i agree. i would love these tracklists to be true. only a few songs that we've

heard in live settings or demo versions and the rest completely unheard of

before. that's a great listening experience.

plus all the other good stuff: the breakdown, the 3rdEyeGirl version

of 2Y2D (which sounded great live). big city, which sounded like it's

a kicking tune.

the doc was talking about 2 albums tonight. he started out by

saying that it wasn't sure or anything but that it was just hypothetical. .

but later he just kept talking about "the NPG album" and "the 3EG album".

he also mentioned having prince playing some of the tunes to him in his car,

driving around.

all pretty good and exciting stuff. until the same questions were asked again

"which album would you like to have first?" (like in the past "what would you

like" blabla) and another discussion about how much money an album should

be making, how high ticket prices are (they seem to be so high because other

people charge high prices too).

it turned into the same circular discussion that it always ends up being.

it seems that if you want to follow the news and get the latest, you also have

to sit through these tired old games every time. how much are you willing to

pay, why is everyone steeling music, it's so unfair, what would you want him

to release? we've heard crazy great stuff that is unlike anything he's done

before, but are you ready for it?

to be honest, i just logged off the stream, i couldn't take it anymore.

i'm a grown man, sitting here with my credit card in hand, ready to buy

any and everything prince releases in a heartbeat. but please, don't treat me

like a 12 year old.

it's never "this is what we have, this is what's coming". it's always first a hint,

then more hints, then a tiny bit of info, and then all of a sudden it appears that

nothing is really worked out yet, everything can change, and basically, the most

important thing is: how do we make sure prince gets his money and his stuff in

the headlines. . well geez, i'm just the customer who's willing to pay for it, you

do the marketing strategy. how is everyone else doing it?

now the doc said he and we would love remasters with extra stuff but something

about it not being the right kind of climate right now (or: people still download

illegally so remasters won't make enough cash). sigh. . that's the last time i've

checked into any of those streams or other promotional tools employed by prince

because in effect, they drain every ounce of fun from a release. it's better to come

here and just select what you want to know from whatever threads seem appealing.

indeed. the people who are watching that stream are the same

hardcore people who have been around for the whole ride, from

the firts websites up to and including lotusflower. these people

all paid for his music. i know i did. and i will continue to do so.

what, we're supposed to pay for his albums and also come up

with some brilliant marketing strategy whereby prince gets his

new albums all over the media and the radio without paying a

dollar for airtime?

there's a little something called "goodwill" and prince just kind

of alienated a lot of people over the years, you know i'm

sure that's a factor, not just illegal downloading. because his

fans are quite loyal. they just got pissed off enough down the

road somewhere to either not care about him anymore or to

not want to pay for his music since they felt cheated somehow.
