I love that song.

Let me tell you - it's a VERY hard song to play acoustically and sing in such a way as to convey the groove from the released version.

Believe me, I've been trying to get the same vibe for awhile and really haven't had much luck. I can play the song very well, but I'm just not sure I can do it in a way that's worth performing in front of a crowd.

To me, that's the mark of an excellent song; at least, from a full-band perspective vs. acoustic.

I don't know which extended version I have....its the one that is dancey (not the cluby Lewis one or the original rocky one) with a lot of guitar fills. For me I think it's one of the best things he's done for a long while. I've been suprised there hasn't been more of a positive fuss made over it on here.

That version, along with the remixed Screwdriver track have been on my playlist for months now, and I'm still not bored of them. Something I haven't been able to say about a lot of releases in the last 10-15 years. Normally they start off ok, get really good, then quickly stale. The whole of 2010 LP being a perfect example....but not these 2, oh no!

Honestly I don't listen to the original version often. Or at all. Got the remix and that I'll have on repeat.

It might be a bit cheesy, but there's nothing country about this song. It's also his best single in years.

It's a great song. I prefer this to the Chaos And Disorder outtakes he's releasing now. Or perhaps "Rock N' Roll Love Affair" is the "Dinner With Delores" of the new album?

It seems like some of the people who have expressed a liking for this track are referring to the the extended remix (not the club mix) rather than the original.

The melody to the lyrics is the same no matter what version, but I much prefer the original. I love the careful hinting of a vocal climax which works better on the radio edit than the extended version, as the two vocal parts of the falsetto thing are on the extended version divided with a way too long instrumental part, removing the feel of release it had on the radio version.

Hm.. yeah. But otherwise they're totally different. Almost as different as The 1 U wanna C and Chelsea Rodgers.

The OG one is ok, but the keyboard lines remind me too much of Take Me With U/. Not that I dislike the song, I dig that it get's rocky with that minor part "I don't care if we spend the night.." But that's about as gritty as it gets.

But that RNR Remix 7 is where it's at if you want some grittier sex rather than romance. Love the groovyness of it and almost disaffected tone it makes Prince seem to have. Much more Rock and Roll. Much sexier and gritter. The production Makes the "It's tight, but I think I could fit you in" line that much sexier rather than the cute playful vibe the original has.

In my humble opinion.

I did not care for it at first, musically it sounded lazy.

I was unenthused, but my other half liked the song and video and I began to understand why.

The song starts like an uptempo rocked up country song with relaxed vocals, he's telling a story in a sly way and sneaks a double entendre as the music kicks into full drive, building and rebuilding in layers until its shattering but still coffee shop friendly conclusion.
