During the name-change years, I respectfully used the symbol, avoiding saying Prince when it was not appropriate and restricting its use only to those times when I was referring to Prince-era events and material (or to those later things the man himself had decided, for whatever reasons, to designate as "Prince"). However, I stopped using it when the man himself indicated that he was, once again, to be referred to as Prince. I've since learned (again from the man himself) that "brothers" never stopped calling him Prince anyway--but that's beside the point. Clearly, he ain't the symbol anymore, and you're not being rude to us by using it, but you are being disrespectful to the man you constantly berate others for not respecting.
