has nothing to do with lyrics, thats the least of it. 1999 the New Master and his Old Friends 4 Sale from the 90's are crappy versions of great tracks, why fuck with them? If the WB people allow him to ruin his work, the suck at their jobs just as much as Prince does at recording today.

Would you appreciate someone having the "balls to tell you to your face" that what you felt necessary to do to YOUR work was shit? No? So why wish that on a man that has put out a shit load of GOOD music over the last 30 years? What you fail to understand here is the fact that your thinking the original or boot versions are better is simply an opinion.. Prince has to live with what he puts out and if he is only comfortable releasing songs suitable for "preschoolers", well that's his business. I've said it before but allow me to reitterate: It is HIS music, HIS intellectual property, HIS creation.. he can do whatever the hell he wants with it and if you or I don't like it, we are NOT required to buy or support it.

I used to feel the same way you do, until I put myself in his position. I don't want people telling me what to do and I'm not going to do it to him.

of course I would. Any artist would. As an artist you expect it. You put your work out their and criticism is a large part of it. That no one around him has the balls to be honest with an artist is far more concerning. And I would expect record executives with money on the line not to be sycophants because he is a legend. I would expect the record executives to realize what music is beloved of him by not be messed with.

Okay, so we have a bunch of people with differing opinions of what is considered "quality" telling him what to do? I would rather just trust the man and his own vision. At the end of the day, it is Prince that has to be okay with what he creates and gives to his fans..

Is there anything in your past that you'd be embarrassed for people to find out about today? Maybe that's how he feels about some of those lyrics. They don't represent who he is anymore, so if he decides to change them, so be it. I can't imagine being caught up between making my fans happy and being happy with myself.
Do I want the lyrics changed? No. But change isn't always bad and what we already have isn't going anywhere.. so it's really not a big deal.

He is musically lazy and tone deaf in his old age to be fucking around with the classics

HIS classics, in case you'd forgotten. HIS to do with whatever he wants.
I'll ignore the "lazy and tone deaf" because that's just fcking ridiculous. rolleyes

See I don't understand that at all. Why is he censoring himself when there's no reason to? Well all got here because someone had intercourse...and even the bible says nothing is wrong with it if you're married. For all we know he could be singing about a married couple. I don't understand this dude censoring himself when he doesn't have to??!!

If there was bootleg of Kiss & its original title was 'Kiss my Pussy' would it mean that the released version of Kiss [the 1 we know & love] was any less of a song?. Think about it!, Prince is in a different place right now..that is NOT a bad thing!

Ofcourse you have a point. However this is a forum where people discuss just about anything concerning Prince not the least his decisions on what the put out and when. To refrain from that part would leave this site to say the least tame and boring.

The site isn't about HIS this and that ... iy is more about OUR opnion on exactly THAT.

I wouldn't read too much into it, it didn't sound like he was censoring himself, it was just a slightly reworked solo version.

Yes, there are some boots out there that have some clarity, but when it is a clear recording of a track that never received a final mix in the first place (i.e. unfinished), then it still sounds horrible with levels that are all over the place. I'm with steakfinger - I want a lovingly crafted, finished version of the track which is balanced and detailed.

Not sure why many here look sooo excited to have 2014 Jehovah witness version (understand 'censored/altered' version) of an original 1983 track.
For my part, it is really turning me off.
Not interested in getting JW reworks of songs from the 80's.
As far as I'm concerned, he can keep those massacres in his vault. I won't be missing them!
Seriously. That's how I feel.

If not censored (I mean if you consider this version not to be censored version, choose your word), the 2014 reworked version of the song still won't interest me. Original versions please. It is from 1984, not from 2014 for God sake.

Should the track had not been finished in 1983 - or close to a finished version - I don't think he would have played it in a charity show.

True. It did sound sexy. And he seemed particularly into it. I think he knew it would be a shocker to pull it out of the bag. Empty Room was a killer too.

He was really getting into What's My Name? as well, but I think his boots were playing him up so he went backstage to change them while ida killed it with her bass.

What's my name, oh my, completely missed that on the set list, I think I was blinded by EI being there. Would love to hear him do What's My Name with this band, always loved it. Someone better have recorded this show!

I din't realise he cat a work out.... dit pick up on the climax line. I don't think I know the song (I know of it) so it was the only song of the set that i didn't know fully. However it was beautifuly chillingly sexual and had quite an amazing feel/atmospher going on - just like Empty room THAT was a highlight!

What's my name wasn't as minimal as the released version, but had me stuned at it's inclusion.
