I'm hoping for some quality blu-ray releases of live shows.
and of course some quality remasters of his old albums.
Nowadays the sound is so much better put on disk, than that what they did in the 80's and 90's
I've listened to Peter Gabriels revisited SO album... WOW, so much warmer but still a crisp sound... awesome!

Yes, at one point it was planned to "bake" the tapes and pull whatever could be salvaged from a lot of them but Prince canceled this at the last minute for fear of music escaping the vault...

I just hope that Prince doesn't fuck with his children. Remasters would be great, but re-loaded versions would be a pain in the butt. AND NO CENSORSHIP!!! If this is well executed, he'll get my money for sure, but I'm afraid that he will fuck this up.
It is virtually guaranteed. I have such little hopes about this that virtually anything that happens will be positive |

if prince takes a cue from the classic bands who have recently been touring around their most classic albums .. he will tour the record and play the bsides and outtakes from that recording ... many other bands have picked their best records and played them top to bottom in order and then thrown in the bsides as the encore .. why cant prince to this? .. oh yeah .. i just remembered the last 20 years .. he will tour this with 3rd eye and ruin all the PR songs by u know .. taking the fucking guitar solo out of purple rain .. (one of the most dumbfucking stupid things I have EVER heard prince do) .. or putting the crowd to sleep with a song called lets go crazy .. its not like he ever played those outtakes or bsides much .. it would be totally fresh to get the rev out on tour and play those songs only for that era .. he could put together the old dirty mind band and do that record etc ... even let the time be the time and the family be the family and perform their classic records on the tour of that year .. it would be prince opportunity to do those tours the RIGHT WAY i am talking to you honky tonk version of "something in the water" during the PR tour ... I would much rather have a 1999 full on robot funk tour with each song bside and outtake perfomed properly than hear a stupid piano medley or .. FUCKIN SAMPLER SET .. he won't .. he can never be that cool again .. he will find a way to ruin it .. i just know it .. let the rain come down
ps .. and how great would the sign crystal ball era tour be with those bsides and crystal ball songs included? it would be SHOCKADELICA good! nope wont happen ..

i know one thing:
The best of prince,Ultimate Prince and The Hits & The b-sides is already out there....
i don't think the average consumer can take ..."3 years...and 4 months..take up 2 albums....ICE CREAM!"....so...i think the vault series should be for the true purple funk connoisseurs ONLY.

Why should anyone care about sales comparisons with MJ?
MJ fans care a great deal about sales and chart positions.
Prince fans care about the music.
As a fan of both i'm just not going to agree at all. Never gave a toss about MJ's sales personally, and i wish dearly that Prince could compete now with the music we're going to get on these remasters. But life is kind of shitty sometimes.
Aren't there 'chart watch' threads for Princes' last two singles on this very forum? Yep, i think there is. |

Thank U Funkyalien.
That article indeed clears up Some questions. So it seems that artists like Prince are more then needed by the record industries , now more than ever. WB just simply can't do much with Prince's artistic work without his collaboration. Prince just simply waited and played the law-game to get what he wanted/deserves and now is helping them out, while he will get ownership and payed at the same time... Clever. "The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves. And wiser people so full of doubts" (Bertrand Russell 1872-1972) |

Realistically
I think if we were ever so lucky to get blu ray/ DVD releases of old concerts we'd be looking at broadcast concerts like:
Syracuse '85 Detroit '86 Maaaybe Sign O the times movie Lovesexy '88 Nude Tour '90
Naturally I know there is pro shot footage of Diamonds & Pearls, Controversy and 1999 tours circulating but I'd be amazed if the original source material was out there still and that Warners etc would go to great lengths in remaster them.
We can only hope, but for the cds aswell, I'd imagine we would get special editions of Purple Rain, 1999 and Sign O the times and maybe the rest reissued and remastered... who knows?
But I'll just wait and see.........and start saving

PRINCE AND WARNER BROS. RECORDS UNVEIL NEW PARTNERSHIP
|
|
|
April 18, 2014 - Prince and Warner Bros. Records today announced a new agreement that will see the release of long-awaited, previously unheard material, while giving the artist ownership of the master recordings of his classic, global hits. At the same time, the deal extends Prince's relationship with Warner Bros. Records, through an exclusive global licensing partnership that covers every album released from 1978 into the nineties. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
For Prince fans worldwide, the new partnership will open a veritable gold mine. The surprise announcement comes just in time for this summer's 30th Anniversary celebrations of the artist's breakthrough album and film, Purple Rain, which were released in 1984. For the first time, Prince will be releasing a digitally re-mastered, deluxe version of this classic album. Other planned projects will follow.
Prince said, "A brand-new studio album is on the way and both Warner Bros Records and Eye are quite pleased with the results of the negotiations and look forward to a fruitful working relationship."
"Everyone at Warner Bros Records is delighted to be working with Prince once again: he is one of the world's biggest stars and a truly unique talent" said Cameron Strang, Chairman & CEO, Warner Bros. Records. "We are also very excited about the release of new and re-mastered music from one of his greatest masterpieces."

They need his cooperation for any unreleased stuff he has physical possession of--they could prevent (I guess) him from releasing the material (if he only gets legal ownership after release), but if they don't have the recordings they can't do anything with them. So there's no bonus material without his help, beyond perhaps extended versions and b-sides that they've already released, and even then he might have the recordings in his physical possession. But to make these things really interesting, they need his help.
Of couse, if we're going to follow any train of thought then these releases could have all been planned prior to the signing of the contract itself or press release. They could already be essentially done or, at the very least, all the tracks could be in WB's possession. They know what it's like to work with Prince... Then, once Prince handed over his signed contract, he regained ownership... |

The article stipulates that the deal implies P getting his whole catalogue back, as in now.
The PR, however, doesn't go into specifics on time frames. He might get ownership back only as each album is remastered and rereleased OR perhaps Prince has already given WB what they need in the way of bonus content, etc... and he regained ownership all at once. We just don't know.
WB would have zero reason to give him back ownership unless they were garranteed an unfettered experience in regarding to the remastering though.

If the Purple Rain remastered songs are still edited I'm not gonna buy it. If he releases Dream Factory I'll be first in line. No way he's going to release Wonderful Ass under any circumstances because he's still in that cult. A remastered Camille and Black Album won't happen either. |

I don't know what to make of this. On the one hand, it would be fantastic to have Prince's catalog including outtakes in pristine form. On the other hand, fans have been led to believe other exciting projects have been in the pipeline only to never materialize. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018!
