It's obvious that Prince wants 2 draw attention 2 himself and this song unfortunately it will end up with bad publicity and that's not good when ur about 2 release a new album in the next few months. Prince is still entitled 2 his own opinion about homosexuality but he should be careful about touching the subject in his lyrics since it appears that he with this song is offending lesbians Welcome 2 The Dawn

That's the way I read it. It's possible. Though I usually associate the term "beard" with a woman who makes a gay man look straight. I'm more offended by the "dirty world" comment. My sister is a lesbian and there's nothing dirty about the love she has for her fiancée, though being offended by that interpretation of the lyric kind of goes without saying. At least there's nothing else redeeming about the track so that I don't have to feel conflicted about liking it. I feel like every time Prince drops something new, it is an opportunity to remind music listeners why he's so revered. And then he drops Da Bourgeoisie. "That's when stars collide. When there's space for what u want, and ur heart is open wide."

But he is not entitled to be disrespectful. Imagine similar lyrics about race, imagine someone saying 'I saw kissing a black/white/Jewish (or any other) man' and then making a sound of disgust...

I thought he was spitting in disgust because his lover, cheated on him with another person: regardless of gender. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

It's like something is missing...his soul (inner feelings) is gone. When Prince use to sing it made me happy /I actually felt something. With each new song he releases that element is missing. It's like he's just releasing it just to shut his fans up-when he sings he's not even into it Yes he sold his Soul to religion and Jehovah - all is lost!

If the song was about Prince's GF cheating with another man the lyrics would be deemed?? What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

A metaphor? Just a thought. Now I just listened to it. Don't know what the big deal is - it's just a toss off ditty that might have taken him 30 minutes tops. Like "Purple and Gold" - just a bit of fun for him. Neither songs are/were his statement song of the year or something. People on both sides of the aisle are overreacting - those who now hate him, and those who have this "song" on repeat. As for the lyrics, it's kind of rambling, but I'm convinced now it's a metaphor. In high school, I had to write a "reflective essay" on cultural constructs or institutions (can't remember exactly), and I wrote more of a "story" titled "The Monolith" about a dude who intimidates me, the mere toss of his hair a slap in the face, unknowable, twisting my arm, abusing me. It was not about a real dude. The monolith = abusive dude (= the dominant culture). So I tend to hear his song as analogous to that. Anyway, whatever - people will hear what they want to hear, I guess.

Think he's dropped a ball. 'dirty world' could be given as bad wording but when you ally that to 'bearded lady' I think Houston knows it's got a problem. But, will all forgive him as soon as some more candy drops. You know...remember Le Petit Prince-gate or Serpan-gate? This seems worse as it's neither personal or copyright related...kinda like Morrissey when he paraded around with the Union Jack and espoused the right wing.
Will do more thinking and listening to the tune but the immediate feel ain't too nice. Best case scenario is just lazy writing and not thinking through how the listener is going to receive his meaning or a fun demo that should never have been released with these lyrics. When I hear bearded lady I think of a bearded lady at a carnival/freak show. So a bearded lady is a freak. Like a sexual freak.
