Mica Paris at Camden Palace I was listening to it this morning and wondered what Mica Paris had done before this to warrant being recognised in the crowd.
Did she release anything earlier than this? | |

not prior to that he hadn't. he recorded with her after pulling her on stage in '88. he just recognised her in the crowd and said something along the lines of "you sing don't you?" and pulled her on stage. Subsequent to that he gave her "If I love u tonite" which she subsequently released. Interestingly some early pressings of the 12" version came with Prince's demo version on the b-side but were quickly withdrawn. | |

It's more what she did before the Camden Palace gig that I'm interested in.
Assuming that she hadn't had major success before I Love U 2 Nite and the Contribution album, how come he recognized her? Or was it that she was singing along on the crowd so well that h assumed that she could sing? | |

Or was it that she was singing along on the crowd so well that h assumed that she could sing? she was a minor but rising star in the UK at the time - had a hit called 'like dreamers do' (not massive, but top 10/20 i think). i'm guessing prince was given a heads-up to her being in the crowd, as she wasn't that well known at the time. | |

She started to sing in her early teens in church and was a experienced session singer by the age of 16 (freakyfeet - 1985), principally on tracks by Shakatak. When she was performing with the Spirits of Watts she were encouraged by the Hollywood Beyond, which she joined for a tour. The tour preceded her solo contract with 4th & Broadway/ Island records. Mica Paris nurtured a sophisticated soul image at promotion performance´s at London´s Ronnie Scott´s Club in 1987 and 1988. " | |

Her first album contained the track 'My One Temptation' which was a huge hit in the UK, she had also scored a hit with a version of 'Where Is The Love' with Will Downing.
Saw her at Jazz Cafe last month. Amazing talent! | |
