I think you are on to something here...as soon as he stops trying to live up to and maintain the "prince" image, he may very well get back to some brilliant song writting. Unless of course he has simply run out of ideas. There are only so many words, so many notes and sounds to work with. After 30 plus years of putting out way more material than most artists, he may have simply exhausted his creative possibilities. I hope not.

You're delusional. We have deep discussions about his music all of the time. Then there are always egomaniacs like you whom think your opinion trumps all and those who disagree are "insular". So let's just pick and choose YOUR favorite songs of all time and conclude that those must be the best Prince songs because, well, you said so. Get ahold of yourself.
Maybe you should wipe the mold out of your ear every time you listen to those new songs expecting them to tickle you the way the old ones did.

No one's saying anything from Lotus is on par with SOTT or 1999, but it's not all dark skies either.
Lower your expectations, it's easier and more realistic. That last part is classic!!!!! I isn't all dark skies but it hasn't been sunny in a very long time.

It's posters like you who come in and say nothing important tht leave this ace feeling tired, old and almost useless. This is a board built around one of he last massive pop music talents and all some of his fans do is make excuses for a reality that even Princ knows.

If u do decide 2 release another album prince, please make it available 4 all of us, not just a UK paper. How about a Blu-ray audio release 4 those of us who still appreciate quality.

BOOM perfectly said man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

right there is the problem a lot of prince fans have on here ..they want that same 24-30 year old man at the age of 54 still and don't he dare move from that age. hence his setlist in his shows .but prince isnt the only artist 2 come up with this same problem man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Or join a bootleg site because that's the only reason they log on the org.

If that's the case, then Prince.org needs to change to Prince2000s+officialreleasesonly.org. And then enjoy the threads all 5 of you would have. You guys can say and come up with the dumbest shit ever, I tell ya.

Yes he is pretty much done as as studio artist, a song-writing artist becuase he is old now and has lost his creative spark.
Prince used to compose and record all those songs because he coudln't help doing so. He had to create and those new compositions flowed out of him.
But he's "tapped out" and probably doesn't have anything else he feels he wants to say, musically. There's no shame in that but that's what happens when you get old.
And for the record, i think "Wall of Berlin" is as good as most of his great 80s material. Maybe he will write another nice song or two but they will be fewer and farther between then ever before.
The party doesn't last forever..accept it and deal with it.

I realy like what he released since his "comeback in the spotlight"!! Musicology and 3121 are among my fav Prince albums, they really have that Prince feel we all recognize. Planet Earth and 20Ten are good albums with some great tracks. Never really got in2 Lotusflower but some good songs, I prefer MNPLS!!! Funky!!
But although I prefer the 00-period over the 90´s, it´s a fact that his 80´s and early 90´s material got me from the first listen. Even now when I discover an 80´s outtake it sounds right from the first note!! Maybe because it just reminds me at a great period in my life.
Anyway, it really doesn´t matter, Rolling Stones, Metallica, George Michael and other "older" artist released their best albums decades ago but are still better live than the hitmachines from these days.

I don't know why u hate bootlegs so much but without them, prince would have been out of the public eye years ago man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

L4OA - wrong! Fatally flawed argument - otherwise he would be making money live off of playing boot tracks wouldn't he. As it is he's not.
Prince's hardcore fanbase is likely much smaller than it was even in the 90's - Lotusfailure site went some way to proving that.
It's us as the hardcore fanbase who have turned to bootlegs to satisfy our own nostalgia agenda - not Prince.

[Edited 6/17/12 0:46am] I agree with you on all points... The older material was quirky and catchy and full of life and personality... The last 16 years or so have had some Outstanding material but as a whole have been rather disappointing for me... To your last point, music and performance isn't a competition... Prince is my guy but he appears to have lost t he magic that made songs like Power Fantastic or Another Lonely Christmas or Hello or Sign O The Times. Oh well... Thanks for sharing

if it wasn't for bootlegs tho his legacy as a live performer wouldn't have been that known. then being able 2 hear vault material increased that awareness. now since the well is dry he's living off the greatest hits man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Then why do so many fans insist upon comparing Prince's recent work with his past work? Why does he has to continually surpass himself to satisfy some fans? If it's not a competition then let all of his works stand on their own with lamenting about how 20ten isn't as good as 1999. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

CLASSIC!! (lol)..Best reply of the month. A site where there's a forum for every year discussing every record/tour/movie, etc....but I don't think it would be more succesful than the orginal org.
Sometimes I think if the org (and today's technology) had been around in the golden 80's, some fans would still have Prince complaints.

Let them complain. Let them listen 2 other artist like that boring ass Adele. [Edited 6/17/12 7:39am]

ok, I concur with you on this point. However, as Lotusflow3r (disc 1) shows, he continues to record some gems - which can still hold up to some of his work from way back. So wouldn't go writing him off just yet

Who said I hated bootlegs? I own them.
And the bolded part is complete bullshit. Prince as a live act has been getting quite a lot of buzz and grossing a lot of money due to sold out concerts. Bootlegs have done none of that.

The only Prince bootleg to get mainstream notice was the Black Album beyond that it's a diehard/hardcore thing. The average Prince fan isn't tracking down every show and all the unreleased material. I see this when I DJ the Prince party in June and even when I play boots on my CD player at work. People don't know the songs from jack most of the time. The occasional diehard fan will know the songs most people are astoundeed he's got that much material on the shelves.
