Like many things that used to be nerdy, Pink Floyd is considered cool now. I should listen to them more. I only have the Pipers album.

My first Prince concert was also my first concert ever. Frankfurt 1986 Parade tour (or whatever that tour was called). It was also the first time in my life I travelled abroad and I got my first passport ever for that ocassion . With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

I believe I have posted before that a coworker offered me a ticket to see Prince with her at the NYC Parade show in 1986, but I had to turn it down because my family was going away on holiday that week. I still can't believe I missed it.

I remember that . I was away for a Prince concert (I think in Belgium) when my niece was born (she was born a few weeks early, I would have been back otherwise) and I was in Munich for concerts of Alexander O'Neal and a Terence Trent D'Arby when she was baptised (they arranged the date without asking me first and we had already arranged the whole trip). She was pretty pissed when she found out about that when she was a child. At least I was lucky that I was back home in Vienna when my dad died 1 day after I returned home from Zürich where I saw a Prince concert and nightclub gig (he was seriously sick, but we did not expect him to die those days back then and he was seriously sick for a period of many years, so I could not always stay home because of that). With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

1992 Earl Court.
Dig this. Growing up in Nigeria, I was one of the few cats who really dug Prince in the real sense of the word.
Dreamt of seeing him live. Moved to England in 88, but not in time to see the lovesexy tour. Missed the Nude tour in 90. Met a Filipino girl who simply did not understand the Prince obsession.
Got 2 tickets for the D&P tour. Just a few rows from the front. As we were walking into the arena, M Bland and one of the gameboyz walks out and we meet them, exchanged a few words and got their autographs. Thunder & Daddy Pop plays continiously in the background, Prince lookalikes were popping up everywhere. Messages such as "There are no Kings, only Princes", "Wendy & Lisa pls phone home, "Tony M will rap tonite" pop up on the screens. I was already going dizzy with expectation at this point.
Concert starts and Prince rocks and funks the place out. Midway into the show, Prince jams this new tune where he raps. The tune is a call and response thing, and the response to it is a loud "YOU SEXY MOTHERFUCKKKER". Bear in mind that this was 92. We all obliged each time at the top of our voices.
Everything was perfect that evening...Gameboyz, D&P, Rosie Gaines, the rest of the band, and his royal badness who ended the show in an cubicle with D&P that slowly disappeared beneath the stage as he gave a victory sign.
What finally made my day? My Filipino honey got hooked on Prince, thanked me for the greatest show she has ever experienced and gave me the best ever xxxx that night.

went to all the d+p shows in the uk and i was always in the front couple of rows so i wasn't too far from u during the show. the most memorable part of the gig for me was daddy pop, i hate the album cut but live it was slamming, full of power and energy. when the flames went up at either side of the stage i remember feeling the heat off them burning into my face. don't play me...i'm over 30 and i DO smoke weed....

August 1993 Act II at Sheffiled Arena. I fell asleep during the 4 non blondes set (literally, in my seat). I only knew the new stuff from the symbol album, and of course most of the hits (although I remember when he played the opening chords to what i now know was little red corvette, the place erupted, and i thought what's this??). It was an amazing concert, still one of my favourites, from that night on I became a serious follower, and here we are today

Which night did you go? I was at the Sunday night show - which was MY 1st Prince show (and I remember it was rainy). That was 28 years ago this week
I was unsuccessful in getting tickets initially, but one of my classmates from school called me Sunday afternoon and said "want to go to the Prince concert tonight?" - and I was there!
We had to take the "L" and bus to the Horizon (we were 16 but neither of us had a parent's car for the night; my dad picked us up after the show) - and our tickets were *behind* the stage - but it was still amazing!!
I was back at the Horizon in 1988 for the Lovesexy tour too. I couldn't remember which show but looking at prince vault, it must have been the 3rd night bcz I remember Mavis Staples showing up in the 2nd half of the show.

June 2, 1990, Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the opening show of the Nude Tour.
The concert got cut short because of the storm that was raging over the stadium. That was the only dissapointment. I remember seeing the entire stadium rocking and dancing in the rain and Prince falling on the slippery stage and gracefully turning his fall into a slide over the stage, but then he sat behidn the piano and he got splashed with a whole bunch of water because the top of the stage wasn't built to withstand such amounts of rain.
Oh yeah and when somebody threw him some flowers he held them in the rain saying: "I think these flowers need some water"
Funny guy.
He made up for it on August 5, when he came back to Holland for an extra show in Thialf, Heerenveen. Fantastic show, still one of the best of the roughly 20 I've ever seem him give.
