Ok in my opinion really feel he just pulled the plug on it because of the disappointing membership. it was so much build up 2 this site. It even was a launching party @ his Hollywood mansion. Then at a ben3fit 4 Tavis Smiley. He let us fans play with the site b 4 it launched. Something happen that pissed Prince off. 2 make him pull the plug on the whole "MasterPiece" website b4 all the promises we're made..

Release an album like in the old days...

sign with a major,

take a little time creating it,

collaborate with serious artists/musicians,

PROMOTE it esp AFTER its released instead of losing interest the minute it hits the streets,

and friggin tour...stop with this coast-only shit.

He almost got back to this with Musicology and 3121...but since then its all gone to crap. Lotusflower was a great album, but everything else around it was a hot mess as are these newspaper deals...you hear more about the damn way its issued than the music.

Totally agree - especially regarding issue with distribution methods - other artists manage to promote and sell product, whether independently or other wise, he should be able to.

Lotusflow3r would've been an excellent one disc release. Prolonged promotion may just have given it longevity

4got Prince released another two singles "Dance 4 me" & Bria's "2nite' from that project overseas. So he is actually still promoting it & can still pull from it anytime. Music has no timeline..

The release of Crystal Ball was painful. Pretty much everything he ever released strictly via NPG Records was painful. There was a couple times when things seemed to go fairly well when the NPGMC was at full-strength. Like, I don't recall there being any major issues with the release of NEWS. But mostly, just pain.

I'm not sure why dude can't figure it out, either. You would think with such a loyal built in fanbase he would be able to absolutely destroy with his OWN indepedent label, but he just hasn't been able to pull it off. And now things have gone so weird that he doesn't have that same built in fanbase anymore. Not as big as it used to be, anyway.

My only guesses, which I said many times before, are that he doesn't/didn't realize how much work it is to manage everything from beginning to end when you're self-releasing material. Either that or he's never hired the right people to do it for him. Or he did hire the right people, but made it difficult for them to do their jobs. Those are all guesses, but again, he SHOULD be able to release material on his own and make money hand over fist. I just think he'd rather pocket a couple million and let somebody else deal with all the BS, regardless of how crap a job they do with manufacturing, distributing and promoting.

Prince could just take preorders on releases and once the preorder reach an acceptable # - release it. This would = he would get the money upfront before torrenting, etc. Also times have changed since Crystal Ball era, everyone would be fine with FLAC files while waiting for shipping. I just think he should explore options more and think outside the box of how things work.

and Prince can still sell a ton of albums. If Andy and Larry albums are planned for Sept, then Prince likely would wager a certain amount of Prince material into that equation. If not I don't see Larry and Andy selling a lot of copies. But with Prince music included people will buy in!

It would mean selling 250,000 copies vs. 10,000 copies of whatever and I think he would still help his friends Andy and Larry out. Heck, he could even wager up some live recordings and it would mean selling many more units.

Excuse me but releasing digital singles 3 years after the album dropped is some shitty 'promotion' and I don't recall a single word from prince himself at the time of these two releases, That's not lengevity of a project, that's just sloppy business practice

1. I was told in January by someone who would know that Prince was working on a new album. But dang! How long does it take? I'm beginning to be doubtful/think Prince lost interest. I'm still ever hopeful, though.

2. GIFs are OK on a short thread, but when a thread gets this big, it takes a minute or two for the dang thing to load. I don't know what the answer is, other than maybe making sure that when you reply to a GIF post, don't include the GIF again in it. Maybe that would lessen the memory requirement.

Unless Prince comes out and says that he isn't recording new material and HASN'T BEEN recording new material then he IS recording new material. That's what he's done his entire life, so there is no reason to think he suddenly stopped.

The questions seem to be, A) has that material been for his album(s) or for other peoples, and B) if it's for his album(s) then when is he going to get around to releasing them? It does seem possible (marginally) that after then last few albums and the weak release structure of 2010 that he may have lost interest in the process of putting out albums. I'm quite sure he's been "working on it", though.
