Are you/were you really a Prince fan because of what a nice dude he is/was? Are you thinking of Tom Hanks, maybe?

All I am saying is: Prince is the same as his former self. Were you not around in the 80's?

Also, he is WELL with in his legal rights. How do people not see that?

It looks different to me. The new Prince can't stand himself. He distanced himself from the dude before, but if he was not happy before, he's less happy these days. He doesn't care anymore about being an inspiration. I don't even think he cares about making innovative music. I think he is enttitled to his decision.

^^^Very interesting thought.

I think that the Black/Lovesexy period was a major turning point, which took a few years to culminate into whatever decision he made for himself by the time he became prince

The old Prince is definitely gone...as can be expected, we all change as we mature in age. It's just that some fans are still sitting around waiting for Orange Snow (kudos if u get it) and no matter WHAT, it's never going to happen.

But the happiness thing...makes you go... hmmm

Maybe him and Tyka need to get together and watch it fall again? Might help.

People change, yeah. However much he'd like to pretend he's someone else, he never will be. The 'old Prince' aint gone. He's just adapted. Not too well either.

If you are applauding that he has a legal right, he does not. It has been addressed that EVERYTHING is done by hand, there is no use of any copyrihted material being directly used. NONE> So frm a true legal standpoont Prince hs no leg to stand on. But he has money, and atttorneys. I don't se how you guys don't get that stuff.
Especially Skywalker. Everytime you bring something to point you get real and factual retort, then you change you tactic to defend Prince. You said earlier that no one else is making money of other celebrities likenesses - so I posted links to retail books of painters work that was ALL celebrity that could not possibly have been signed off on by every celebrity in the book (on top of that his style is rather grotesque) and other sites that openly sell painted images of celbrities. Then you claimed Troy used copyrighted material and scans of albums. It was pointed out THAT was not true...so you moved on to Prince basicall being a jerk and what do you expect as a Prince fan.
But you STILL claim it is within his legal rights. It IS within his legal rights to send a cease and desist. But if you know anything about fair use laws or graphic design, trademark laws or any laws at all...the truth is that if Troy had a legal team he could easily fight and most likely win a suit. But it is clear he wasn't interested in that. PLEASE stop acting like you know anything about the law when it comes to art. Or at least read up on a few cases before posting about it again.

Listen, you CAN make money from selling art/caricatures/parodies of celebs. Many people do it. But, if your art looks too much like the celeb, and you haven't paid to use their likeness...you can easily get into legal trouble.

Again, I can make a doll that looks exactly like Han Solo/Harrison Ford, give it a pig nose and market a poster of that doll and call it "Ham" Solo. However, Lucasfilm has legal standing to come after me and shut me down...or not. Lucasfilm shuts down Star Wars porno parodies all of the time, yet they are relaxed on fan made figurines and art, etc. They don't have to be, they just are.

- so I posted links to retail books of painters work that was ALL celebrity that could not possibly have been signed off on by every celebrity in the book (on top of that his style is rather grotesque) and other sites that openly sell painted images of celbrities.

Prince is not relaxed on this. Some celebs are. If they have not given permission, they'd could go after all of the artists books you have posted to various extents. They just don't...doesn't mean it's not within their right to.

Then you claimed Troy used copyrighted material and scans of albums. It was pointed out THAT was not true...so you moved on to Prince basicall being a jerk and what do you expect as a Prince fan.

I never claimed he used scans. He did use/recreate copyrighted incongraphy (aka album cover art) and the like.

The only reason I mentioned Prince is not "mr nice guy" is for all the people pissing and moaning about "old Prince being gone". Like I said, old Prince was reportedly more of a dick than "new Prince". He's the same guy that ditched "we are the world" what do you expect? He went to war with WB. You know, THAT Prince? Is that the old Prince some fans miss?

But you STILL claim it is within his legal rights. It IS within his legal rights to send a cease and desist. But it is clear he wasn't interested in that. PLEASE stop acting like you know anything about the law when it comes to art. Or at least read up on a few cases before posting about it again.

Then, by all means, Troy should fight it.

In fact, why don't you all put your money where your mouth is?

If you think Troy has been so unfairly treated and has legal recourse....why don't you start up a prince.org/prince fans collective?

Try to raise money for Troy's legal funds thru our donations so he can fight Prince and sell his art.

I'll contribute $$ if you do, but I must warn you, I have been saving up for a DVD of Never Say Never Again and "R&R Love Affair" cd single.

I am gonna guess that you don't do this, and that mostly you are just here to piss and moan about what an asshole you think Prince is.

Makes me feel bad since I hate both singles, but Prince is a cold man! It's bad and dull times to be a fan at the moment. I need a break! wink

I don't think so. The average person on the street knows nothing about this, Andy's album or RnR Love Affair. Troy will quit selling his calendar, Andy will sell approximately 352 copies of her album to die-hard completists, Prince will or won't sell any of the single (and won't care either way), and the world will keep spinning on its axis.

Yup. And the ice caps will keep melting and the universe expanding.

As sad as I am to see LPP go, I have to say that there's something refreshing about Prince's don't give a damn attitude. I mean, he followed PR with ATWIAD, he said no to We Are the World, he made an album about his JW beliefs. He just does what he does. Would I like him better if he cared oh so deeply about what people thought of him, what fans thought of him, worrying about staying popular and obsessing about pleasing everybody? He'd probably be dead by now if he did, like other more accomodating stars that folks on here like to cite. Anyway, it doesn't matter whether I'd like him better this way or that - what matters is I like the music, and I will continue listening to the ones I like - nothing will change that. And I'll be one of those people he's packing in to his concerts.

It's weird to me that people are pissed at Prince about this.

What other celebrity/enertainment entity allows the sale/reproduction of their likeness to be sold unofficially without authorization/consent?

If I start making numerous Harrison Ford looking dolls wearing cute little fedora hats, leather jackets, and carrying mini bullwhips that's fine. It's a glorified arts and craft project.

If I start marketing/selling these dolls Lucasfilm is going to be all over my ass with a cease and desist.

educate yourself - he never sold the doll.

Ever been to NY or the beach and seen all the airbrushed celebrities on tee shirts? How many of those are sold every year? Cease and desist there? Nope. You could paint a portrait of ANYONE and sell it. It's your work. No case for cease and desist. Mad magazine (is that still around?) parodies celebrities all the time with their likeness. No cease and desist. What about impersonators making a living off of playing that artists music. Cease and Desist? no. If he sold the likeness in the form of just a mass produced doll you might have a case. That's a liscensing issue. And Troy turned people down on that. If he wanted to make money THAT is the way to go.

He made one doll, fabricated it himself, made clothes himslef, shot photos himslef and made a tiny bit of mercahndise based on his art. Technically not on Prince's likeness. No judge in the world could say that was Prince he was photographing. He was photographing something he created. The bottom line is Prince could have not been a dick about it and simply asked for no merchndise to be sold but keep on creating.

Since when is Prince obligated to respond to every person who seeks contact with him to "collaborate" on anything. 1st off, This [Snip - luv4u] from Seattle opens a WEB STORE selling Calendars, Shirts, $199.00 prints that include appropriated works that belong to Prince and Princes likeness. I no doubt, am very impressed by Troy Gua's craftsmanship and skill. There is no contest that he is talented.

I am not impressed nor convinced that his entire "Le Petit Prince" project is solely viewed and birthed from his "artistry". This is tremendous arrogance and/or ignorance for anyone to think you can launch all of this and on top of that, have words, titles and phrases within some of the photos that refer to Troy Gua as the Big Artist behind the Tiny Artist. Who do you think you are ? Copyrighted logos misused, and copyrighted artwork reproduced (scanned and printed) cannot be propped up as "art". If you were a real Prince fan, you would have never disrespected Prince on the many levels you did.

People in current times have a very distorted and grossly exaggerated sense of entitlment when it comes to what they think they are entitled to. Prince is his own person. Fans, "peeps" and/or "fams" have no right to be angry or upset when Prince doesn't deliver what they see fit for him to be doing with his personal life or his career. There is so much ugliness coming from inside peoples minds on this board, it's gross.

If you are a true fan of Prince, you just need to appreciate the things you like and/or love about Prince and not attack, hate on, judge, condemn or diss the things you aren't into or "down with". That is very immature and one-sided. Selfish. Prince fans are too ungrateful, and often. I am not saying Prince is perfect. No one is. Fans put too many expectations on celebrities and famous artists and hold their fandom hostage if they don't constantly get their way. How can you know his music and not learn from it ? That I don't understand. People pick people apart all too easily. There should be a lot more Positivity on this board. Prince is a wild ride, if U don't like surprises, Gett Off.

No, I'm not going to fight - that would be in direct opposition to the essence of the project. And that's not what I was referring to, anyway. I was responding to an uninformed, malicious attack against me and my work - and I shouldn't have taken the bait - I regret that. This project and the response at its finish has been overwhelmingly emotional, joy-filled, and POSITIVE. And that's how I want to leave it. Goodnight purple party people.

Exactly. You ask their estate. In fact, Madonna had a kerfuffle with Marlon Brando's estate for using his likeness in a video on her tour.

There's a HUGE difference between an actual photo/video of someone and a video of a puppet of someone.
