Is it fair to say that we are spoilt & ungrateful fans?.

Now before you all flame me to death I will state that I include myself in the subject header.

Lets get some facts straight, there are very few artists who work as hard as P does, there's always a tour, always new music and frankly rarely a dull moment to be had. Hell he's even giving out jams for free. The debate about quality [old days vs. new] or 'we have the right to complain' is of course valid - all opinions count BUT give the purple dog a frikkin bone every now and again!!.

I despair, any associate females are totally ripped apart, any free stuff is ripped apart [fair enough but at least a 'thankyou for the freebie' should be dished out!], associated artists can't breathe without every word being ripped apart, set lists on tours are analysed to death and....ripped apart [forget the fact that he at least bothers to rework old hits to give them a bit of life].

I can moan on and on but I 'd like to think at as we get older as a community we can perhaps get a bit more dignity and above all else be a bit more diplomatic, less intense and just fuckin' chill?

One note to end on, if you were Prince would you look at the org comments over the years and continue to work / be creative or would you just think 'fuck it, no more candy 4u' !!

"Fans" are customers. So to answer your question: No. You can't be "ungrateful" for, or "spoiled" by merchandise you're paying for.

Actually, you can, because you have to look at lifetime value. Someone pays £10 for a cd that should last them a lifetime. Were you paying £1000 for the same product you might have more leverage, but when its peanuts you're paying, you can't really whinge - well, you can, but its kind of inappropriate. Having said that, I don't see anyone complaining about the worst thing being the lost money on a purchase! (for albums at least) wink If you don't like the product, fine! But, people on here go way beyond just criticising his releases.

You could also argue that in today's climate, fans aren't necessarily customers, because some are not paying for the product in the first place.

Furthermore, as was alluded to by the OP, we're not just talking about merchandise here. Who is paying for the free stuff?

So, in answer to your statement - its not so black and white and final as a straight "no".

That's always an option, but I'd settle for him no longer releasing any new music.

.... Is the correct answer.

Besides if someone throws runny poo at you, just because there's a lot of it does it mean you're being spoilt and should be grateful?

You forgot to mention there's always a lawsuit and a judge ordering Prince to pay someone. If he doesn't like the complaints maybe he should think about changing his tactics but 'fuck it, he can "do whatever he wants" like the purple kool aid drinkers often remind us. He is constantly trying to do stupid PR tricks and many of his fans just don't care much for his associate females. Some fans, and I include myself can feel he is a little desperate. He can continue to do whatever he wants but us fans will continue to complain and continue to praise him on this fan community site.
I don't understand your purpose for starting this thread? Prince already said no more candy 4 u.
Is it fair to say Prince is a hypocrite who needs to come down off of his high horse?

Pretty much, yeah.

Prince has officially put out much more music than anyone else I can think of. He's got as much more that's hit the market through bootleg channels.

He's still making music, although there's been a couple year lag since his last CD.

If one thinks they don't have enough music from Prince, that's on them, not Prince.

That's the "spoiled" part. But ungrateful?

Nope. Not me, any way. I'm extremely grateful for all the music Prince has put out, and the uncountable joy I've experienced listening to it.

I don't know if 'spoilt and ungrateful' are the right words. What's amusing is that if one doesn't like something, enough to call it 'runny poo,' why on earth would you continue to put yourself through s***?

Opinions may differ but being a critic doesn't mean one has to be abusive or rude. I do applaud our new youthful fan's approach to these people with his 'haterade' phrase. Leave him alone, what does it matter how long he has been a fan? It's just age discrimination and descrimination is UGLY. I swear the cynicism and bitterness on here by some, sounds like some are 80 years old.

Enjoying someone's youth when it synched with your own but denouncing their talent when their path strays from your own is more a matter of 'I want it my way only.' Nothing stays the same in life, change is the only constant. So hanging on to yesterday and moaning & asking why it doesn't look/sound like today is apart from a waste of time, rather narrow minded in my opinion.

And as for the bashing of the associates, well, I guess some people just have nothing better to do. Some things are not worth understanding.

Since Prince tried to fuck with every kind of listener possible during his career, I'd say that's the price he has to pay for: a very diverse fanbase!

I for my part won't lower my expectations. I'd rather like to see him release nothing for the rest of his life than another bunch of songs the world doesn't need.

after purchasing guff such as rave n musicology i'd say it's prince thats been spoiled and he that should be grateful.

liking his 80s stuff doesnt mean people are stuck in the past, i listen to new music all the time. its simply that his 80s music is better, and i can prove it using nothing more than an etch-a-sketch.

Preach it! nod

People are saying they can't be spoilt because Prince hasn't been giving much since the 80's. Even though gave us ten + albums and toured 24 times since. The dude can't rest because these message boards blow up with "I WANT A NEW ALBUM" or "I WAND PRINCE TO PERFORM IN _____" threads.

Just because you don't like the albums since 199_, doesn't mean you're not spoiled..... because you bought all of those albums since and you still WANT MORE even if you don't want to admit it lol

For me it's not Prince being the Prince of Dirty Mind or Purple Rain

It's the deliverance, show me that you believe in the album you put out

Don't tell me to appreciate it, when you won't even perform half the songs from an album

Put out some good videos and don't throw out songs like Hot Summer and Rich Friends and tell me I should be grateful. I appreciate Prince from 1976 till now, just give quality.

I want to hear Prince, not covers.

I'm very selective nowadays. I haven't bought his albums and been to his concerts for years. The advantage of the internet is: you can check out products before buying! That's what a lot of people like Prince and most parts of the music industry definitely underestimate. With the possibility of previewing products, the potential consumer is able to decide for himself if he gets his money's worth or not. Quality control all around, not just the aspect of getting something for free like everybody says.

Prince takes his hits around the world because that's what the majority of people who come to his concerts want to hear. Lets say over his 6 concerts in Oz 100 thousand people (rough guess) probably more attended. That you have a 100 maximum die-hard orgers that complain about set lists with old hits, is barely something Prince should take into consideration when planning his set-lists, especially when he hasn't played in a country for year.

Great that you're a fan of the 'past' Prince. What a pity you don't hear anything new in the music or appreciate the fact that he dares to venture into different sounds.
