First ask yourself why is he attacking them?
Dirty world? Nothing like you ever lasts for eternity? Bearded Lady? spiting in disgust at her kiss?
Prince has used Lesbian imagery thoughout his career from Wendy & Lisa to the tongue in cheek Diamonds & Pearl lesbian imagery and now he want's to get all judgmental. Class piece of funk as an instrumental bigoted douchey lyrics

Prince is usually at his funniest when he's being bitter and green-eyed, alas not on this occasion.

. I have no problem with his story of being dissed by a Woman for another Woman, but these lyrics are just terrible... I don't think I've ever said that about P. I can dig simplicity when used creatively and/or intentionally, but these lyrics feel like jumbled combined lines thrown together... confused, with no cohesion. . Sorry, P. I usually champion your ideas as songs, and feel what you say/sing/play, but lately you just seem bored... or are you intentionally lowering everyone's expectations before releasing something you actually believe in?

Enjoy the FUNK.....So basically only say something as long as it's positive? Aren't we allowed to post our opinions on it? Not everyone thinks his shit don't stink unlike you. So Prince is allowed to have free speech but we can't? She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

"Da Bourgeoisie" is the title of the new song, not Ray Charles, Bearded Lady or anything else prejudicial.

surely not his best lyrics but i mean let's be real, after all the songs he's ever recorded, the river of excellent lyrics is probably running dry.
and on twitter, he says and i quote: (Da Bourgeoisie is the title of the new song, not ray charles, bearded lady or anything else prejudicial).
despite all the nonsense, i like the song.

He may not be attacking any lesbians in the song but it seems he IS attacking a woman here... Perhaps the same woman he was attacking in "Ain't Gonna Miss U"? That song also had some very personal lyrics! But hey...both are funky songs

I'm talking about Prince. Let's see if I can make it a bit easier for you to understand... 'Kiss' has simplistic lyrics that work. 'Dance 4 Me' and 'Ol' School Company' have simplistic lyrics that work. 'DMSR' has simplistic lyrics that work. . Part of Prince's lyrical mastery is that he can be either complex or simple. He not only influenced me musically, but lyrically as well. "He's a musician's musician..."

. Dude, I used to be on your side here. I, like you, didn't like all of the negativity on this site. I battled with the 'Rainbow Children'/'Planet Earth' haters. . You should choose your battles a bit more carefully... or not. . Peace. . [Edited 11/18/13 7:59am] "He's a musician's musician..."

So a woman who is with another woman is a "bearded lady" who's apart of a "dirty world?" What an ugly thing to say, not to mention homophobic. At least he can blame his Bambi lyrics on being young and naive. There's no excuse for someone in their 50's.

I guess it could be about a gay lover who after an affair with Prince goes back to being straight The wooh is on the one!

I will ignore the obviously terrible lyrics. Let's focus on the song. It's really rough. It lacks anything resembling a hook or a chorus. All it is is a groove that gets boring after a few measures. I wish Prince would remember how to write actual SONGS not just tired funk grooves and "jams."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It sounds like a demo. The lyrics are in free association form. The off the cuff adlibs is enough for me to believe it's a jam. For what it is, there's some funny lines and the G Major bridge is the best Bootsy Collins impression I've heard of Prince. 3121 #1 THIS YEAR

Lyrics are usually the last thing i pay attention to when it comes to funk... but i get where your coming from.. there's a couple lines that seem out of place and sometimes leave room for interpretation.. (which i don't mind personnally..) [Edited 11/18/13 9:34am]

People pointing out the negative lesbian jabs have a point...The word "dirty" is the issue....
But as far as folks saying that this a horrible lyrical job, needs to get a clue...
This is a funk jam people...It's obvious that Prince was going for a humorous Bootsy like workout...
And yeah, the "dirty" knock aside there are some funny ass lines here....
I never thought I'd see the day when Prince fans lacked a sense of humor...
But other than that...Yeah, I can understand the more reasonable gripes...
