The Walk.. the funkiest brass section ever is...

The freakin Oberheim played by the hands of Prince. Who needs Maceo on sax, Wesley on trombone, or any other brilliant musician blowin some sort if horns when you have this? Erase your knowledge of music theory, and just hear it for what it is. I've heard it a million times, but somehow it really did amaze me more when I tried listening to each element, each "voice" that as a whole imitates a brass section. The whole album is to me proving that Prince has one of the most complex minds when it comes to constructing so articulate, precise, intricate drum patterns and brass sections in his head. How he manages the whole "band" to sound so tight, yet so free as if there's a bunch of tight musicians jamming, is making me more amazed the more I learn about all these things myself.

The Time - What Time Is It? wink

I would argue that their first two albums are Prince albums in the funky style of Dirty Mind, Controversy and 1999. On these albums he had even more freedom to put on some really long vamps, jams and experimentation within the otherwise very tight arrangements. 1999 is the closest thing to a The Time album Prince has done with his own name.

He would make some big money if he remastered all those albums with heavy promotion, including bonus material and versions with his own lead vocals.
