Planet Earth appreciation

Listening to it right now. It's awesome and funky & got some nice tracks on it ie the funky Chelsea Rogers, smooth sounds of Somewhere Here on Earth, the playful sounds of The one U wanna C.

I feel like it's an underappreciated album.

What are your thoughts?

pray Peace in the House of Prince.

Its a mixed bag and I have to say the wekest of his 2000's period, let down by the clunkers, Future Baby Mama (Ghetto style and mentality Rap), Mr Goodnight (Turgid old man lothario rap commentary) and of course being force fed a bag of sugar by listening to All the Midnights in the World aimed at all 5 year olds everywhere in Barney and Raffi land.

Now thats off my chest, the rest is great. Lion of Judah, Chelsea Rogers and Guitar are really good stuff, the 1 u wanna c is catchy with such great lyrics like "I come like thunder" and "If u wanna get creamy baby, I'm the one u wanna c"

The rest is okay, but overall a B- album for me.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Apart from Chelsea Rodgers, I love it. I burnt myself one with PFUNK in place of CR. Much better.

I like it because he sounds like himself on the record. About half of the tracks are reminiscent of his 80s period and the other half of his 90s period. People who hate the newer cutesy stuff like "All The Midnights In The World" seem to act like "Starfish and Coffee" and the Dream Factory sessions never happened. lol

I like production a lot more on it than 3121. 3121 might have the better songs, but on Planet Earth the sounds and the arrangements work a whole lot better.

Don't take the album too seriously. It's cartoonish, fun and it's still the work of a musical genius.

That's actually why I love Planet Earth, the production seems a lot higher on it and the melodys are, in my opinion, a lot better than 3121. And the fact that its so light hearted and cartoony is another reason its awesome. It reminds me of some of Sign 'O' The Times quirkier moments.

I cannot lie, I absolutely love this album, pretty much from the beginning to the end boxed

It was on heavy rotation in my car cd player for the past 2 weeks, now I am on to Graffiti Bridge

Mr.Goodnight was killing me, I would be sitting at work and lines from this song would just pop into my head and I would laugh/smile at the thought of Prince singing this song/lines to someone.

I love, love, love Somewhere Here On Earth. Just sexy to me biggrin

Agree with that all that.

I probably like about 50-60% of the album, very little I don't like and some I'm m'eh on, but overall it was a step in the right direction from Musicology and 3121, for me. Contains some of my fav 00's tracks.

I used to hate the album except 4 SWHOE, but it quickly grew on me. Chealsea Rogers is my favorite track, and a lot of the album is good. I don't like The 1 u wanna c, and mr goodnight, but the other tracks somewhar make up 4 it. I'd give it a solid B.

I've only listened to this once. It's one of the albums I don't want to listen to ever again. Boring rehash combined with unconvincing songwriting. Prince should be ashamed of releasing an album like this.

Yes I feel it is a simple & neat album with a few really great tracks. Nothing scandalous or anything about this album and I think that's a good thing considering the title of it.

I might be biased because I love and have enjoyed all of Prince's albums for all types of reasons.

I love the cover of it because he looks sexy in his red shirt with the top buttons opened to reveal his chest hair. and that chunky symbol chain around his neck is awesome. where can I get one of those?

I can't look at the cover without thinking of Ernest's version. The shock of that is etched in my brain forever.

This, he did it a few years ago, Ernest was a rather large man who was obviously into graphic art, he also did one for Parade

As epic as that all is, I'm just gonna pray he didn't do one for Dirty Mind or Love Sexy ^^. Just kidding but still, that Planet Earth picture is actually epic.

i think it is the only studio album released in stores that I did not get. It was leaked a few days early and I was not at all impressed.

The only song on it i wasn't too keen on was Chelsea Rodgers. it's a decentenough song but It just felt really out of place to me.

I replaced it with The Morning after, that seems a Better fit for the album to me.

The one U wana C is his best song of the last 20 years.

He's one of my contacts on flickr. those photos date from the thread,. I saved them staright away as I thought they were hilarious, as Ernest looks nothing like Prince, in fact if Prince is the North Pole Ernest is the south (Prince, black, skinny, short, straight), Ernest - well the opposites. They are quite clever, but he really should have ironed the shirt in the PE one.

Just ribbin' ya - the 'hand' reference was a cheeky quip that you might had them close at hand, to have a little hand shandy with razz wink
