Since Prince isn't contractually obligated to put out another album on demand maybe he just decided to not put one out every year any longer. He seems to enjoy touring more now and has been on the road with the 'Welcome 2..." shows for almost 2 years.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Prince has said that he is spending too much time in the studio recording & is in studio rehab. Do U even keep up with what he says? I guess not. Even though he does contradict himself. He did say it boo boo.

Stop calling me boo boo you annoying stupid face.

Why ask a dumb question if you're just going to answer it yourself. That just makes you look more dumber.

And from the straight pulled out of your ass nonsense you post on the regular it's pretty clear you don't keep up anything. There's been plenty of reports of Prince being in the studio.

To me it's very difficult to take any of Prince's new material seriously if you know that he could create an even better album with unreleased stuff who is actually around 25 years old, but much more enjoyable.

Proof enough that he doesn't strive for the best with releasing new albums. It's more like a diary. What came out of recording sessions this year? Ok, here's the album.

I enjoy the bootlegs as much as the next person but do you think the stuff got shelved and never used because Prince thought it wasn't up to par. He played some of them live back then and maybe he didn't get the reaction he thought he'd get. Also for every 'Purple Music' or 'All My Dreams' there was a 'Big Tall Wall' or a 'Cat Scratch'.

Prince even said "It's a shame he got so good at recording instead of touring" But surely he must know, it's pretty standard to record something and then tour in support you recorded. Since it's obvious; no one really makes a lot money from CD's..what's the purpose in really trying to sell a CD to make money from it??? IF HIS CONCERN IS MAKING MONEY?

WHICH HE HAS ENOUGH OF ANYWAYS...lol

Prince established himself Post-WB with his own independent label; and surely it proved to be successful in some respects, but failures in a lot too. I just want him to release a new album, and to perform the songs from that album. Support the album and concept!! smile

I am not trying to go back the past; but one reason I LOVE "One Nite Alone..." So much is because he virtually dedicated his tour to that whole concept and others he worked on at the time. Yet he managed to throw in some of the 'Hits'. But It would have been cool IF Prince while releasing 'Lotusflow3r' toured in support of it...MEANING PLAYING MOST OF THE SONGS. AND not just occasionally, but most of the time. I loved "Love Like Jazz/All This Love/Dreamer/Crimson & Clover/Colonized Mind/...And a few others but they were barely thrown in the mix. It would have been a treat if he stayed interested in that album while throwing in some other hits. Now the topic is changing to what I want him perform while touring.. lol

Let me just say this; I do believe he will release another album as it's in his nature. We already know he won't leave us with 20Ten. (OR occasional singles like Extra lovable and a few rehearsals) He has lost grasp of time, because he never really cared about 'Time' in the first place. Prince does when he feels the leading to do. It has been a long time for us, but for Prince he has worked his butt off; because he has been constantly touring these last years.

So I hope when he decides to release an album it's one that is focused and promoted.

He can pull out an album from the vault? And just polish it up...we already know he completed some.

An official website should be launched and not taken down! For the life of me, I don't understand why he creates these websites and then shuts them off..It's bad business and just inexcusable for HIM especially. But hey it's Prince doing it HIS way. It would be nice if he would just submit in some respect. Even if its to himself. If he could submit to the will of the fans?

I think the album will come out of no where..I don't know if he will release another album along with Andy...But that would be cool!

He can take another 'Musicology' approach; and give each album away with each ticket sold.

I know he'll release something..it's just a matter of Prince's 'Time' which to him does not exist....lol

It's Button Therapy, Baby!

Well, i can imagine a lot of reasons why some tracks got shelved:

- the track is actually crap

- it belonged to another project/period

- it doesn't fit stylistically

- it is kind of released as a bootleg

- Prince wants to show the world how prolific he is (vanity)

- he saves it for the future

- he doesn't realize the quality of the track

etc.

As plausible as above mentioned reasons might be if an artist really wanted to strive for the best with an album he would have made use of his best unreleased tracks as soon as possible (or as soon as he realises my new material isn't up to par). Actually this is quite a normal process in case of many artists. Even Prince is known for doing so in the past.

I understand what your saying but just because the fans enjoy a unreleased track doesn't mean Prince will think it's good enough for release. Look at how long it took for him to get back to Extraloveable and that was probably more Andy Allo's influence than the fanbase.

I'm not so sure that he doesn't know about the quality of some tracks.

In fact he released some of them years later. Much too late for my taste and not in a proper form with enough quality control. Tracks like Crystall Ball or Old Friends 4 Sale definitely would have deserved better. What about Rebirth Of The Flesh, Purple Music, In All My Dreams, Our Destiny and many more? All of these tracks will result in an Crystal Ball like outtake compilation without any artistic dimension. Great songs, but forever homeless, instead of being part of another 8 or 10 track killer album.

I think if someone is doing a "Greatest hits" tour than that usually means he's got no new material, right?
I think he should create a new website where ppl can buy or download albums, dvd's & merchandise it would be great!! Shit, I'll create & maintain a website for him for free of charge if he wants. ...I just gotta learn how to do it.
pray Peace in the House of Prince.

That's from a fan perspective.

What about the overall impact of the Crystal Ball compilation as a release? It was very little. Great music, buried in a doubtful mix without any artistic dimension.

It was a collection of previously unreleased trtacks and alternate versions. It wasn't supposed to have any cohesive artistic dimension. Some of those tracks were Revolution era all the way up to NPG era. As a release it served the purpose it was meant for. Whether the fans loved it or hated it doesn't diminish its intention.

Right. The questions is: Does this kind of compilation do the greatness of some songs justice?

Each song stands on it's own in this kind of compilation. How can 'Last Heart' have any bearing(good or ill) on 'Interactive' or vice versa?

Personally...

I thought the mixing of eras, edits and forcing the songs to "flow" into one another all took away from their impact.

We know there are better, original versions of some of those songs. Why change them? People didn't want edits and new parts, just a clean release of those tracks.

It felt like Prince wanted Crystal Ball to be some sort of event, rather than just the archive collection that it was.

And I do believe that the songs would feel stronger and just generally make more sense if they were done by era, session, album, year, etc. Some sort of cohesion.

Having said that, I was still thankful to finally get something like Crystal Ball and I'd be happy with another one.

The Truth is still my favorite disc, though. lol

"Crystal Ball" didn't work neither as an album nor as an archive collection. It was in every aspect unfocused.

This is where the 'are we spoiled thread' kicks in. There are so many fans who just don't want a single thing done to a classic unreleased track other than improved sound quality. This comes from the notion that the version we've grown to appreciate is the only version there possibly is. That is a flawed concept since we've learned that Prince has used bits of songs to create other songs and reworked tracks until they are no longer anything like the original concept(like Summertime Thang becoming The Latest Fashion). Even recently the piano intro on 'Our Destiny' is clearly from 'Condition Of The Heart'. The truth is we don't have any idea what any unreleased track was supposed to end up being or if Prince ever considered it "completed". We've just come to accept certain tracks are "done" because that was the version we've grown accustomed to hearing.

The Truth kicks ass! I still wish he did that MTV Unplugged episode he spoke about back then!

Do you mean the strings intro is from "The Ladder?"

Anyway, it's a valid point.
