This phrase has been thrown around for a long time and I continue to find it just icky.

This is the phrase one uses to describe the 90 year old relative that still made it to the picnic.

The sentiment is understandable. So many of our musical legends are no longer with us. Many died way before their time whether it be drug use, car accidents or whatever.

Prince is 54 years old and he still gets on like men a decade plus younger than him. I'm am also happy that he's still touring.

IMHO, this phrase just implies that 54 is so OLD. It's not, not even for musicians, as many are showing the world today. Legends don't always die, or just fade away, that's one reason they are legends.

IMHO, this phrase also implies that at 54 we should be grateful for any old shlop that is presented. If you were served a meal by a great chef, a chef that changed the way you look a food, a chef that changed the game, and at 54 he/she served you peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on wonder bread with a glass of over sweetened Kool-aid, would you really just be glad that he or she is still cooking?

Everyone is entitled to their thoughts and feelings. My issue is with this particular phrase.

Mick and Keith are almost 70 and still doing it....and doing it 'well' at that.

Well if the poster meant that the people at the org are small minded than I say : copy, print, and save.

And after all these years it took some unknown to me poster to give me the ultimate ephihany...now I know how to do better but Ill have to keep reminding myself.

I know but there's about 50% who are.

Time will show that there are alot of very un-cultured and small minded people around us, we ARE very fortunate to have Prince and long may he live...

I almost didn't even open this thread because of the quote. I am so tired of hearing this BS! I just posted something yesterday about it in another thread. Maybe it's because I am a mature individual myself, but I get so tired of hearing how amazed people are about his singing abilities and performances in relation to his age. Enough already! When you are blessed with that much talent it sticks with you.

I don't think he's old, but I also have said it about him and madonna simply cause they are born in the same year mj was, and I took his death very hard, so I have a context for saying it.

I don't see how we can ask him to stop making the only thing he knows and likes to do . If it sounds bad, don't listen to it.

There is no wonder there is such a split between campers.

On one side, Prince defined so much of what is wonderful.

On the other side, Prince defined so much of what is assy.

He's got two sides. They might be friends, but for the rest of us it's a challenge.
