Do you mean they wrapped filming, did a company move to LA, and between that time Prince wrote another song, recorded it, submitted it to the director, and they decided to rewrite the film, go over-budget, and recreate a full concert shoot recreating the practical location?

Wouldn't evidence of that be in the credits?

Kcoolmusiq- Have you never watched the PR directors commentary? They discuss filming this scene and how Prince had to sing live (with the backing) to make it more real and connect with the audience... I can't even begin to understand how you could think those people were fake?

I hope not. I like Extraloveable but I can't imagine EI being anything other that what it is. The 83' version is perfect and the new version is great, too, because it's almost the same.
