Studio album, a BIG 2013 versus a SMALL ? A new studio album: only 4 and a half months are left.. DO you really like the songs - so far - in 2013.. yes / no.. Prince 4Ever.

I'm not expecting a big end to the year but I'd be very happy with an album. I've liked pretty much everything released so far except for Live Out Loud and Aint Gonna Miss U When You're Gone. RIP

A lot of things have already happened this year, so some will say this is a big Prince year with concerts and new music. Quite a lot of songs released this year I really like so I'm wishing we also get an album. It's about time for a real album...there gotta be a reason for the Kobalt partnership

My hopes are rather small at the moment. I just hope he releases a physical album. Even if it's a mediocre one. I wish he stopped all the downloading single tracks nonsense. It just shows how directionless he is as an artist now.

No. For a year to be "big" it would need to have a hit single, an album and a tour. None of that has really happened. There've been new songs, but reviews are mixed. No hit single. There has been some limited touring, which pleased the folks who were there, but really...overpriced small club gigs. That ain't enough. So no, so far 2013 is not "big". But contrary to some folks here, I don't mind.

When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

The only albums I've heard discussed so far are The 3rd Eye Girl project, "Plectrum Electrum" and Andy Allo's "Superconductor Reloaded". Prince said he's making jams and had held to that so far and as you pointed out there are only 4 more months in the year. Also we haven't had an album since 20Ten. That's over 3 years ago so why is 2013 all of a sudden destined to see a new CD. If one comes out then great but it doesn't seem likely. Fixurlifeup is probably on the 3EG project. Prince has been releasing "Prince" tracks thru the website as randoms jams seemingly not intended for a project. I like everything put out this year except LOL which I believe was going to be on Plectrum Electrum but that album had changed a bit and will probably just be s rock type thing with the girls. I think his own album will be more funky pop. She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

To make it a BIG 2013 for me Prince should
-release a studio album (not just in mp3 or wav format but also on CD, Vinyl etc.)
-make these livestreams what they should be (show streams more frequently and do some pay-per view streams from direct live shows)
-get a proper homepage with more downloadable music maybe from concerts and demo songs etc, a shop to buy merchandise and a proper news section with frequent updates and with a tour section also, maybe where we can buy tickets (with preferred tickets like golden circle) etc.

I am fine with what we got so far BUT it wouldn´t make this year any "bigger" than other years when it comes to Prince & his music...

I wish I could be so sure. But if he doesn't see it as a profitable move, he won't do it...

Not worried, certain he didn't create the deal with Kobalt for nothing. This year or next its all good.
This year feels like a turning point. To think that some considered him OVA about this time last year. What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

HonestMan13, I agree with all of your responses. And, to go further on my own, this has been one of my favorite years, making 2013, along with 2004 and 2009, outstanding years. But just by sheer productivity 2013 is one of my favorites, and I will go so far as saying that it has reminded me a great deal of the Eighties with new songs every other month, live streams, and an excellent mini-tour. 2013 has been a big year, and with the release of "Groovy Potential," another very good song, I am looking forward to how this year continues and ends! I’m a grown man who isn’t looking for art to change how I see or understand the world. All I want is some funk, some rock, and some soul with a few lyrics that make me think, “That’s a nice way of putting it,” and 2013 has given me all of this. This has been a damn good year.

I just want a physical cd. I dont and wont do the download thing so I up to this point dont have any of the new songs he has put out so for me it has not been a big year. Actually it looks like my days as a fan may be over as he seems to be doing everything as download or online now. I am not and dont even try to watch those lvestreams or whatever it is. I am "Still Waiting" for a cd. I agree with the post earlier that even if it is mediocre or sucks just release something on cd or dvd

true, the 3RdEyeGirl project didn't seem like it was going to be that interesting to start out, being mostly instrumental and prince just on 2 songs with vocals. but since the direction of the album has changed, and judging from the songs prince is still releasing as 'solo' prince songs, i think he's stocking up some of his better material to be released as a Prince & 3rdEyeGirl album later on this year (tracks like The Breakdown, Big City and perhaps a few of those better and more memorable instrumentals he's done in concert lately). . i like his solo tracks this year well enough. they're not earth shattering but he managed to release mainly tracks that i like so far. . Screwdriver Rock & Roll Love Affair Same Page, Different Book Breakfast Can Wait Extralovealble Groovy Potential Ain't Gon' Miss U When Ur Gone Boyfriend That Girl Thang . i have to admit to not liking "That Girl Thang", but even that has it's moments and the fact that it was recorded and released in 1 day is kinda cool back info on the track. . then there are also the tracks, that i personally think made up the early version of what was going to be "Plectrum Electrum", which we then got pretty much for free with the live streams: . Midnite Blues Hidden Colours Octopus Heart Menstrual Cycle Moondrop . plus all the other stuff from the live feeds like the jams on "sex machine" and "brown skin" and "toe jam" etc which would flesh those tracks above out to a nice little album kinda like xpectation or news. . so all in all, we've already got about 2 albums worth of material, give or take a few months from now, no doubt we'll have a couple more tracks to add to those 2 'projects'. . and then there's gonna be that Prince & 3rdEyeGirl or 3RdEyeGirl & Prince cd coming later this year, which i'm starting to think better of with each passing week since they just keep recording stuff and changing the album as they go, which means it's not another rush job. . also, 1 or 2 duets with prince on andy's Superconductor Reloaded, well, we'll have to wait and see if it's released or not, but i liked "what it feels like". . yup, I think 2013 is a pretty big year, regardless of what we think about the quality of the music or if we love or hate the songs. fact is that loads of stuff popped up all of the time since early this year and lots of things happened in the meantime that i would never have expected to see. like a live stream of 20 minutes, live from Paisley Park. or Prince on twitter

It's funny that Prince, who was so against the internet not so long ago, now makes his work available only online. That's not the case of ANY of the artists I follow, even the ones that are more independent and less popular.

How many artists do you know well into their 50's have hit singles? Hit singles are manufactured by corporate entities and are left for young kids making horrible pop songs. The days of hit singles has changed drastically. Your assessment is both ignorant and wrong. Anyone who can sell out an entire tour with a new band and new sound at $150 a ticket has had a very strong year.

This. People are bitching about the delay, but the fact that they keep on working suggests that he's actually taking his time with this one, waiting until he's got enough solid material to put it out, rather than just the next 10 songs.

Those West Coast gigs at $250 a ticket didn't all sell out. And those were small venues. That's why I called them overpriced club gigs. A real tour should be longer and reach more cities. Don't get me wrong, the guy can do what he wants. But to me this year is not"big". And with only 4 months left to go, I don't think that is going to change.
