about janelle's record I just read this:
But for all the irrefutable evidence of Monae being within a fingertip of becoming a Beyonce-rivalling, stadium-packing superstar anytime she wants to, The Electric Lady doubles down on her eccentricities rather than lurching further towards the mainstream, creating a glorious, unwieldy opus of futuristic-retro-funk-soul-R&B-pop.
this is what I love the most about her : not givin a fuck about what's popular at the moment and doing the records she wants to do..my dream would have been that she could rival Beyonce doing the great music that she does but apparently it's too much for the masses in 2013... I really hope Janelle won't never put a Robin Thicke move on us...I'm kinda scared about this to be honest.. because I guess she is kinda frustrated about being outselled by people with half of her talent, creativity and all in music every time she put out an album music critics go crazy over her..this time the public was a little more awakened but not like it should be for a record like that...

Just a heads up, Janelle is playing UK BBC2 tonight at 10pm on the 'Later Live - With Jools Holland' show.
The Pixies are playing too, so I'm definitely going to watch. "I'm much too hot to be cool"

I haven't trawled through the nine pages of comments to see if anyone else has said this before - Prince's singing takes this song to another level. To me this exemplifies the difference between good and great. Overall I find Janelle is good but her voice and her sound needs time to getting used to. It doesn't have me hooked like some other new musicians I found. But I like this song a lot and wait for Prince's segment. It blows me away. ...every night another symphony...

I saw her singing queen and she sounded really great..some people on twitter were thinking she was singing in playback since she sounded exactly like on the record... she really is a great live performer...

her voice made me fall in love with her the first time I heard it..she has such an angelic voice but also strong and high and versatile..

This track reminds me of his duet with Madonna in "Lovesong"....It's kind of brooding and almost menacing, which I like. Also, this question has probably been answeeed but who is the other male singer in this song because it ain't Prince....????

just saw this thread. i LOVE this track!!! i play it at least twice in the every time i listen to the CD. prince sounds great!

This has been discussed quite a bit in this thread... I brought it up, and still think there's another male's voice in there. "He's a musician's musician..."

there isn't another man it's always prince but with a different "effect"on his voice in some parts for example in the fadeout..but for me is clear it's him by the way.. [Edited 9/27/13 15:34pm]

I disagree...it's not Prince's vocals throughout the song. There is another male voice used that sounds kind of like P... I think they got all they could from P and improvised the rest of the song with another male voice. Most people wont know the difference but discriminating ears know the difference.... The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I have usually an ear that recognize EVERY voice around and I hear Prince in all the track..and sometimes maybe other background vocals added from her people..but in the chorus with her it's still him there..and also in the fadeout, in the initial "love"where do you say it's not him? plus I don't think they would use another voice that sounds like someone in a song with the original singer guesting on it [Edited 9/29/13 16:55pm] [Edited 9/29/13 16:57pm]

There is no other voice on this track. What is wrong with some of you?

yes that's what I mean when I said some backing added but they are basically unhearable..I know very well also both roman and nate's voices and what we always hear prominent in the song with her is Prince..it's so clear it's him in the chorus and all..some of you were saying like prince was only in second verse while it's him prominent all over the song , sure not another man..the other 2 are very very in the backgrounds... roman, nate and chuck lightening are also credited for background vocals on primetime with miguel..exactly like they are credited with prince on givin' them what they love..but what U hear prominent on both songs even in the background are miguel on primetime and prince on what they love.. indeed nate and chuck are also in the backgrounds of the electric lady with solange..they are basically in every song but would you say you hear their voices on that? they are basically unhearable...the background vocals leader is sure solange..like Prince is in the background vocals of what they love and miguel on primetime..

After Daft Punk, Robin Thicke and hits from Bastill, Stromae, Tom Odell and a few othersTHIS one makes the end of 2013 beautiful!!!This one is stuck in my head, I love the vocals and Prince sounds great...better than 3rdeyegirl stuff! Love4oneanother

I stand corrected as they are listed in the liner notes however, after listening to the song again with headphones on you can barely hear them on the track. The most prominet vocals are Prince and Janelle. I cannot understand why some of you are trying to take the vocal credit away from Prince. Is the song being promoted and listed as a duet between Janelle and the background singers? Since when does anyone care about the background singers? Some of you need to get off of the board and talk to other fans as no other Prince would care about the background signers. This board is off the chain with silly shit like this.

This bullshit right here. WTF does they got all they could out him even mean. His vocals make the song and duet work. You do not need discriminating ears you just need to have ears to know this.

I think they got all they could from P and improvised the rest of the song with another male voice

As the first person to notice this, let me at least explain where I'm coming from. It's my life, my love and my job to hear things like this... as an audio engineer, musician, and producer. I listen to every instrument and every voice... I've always been that way, and always will be.
Peace. ~G "He's a musician's musician..."
