3rd Eye Girl is actually a great musical experiment

I don't know about your guys I have not posted on the Org in many years, but so far the evidence points to a very successful and thoughtful musical experiment. They are a powerful quartet and I love how Prince showcases everyone and celebrates music making, this time squarely in the rock mode.

If you listen to stuff like Cinnamon Girl and Guitar, it's clear the 3rd Eye Girl material is vastly superior. It sounds like Prince decided he was too slick and decided to downplay formalism in favor of raw energy -- in the process he met talented young women who fully deserve the praise they hae received. Whatever they lack in virtuosity they make up in sheer energy and that is the whole idea of 3rd Eye Girl.

I'll certainly buy the album when it comes out and am curious about the results for the first time in years.

I agree with you.

I also like P+3EG.

I don't compare his current music with other era's because to me it's distinct.

I also love the raw and pure style of them.

I'm glad he got rid of the "sex sells" adagium.

His music does not need the same strategy as a car sale shop.
Leave that to Robin Thicke.

Prince and these girls are about the music and I really, really, really like that.

I'm convinced that I will see them perform live and that those concerts will be in my top Prince concerts.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I've always like it when he tries something different. And 3EG is just that. I think there are some hits and misses with the project, but overall I'm enjoying it all. It's just good to know that he's out there challenging himself - not just settling on becoming a nostalgia show.

Really? neutral

Do you think sexuality or sexual attractiveness is absent from this current line-up?

Exactly after all it's an all female band of women who are half his age. And he even got his female young hot guitar holder on stage now and has a beautiful female 22 year old manager

Bullshit! Prince has always used, and will still use sex to sell. But it suits his music well, and it does come a whole lot more natural to him than Britney Spears, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, etc. He is hella theatrical, but it is not forced. It's like one of his extra talents that he still can use at the age of 55? His use of makeup and intense flirting with the camera. Nobody else than Prince can get away with that shit.

So, when it are all girls, it's sexual, but when the band would be boys it would not be sexual?

Since when is merely the fact that there are girls on stage, it's sexual?

These girls are good musicians.

If I were 3EG, I would feel offended by the assumption that they are on stage because that is sexual.

These girls are really good musician!!!

And they are cool, but not walking around with only their nipples covered or in their underwear.

They wear clothes that suits them, they'r not doing a lingerie show.

Just because the three women of 3EG are young doesn't make it a "sex" act like Vanity 6 or whatever.

They can hold their own with Prince as a frontman -- nuff said.

He's obviously channeling his music through them. They are a prism, and a pretty good one too. A million miles removed from Appolonia 6, god bless 'em and Sex Shooter but this IS different.

I'm not against his flirty style and I love sensual lyrics and music.

In that respect, yes, Prince and 3EG are sexy.

However, there is a difference with e.g. Robin Thicke's video that is all about topless girls walking through the screen. I love the music blur of old songs, but I really don't dig the video.

Prince has stretched sexuality in many ways. Sometimes with bad taste, when it was only about girls' function in live is to be sexy and have lingerie as main dress (and we all know it's cold in Minneapolis eek ).

Other times, with good taste, by showing the world how the best and wonderful musicians are not men, but beautiful girls (Wendy, Lisa, Sussanah, Sheila, Candy, Cat etcetera)

Madonna her sexuality has been very important troughout the years for the emancipation of woman. Madonna did NOT obey the dominant, male constructed, consent, of how a female should behave. Madonna did what she wanted, shocked people to mirror their narrow mindedness. She liberated female sexuality and being in power as a female. I bow for her achievements in that respect.

Britney and Christina are girls of their generation. Due to internet (aka free porn 24/7) and HipHop music becoming mainstream, girls of that generation incorporated the idea, that a girl her value, lies in sexualy satisfying a man. And of course paying all his bills (yes, exaggerated, but not false).

Media has not valued girls or woman in other ways. They have to be a porn actress/rich/domestic godess. All just to satisfy a man. They are not defined by having a life of their own or doing things for themselves. I don't envy young girls in that respect.

I have always respected Pink for stepping up and showing the world that a great female singer - performer does not need to be a giggly, submissive sweetheart, but can be herself.

And I like it that Prince now has a full female band that is all about the music. He's not having a girl dancing around in lingerie or tiny dresses as a marketing tool.

3EG girls are musicians.

And their sexiness comes from being good, confident and having fun. Not defined by adopting the media dictated image of a bad porn actress or hiphipvideo models (also referred to as Ho, whore or bitch)

No.

Just... no.

I asked questions.

One question with 2 components was, "Do you think sexuality or sexual attractiveness is absent from this current line-up?"

What I am NOT saying is that these bad ass musicians were picked only because of their sexual attractiveness (or whatever that means).

I am NOT saying that is that a group of males couldn't be sexually attractive or have sex appeal as a part of their appeal.

I do question however one can dismiss their "attractiveness" (again, whatever that means) as not being beneficial when picking a backing group.

I'm not dismissing their skills. At all. If you've ever read any of my previous posts, I am often praising or defending the sklls of the women of the group. I absolutely believe they are talented. I suspect that their fair appearances did not hurt their chances of being picked for their duties.

To answer my own question: "I dont think either is absent for this current line-up."

I don't think talen is absent either. I believe it is their in abundance.

I really don't see this lasting very long, but it's kind of fun while it does.

Prince's genius is simply far beyond anything 3rdeyegirl can accomodate.
Prince would be limited in his live performances by what the girls are capable

of doing, and compromise is not something Prince does often artistically.

I would imagine he's probably taking loads of Cocaine or something

to help him cope with the limitations of the band these days.

It might be the reason the band gets on so well with him--bands

who are high as a kite might not soar musically, but they

at least get along thanks to all the drugs.

A great experiment yet mr P does not really fully grab that concept yet as demonstrated by the sampler sets.

I say 3rd Eye Girl is the anti-Vanity 6.

They are there more for their musical chops than how well they can fill something out of Veronica's Closet.

Has Prince seen the light on misogyny? Fixurlifeup seems to say so... and he is singing to the mirror again? Seems so... If there's one thing that has ruined Prince's life, it's misogyny -- thinik about it.

i think 3rdeye girl is a genius move. he just wants an excuse to immerse himself in some rock, mess with his tunes and do some covers.

& he couldn't have pulled it off with a bunch of middle agers... at least this way he can appear to be inspired & misled by the younguns in his band. he's desperate to misbehave imo.

but think he's holding back tho, too self consious. i'd love to see him let go & get very undignified

Firstly, welcome back, Aero! If you haven't yet seen the performance on Jimmy Fallon's show, please do loudly, and in high quality. This performance really shows the drive and attitude, and explodes musically. I also liked the Billboard award performance, but not as much as the Jimmy Fallow show from a guitar-based perspective.

I also really like this direction and what it has yielded thus far.

Out of the three recorded songs we've heard thus far, 'Screwdriver' is my fav, but I also dig this 'Fixurlifeup' track too.

Out of the recorded rehearsals we've heard, I really like 'BoomStratus', 'Plectrum Electrum', and of course, 'LetsGoCrazy Reloaded'.
