They r great together on stage! I saw them per4rm together at the 21 nite shows in Cali a few years ago. She is a ball of energy! Even though a lot of people didn't seem to get her in the audience...

I really wished I could go to the iTunes concert of Chic and Janelle.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Wow..

What an AMAZING Album, the duet with P is a good track not the best on the album for me. He should allow himself to be produced more often razz

I can't choose a favorite track there are too many good tracks: give them what they love, electric lady, we were rock and roll, look into my eyes, ghetto woman, victory, dorothy dandridge eyes, sally ride, what an experience...this album is MAJOR frankly it hasn't a weak song..

I've just had a better listening, and I do like it, although it still sounds like another male voice in the backup vocals (on the word "love").

I dig the sparse instrumentation, the taseful use of reverb, and the mix.

Prince's lead vocal is pretty damn cool, and that's surely him doing the vocal effects along with the "BOOM" on either the 2 or 4.

Good song, brilliant album. And to whoever was saying otherwise, I think it is Prince singing backing vocals throughout the song, could be wrong though. biggrin

@BobGeorge - I was blasting this song in my car radio on the way to work and I think I got a few more of the lyrics! (New additions in green)

P.S. I have already pre-orded the whole CD.

[Janelle]

I am sharper than a razor
Eyes made of lazers
Bolder than the truth
They want me locked up in the system
Cuz im on a mission
Blame it on my youth

Too long ibeen out here on my own
Now im 'bout to bring it home
Like a rolling stone
I aint never been afraid to die
Look a man in the eye

[Chorus j/p]
I came to give ya what you love
Oooh its time to give you what you love
Imma give you what you love
Give ya what you love

[Prince]
I am sharper than a switchblade
First and last of what God made
And that's the truth
(Bud? But,)man, keep on tryin' hold me back
While another chickenhead come home to roost
Too strong, try to do me wrong
And the last one standing __ will order
And command
you to dance...dance

(J)

Tell your preacher and your teacher

Imma give you what you love

Chorus

[Janelle]
I said, uh, take your time, take what you love
Baby just enough, but never too much
Baby take your time, take what you love
And when that baby cry, you better look at that (?) baby
Take your time, take what you love
????? Baby, just enough, but never too much

Baby, take your time, (?? when ya give me some love)

Won't you gimmie what you love

Gonna give you some love

Nifty horn/guitar break

[janelle]
Two times (knives?) (??? ______ in the building, tall (?) and concealing
_____ ??? wearing fancy ____ (???things??)

(Chopped up?)___ in the night (_________???)
When they walked in the room, We didn't know what to do
One looked at me and i looked back
She said, "can you tell where the party's at
She followed me back to the lobby
Yeah, she was lookin' @ me with (for?) some undercover love
????? _________ Oh, we didn't know what to do

Tell me where the party at.

I just assumed that it's Prince on the guitar.

Am I right? I didn't even consider that it's not him.

Thanks, cindymay, but I've listening to Prince for many years, and I'm an ear-trained musician. I could be wrong, of course, but I swear I hear a different male voice on the back ground vox, on the word "love". Could be Prince and another male, or Prince using his voice quite differently, as it's the voice itself that sounds unlike Prince.

Anyone hearing P elsewhere on the record? Also, is it just me but on the last verse of this song featuring Prince, I always hear Prince on the first words but then it morphs into Janelle singing. Either a clever trick or my old age.

no problem wink ..I know his voice too..it's prince with a robotic effect on his voice even in the final words that he sings alone you can hear him clearly

Janelle said Prince was very supportive during the entire process of the creation of the electric lady...when she was insecure about something he was always there to supports her ;-)she said (and I was pretty shocked to read this because she is usually a very very private person) that it was a very vulnerable moment for her, she had just broke up with her boyfriend before going in the studio for the electric lady..and she said this album is really personal..imo you can really see janelle's heart in this project and her opinions about a lot of topics, religion, gay rights, sexism, you can see her being a passionate lover but not a very good girlfriend apparently smile and also a little biography of herself in ghetto woman with her mom reference in the rap part...
