You are very nice and behave like the copyright cartel would want you to.

You torture yourself, or at least deprive yourself from works by talented people that deserve to be heard. You can compensate these people in many ways. Think!

You missed out on an important phase in your life.

And you even appear proud to write about that.

Please read my other replies in this thread and think about them for a while.

Yes I am critical of fans who buy or download bootlegs.

Here is my personal history of buying bootlegs.

When Lovesexy was released the NYTimes ran a story

comparing it with copy of the black album. First I ever

heard of the music. Months later I was in St. Marks place

in NY and a vendor was selling cassettes for $10. I bought one.

Later that year I actively looked for bootlegs and spent

about $75 on copies. All were vinyl. There were no bootleg

cds at that point. They were total shit and I decided then

I would never waste my $ on bootlegs again. I have never

downloaded bootlegs. Never.

The bootlegs I bought were prior to Prince expressing his

displeasure with the practice. I respect his desires and don't

participate in downloading.

Because I don't download I have never heard wonderful ass,

moonbeam levels, possessed, big tree or any of the numerous

songs many Prince fans are familiar with.

so you had no idea that the artist would no be cool with you buying unauthorized recordings? Would you say at that point that your parents didnt teach you respect?

Do you feel better now?

I know you have been waiting since yesterday to say that.

Maybe I just look at it differently than you do.

I'm an artist and have had people pick pictures I've thrown in

the trash take them home and frame them and hang them

in their house. When I say I object to that they say tough shit

you thru it out. And thats the same attitude I see here.

Am I happy I haven't heard these unreleased songs. No.

But I don't feel my life is incomplete in any way.

And the only reason I replied at all was because Stymie was just

itching to zing me.

I think the argument about owning bootlegs will go on forever, I think there isn't any point in telling someone they've made a grave decision by not owning some or all boots when they've made a conscious decision not too and vice versa. We need to talk about the case in hand and how it would affect those fans who are implicated.

He seriously should put the bootlegs in the CDs and sell them to fans on his site or at least take them to Wal Mart or something...he could easily make profit than seek a million from broke folks online. typing

Shoot, Tyler Perry made his first $$ selling dvds of his plays at walmart. Princey has plenty of potential revenue streams if he uses that hard head of his. lol

Bless his ornery little heart.

Imagine how ornery some of his fans would get for selling his merch with the help of slave wages.

His fans complain about how crazy he is, not realizing they're exposing their own lunacy as they do it....lol.

Prince released a lot of music through Warner Bros. Typically the track listing for an album will change a few times before it's released. Songs get replaced, altered, etc. So Warner Bros potentally has some previously unrleased prince music lying around. If they decided to post that content on their web site for fans to download without Prince's permission, would it be okay for Prince to sue Warner Bros?

IMAX has a fully edited Prince concert movie that was never released. If they posted that on their web site for fans to download without Prince's permission, would it be okay for him to sue IMAX?

If the answer is yes to either of those, what exactly is different about this?

You are forgetting one thing: Prince made all the changes you mention before handing over the master tapes. WB only has the finished product, not the outtakes.

it's 100% certain that Prince submitted material to WB that never got released.

Lawd I hate this. Just when I'm gaining interest again, due to the fabulous quality of the recent live performances.

What an asshole.

If it weren't for the "Ridiculously Deluxe Editions", how would one keep the flame ?

Crystal Ball was a pitiful attempt (what the heck is wrong with you mixing all kind of different eras ?), and that, just an attempt. Where is the promised and long long due official release of Dream Factory ?

What's funny is that P has bootleg tapes of James Brown, Little Richard and Sly and the Family Stone sitting in his crib given to him by MJ and morality is a hot button issue concerning unreleased recordings and live shows.

hmmm. how do artists actually FEEL when their stuff is ripped off??????

The difference here is that someone stole a work in progress from Tarantino that he was planning to finish and release. Prince seems to have no plan to release the bootlegs the sites were sharing.

Late to the party on this one and full of mixed feellings BUT... you are completely WRONG on this assumption. Prince has, from the beginning of his career, recorded regularly and put tracks in the Vault. He has then regularly pulled tracks out of the vault when putting together new albums. In fact there are very few albums that have only contained newly written material (Lovesexy for most part and TRC were totally new). All his albums have otherwise included at least one or more songs recorded at a previous time. So you cannot say he has no plan to release the bootlegged tracks. Prince clearly wants to "keep his poweder dry" so he can pull any track out at any time without everyone moaning that he is just using old music. If we didn't know the track we would assume it was new!

'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

You said goodbye to those materials by throwing them in the trash.

If you do not want the people to take your trash home you should handle it more properly.

I.e.: destroy it.

And thats the same attitude I see here.

And that is the same attitude that I see from you.

Prince allows stuff to leak so it is bootlegged.

Prince does not do proper live releases (one 2cd per tour?) so that niche is filled.

Am I happy I haven't heard these unreleased songs.

How well would your happiness compare to the joy and extacy from the hunderds of songs?

But I don't feel my life is incomplete in any way.

I could write: You can't compare as you do not know what you compare against.

But of course you might know better.

I simply know that in the previous few decades those songs mattered to me.

Could be, but that would mean he has plan, sorta.

And that ain't true.

The album might be announced early february, and the shows might be a promo-like tour, but until it 's in my sweaty palms I won't hold my breath.

to those of you who agree with Prince's anti-bootleg stance...let's see how sincere you are lol

1) Take all of the Prince bootlegs that YOU own and send them to Prince

2) Enclose a note saying you're really sorry for having these bootlegs

3) Give Prince the name of the bootlegger(s) you purchased (or somehow "obtained") them from,so that he can sue these people, too

As I said earlier, you can't have it both ways. You can't condemn bootleggers, while YOU have an entire collection of Prince bootlegs.A few years ago, most of us were losing our minds when the 1984 First Avenue Birthday show appeared, sounding clearer and better than ever.Don't lie....you know damn well that YOU all downloaded it lol You can't do stuff like that, then turn around and be a hypocrite, lol.

There's not really much to complain about IMO since this is nothing but entertainment that we're talking about...Prince is an entertainer.

Crazy to me is drag racing up and down the street, going in and out of jail, posting sex tapes online, wearing meat dresses or any number of over the top behavior that gets tabloid attention.

Prince hasn't done anything in this case that people should be calling crazy...he just ornery. lol
