Come, at 11 minutes 13 seconds, is too long. It would have been a better start, to the album of the same name, had it been half the length.

I also wouldn't have followed it up with Space, as the vibe is too similar. The album has some decent stuff on it, but it takes nearly 20 minutes to get warmed up.

Come is beyond a mere song. It is a journey. A masterpiece of musical, sexual n spiritual exploration and realisation...and climax.

Come is TOO SHORT if anything..just like Kingbad lol

The Last December..."In the name of the father, in the name of the sun. We need to come together, come together as one" x 10 at the end.

He found a good melody/lyric in that song and then beat me over the head with it until familiarity bred contempt.

I think a big factor is whether it's a studio cut or live.

The full album version of Love Bizarre annoys me.... but the full version on Romance 1600 Live is amazing..... in fact I can't really listen to the studio after hearing that.

It goes places, adds new parts. And SHeila took it even further with her version of that arrangement which she still uses to this day.

What do you mean?

Sheila E, the Time, were able to rearrange songs for live shows. Prince didn't come up with every change...

That live arrangement of the PRINCE penned "Love Bizzare" on the Romance 1600 Live vhs was Prince's creation! Not Sheila's. Eye could give credit too "The Revolution" also, because at the closing of Sheila's Romance 1600 live tour show's. Prince brought the full Xtended revamped Revolution on stage for a sexy funked out version of "Love Bizarre". Then he closed it out, with the rest of his hits. Eye was in attendance!!! Sheila then took what she was taught(from Prince) and added to her per4mances....She was a sponge.....

Crystal Ball is great! You buggin', bruh. disbelief

Agreed!

I think Crystal Ball is a prime example of a song that has been perfectly crafted to last it's running time

I know! Absolutely blasphemous! I can't believe people are listing songs from the 1999 album! Those long jams could go on for days and I wouldn't complain!

I definitely agree that there are a few on Emancipation that go on a bit long. "Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother/Wife" and "Sleep Around" are the first that comes to mind. I also agree with "Hypnoparadise". And I'd also throw in "Dig U Better Dead", 'cos even at 4mins it's always a skipper for me.

I also know I'm going to get stoned for this one, but I've always felt "I'm Yours" went on too long with the guitar wankery. But I'll forgive him, given that he was just a pup.

I'm not listening to it at the moment, but my feeling much of the time while I am is that the Emancipation album has several songs that suffer from unnecessary lengthening--where the point isn't the song's own needs, but a desire to fill out the 60 minute goal with the same number of tracks per disk. Songs end, then begin again--just because of that arbitrary goal. There are some where the extensions work, but the routine-ness of the technique (on that album) gets to me. It's not every track, obviously, but it happens enough that it stands out if you listen to the whole album at once.

I really dont know why people are here anymore. They dont seem to like anything Prince does anymore. Its no wonder he doesnt release much music anymore with the fans he has. The good new for the people here is that he has seemed to listen as he barely releases a song now over 3:30 so I guess you all are happy. I LOVE the long jams the best actually.

It shouldn't even have a start.

So funny...I absolutely adore this song, and for me it just builds and builds. If I ever want to sing loud enough in the shower to piss off my neighbors, this is the track I play.

While I can understand this sentiment, I vehemently disagree. This is one of my favorite extended jams of his...

I was going to say "none", but you do have a certain point about sleep around being too long. Like others have said, fitting songs into that 60 minute each concept caused some unnecessary lengthening. Similar issue exists on NEWS with all the tracks being the same length. Other than those two albums, there's nothing at all that I would want to see cut. Most of the songs that I really like could probably go on longer so there would be even more to groove to. And if I really don't like a song, I'll skip it or not put it on so the length doesn't matter that much.

Okay, I wasn't really serious with that one. I could have seen both getting trimmed a bit for some additional space for one more song to be included on the album though. The outro with the strings on "Purple Rain" is a bit unnecessary and I've always preferred the edits of "When Doves Cry". Of course, the album is perfect the way it is in the end.
