Unexpected Prince song in a restaurant I was out in Gothenburg in Sweden last night and I ordered a beer. Then I heard a familiar sound, Prince's song Guitar started to play. It was rather surprising to hear a song from Planet Earth and I really enjoyed it because it's a very good song. It made me wonder who was in charge of the music and that's an unanswered question, but someone with good taste.
Which unexpected Prince songs have you heard out in public?

A few months ago I was in a fancy restaurant in San Francisco when Lavuax came on. "Prince doesn't have verbal diarrhea, he has studio diarrhea...." Allen Leeds

About a week and a half ago I was at a Cititrends (Clothing) store and some Prince song started to play. I don't know what song it was but it sounded like it was live and a performance with The Time.
&
A few days later when I went back this time Butterflies was playing, Marsha Ambrosias version of it. Because I'm a huge Michael fan I was all like YAY!
So the first time I went there a Prince song was playing and the second time, a Michael Jackson one. It was all like Coincidence? How'd they know! ~ You're a desire, I get higher every time I speak your name ~

They play most of the "Musicology" album in the Kroger grocery store where I live. It's kind of cool hearing "ICPAC" while comparing prices for apples, LOL.

I went into a sunglass shop & I heard If I Was Your Girlfriend. It's hard to concentrate when you're busy being flipped out by the song choice! Peace in the House of Prince.

I recently heard the PR album being played in a Sydney shopping mall (Roselands). Not in a shop, but on the PA throughout the entire mall. I can't say if they played the whole album or not but upon my arrival I heard, 'I would Die 4 U' into 'Baby, I'm A Star' into 'Purple Rain', complete with the long strings outro.
That is not enough to get me back to that shit mall.

When I was 17 my mum took me shopping for a school Christmas party outfit. It was in Top Shop & I had spotted these really cool black suede heels that buckled at the front & looked like Mayte shoes to me! Lol Anyhow, as soon as I buckled up the last shoe I heard a scream "waaaah-oooow!" & Gett Off started. I instant looked up at my mum & gushed " I HAVE to get these, I NEED to get these mum, it's a sign!!!" And a few months later I danced on the symbol on the dance floor at Glam Slam & walked the hallowed halls of Paisley Park in them. Although he wasn't there, I suppose those shoes did eventually walk me to Prince!

I was having a Hot Choc with a friend last week at Gloria Jean's Penrith, Sydney when I started singing along to Controversy, My friend asked if that was the song in my head & I replied, " No, It's playing on the radio here" She was like , We can't go anywhere without hearing your man ( after Little Red Corvette was playing in Big W) & I said, "Nope & I don't mind either!!!! [Edited 7/24/12 5:46am] Prince once tried 2 change his name 2 a symbol so that ur'e mother couldn't find him in the phonebook!

I was at the mall with a friend and walked into a store. When I got in there the first thing I heard was I Wanna Be Your Lover. I looked around and asked my friend if he heard it too, he replied "Yeah, I can hear squiggle too (his nickname for Prince)". It was weird because it looked like I was the only one there that knew the lyrics... Purple is the color of my heart,

Walked into a record store a while ago and they were playing the Parade vinyl, heard it from beginning to end. A couple weeks later this site was abuzz that Andy Allo took Prince to that very same store. Kinda cool. Love's no fun when the one you love don't love you.

Its because of the whole name change to the symbol in the 90's. I was watching an interview from that era and he overheard that Prince's name used to be an unpronounceable symbol so he started calling him The Artist Formerlly Known As Squiggle, then just Squiggle. It's gotten old to me, really fast Purple is the color of my heart,

I also heard Money Don't Matter Tonight. And in a B&Q store near my house they play a cheap cd with cover versions of 80s songs, amongst them Alphabet St and Manic Monday...
