Crystal Ball If I Was Your Girlfriend Starfish & Coffee Was sure IIWYG was, didn't know about the other two. Starfish and coffee doesn't sound right though being about a school kid. If the milk turns out to be sour, I aint the kinda pussy to drink it!

it was about a kid Susannah knew in grade school. she told Prince about her. so I suppose you could say Susannah inspired it? but it's not about her.

Wonderful Ass too, I think. isn't that originally from '82 or '83?

It was the first one. Apparently that was when they met and Susannah was still with someone else (I think she was engaged to him too). The lyrics are pretty heavy stuff if you think about it.

Yes to all the others except Nothing Compares 2 U.

Why not NC2U? And why "yes" to all the others? The wooh is on the one!

The "Beautiful Ones" was written about Susannah? Are you sure? Is "Darling Nikki" about her too? Or is that whole album about her?
My questions are more rhetorical than inquisitory, because only Prince really knows who he had in mind when he wrote his songs. The fact is he may have had various aspects of various relationships in mind, sometimes it's like that when you write from your heart. One persons actions may remind you of an event in another relationship and spark a creative flow - the resulting creation can be about hybrid of relationships. It's just something that's mentioned in several biographies of Prince. While I can't be "sure" myself if he wrote the song about her my first assumption when I read something isn't that people just write bullshit they themselves have made up. Prince biographies are usually based on what his associates have told the writers.
You are right that he might have been influenced by various relationships when he wrote a song like "The Beautiful Ones" and that probably applies to many of his songs. However, lyrics being "about" something doesn't mean that there couldn't be some fiction thrown in too.
You are using the word "fact" and the phrase "the fact is" incorrectly, btw.

Yes to all the others because it's been stated in sources that these songs are about her (Beautiful Ones, Go, Empty Room, Big Tall Wall, Condition Of The Heart, IIWYG and input inc. Crystal Ball, Starfish & Coffee etc) - No to NC2U because it has been stated in sources that it was about his personal assistant.

These sources are interviews and books etc - nothing is 100% of course, unless you're going to ask Prince and he's going to a) cooperate, b) remember c) tell the truth and be civil, not cryptic. But I think now we're as close to 100% as you're going to get without that.

Yes, he wrote this song which replaced G-Spot & Electric Intercourse in Purple Rain about her. It was a song he wrote 2 her to woo her from her current boyfriend
Darling Nikki as far as we know is just for the film, not about a real person.
Why do you doubt that song particularly?
According to (Susan)Rogers, "The Beautiful Ones" was Prince's favorite. "That song meant a lot to him," she says. "It was written for Susannah Melvoin [Wendy's sister and, at the time, Prince's girlfriend]. A lot of songs were written about her, but that was the first one."
The album also contains one of Prince's most heartbreaking ballads, "The Beautiful Ones." Written for Susannah Melvoin, twin sister of guitarist Wendy -whom Prince had met in May 1983, while she was still in another relationship - it builds around gentle synths and slow drum patterns to the coy question: "If we get married, would that be cool?" Having concluded that you always lose the beautiful ones, Prince lets go for a moment of pure passion, screaming relentlessly to his unrequited love.

The Beautiful Ones” is the third track on Prince and the Revolution’s soundtrack album Purple Rain. Produced, arranged, composed, and performed by Prince, the song was recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles by Peggy Mac and David Leonard in early September 1983.

Wendy was already in the Prince scene back in 1980, she was doing some work with Prince on the 1999 project, she officially joined the band early 1983, Prince met Susannah mid-late 1983, the song replaced Electric Intercourse(performed @ 1st Avenue May 1983(Susannah was at the 1983 Benefit Show) Prince began the recording of the song early Fall 1983 right after the August 1983 Benefit Show
According to Rogers, "The Beautiful Ones" was Prince's favorite. "That song meant a lot to him," she says. "It was written for Susannah Melvoin [Wendy's sister and, at the time, Prince's girlfriend]. A lot of songs were written about her, but that was the first one."
