new world

Am I the only one who likes this track? I can't stop listening to it. Do y'all think he should've performed this live or record more songs like this?

Very under appreciated track.

I think it's great.

There's maybe too much material on the Emancipation album that could have been performed by anyone else, but "New World" - despite its nod to 90s electronic music - sounds definitely like a song only Prince could have done.

When I first heard it I also had to keep it on repeat. Great track, still love it.

It's a funky mix of naughty beats and yeah he should he play it live and make more like it.

New world {x4}

When the sharpest vibration
Saves U from obliteration
The intelligence of your bed reacts
Covering U head 2 toe with an air-filled sack

CHORUS:
When the lines blur every boy and girl
How we gonna make it in this brave new world?
Love 4 one another - New world
Love 4 one another - New world

When U wanna find some isolation
But the tracker U got from vaccination (Keeps playin')
Keeps playin' - "U'll never walk alone" (Over and over)
They're always listening, especially on the phone

CHORUS

Wait a minute
New world

Did U hear about the new pill? It feels like sex!
Guaranteed 2 thrill with no ill side-effects
A pill that will stop the wrinkles, a pill that will stop the pain
A pill that will make a baby never seek political gain
What's it all 4 when U can alter biology?
Who or what, then my friend, will U and I be? {x2}

When the sharpest vibration
Saves U from obliteration
When the melting pot stirs, how U gonna take it?
When U can't tell him from her, how U gonna fake it?

When the lines blur every boy and girl
How U gonna make it in this brave new world?
Love 4 one another - New world
Love 4 one another (How U gonna take it?)
(How U gonna fake it?)
Love 4 one another (How U gonna take it?)
(New world) New world

I appreciate the attempt to go for a new more modern sound, since Prince's Old school rehash bores me to death. Listening to this track though makes you realise that it just didn't work out.

The lyrics are powerful because they're from the book Brave New World by Aldus Huxley. I recommend everyone read it as the events foretold in it are exactly what our leaders are trying to turn our country into. If you read Brave New World Revisited, (a non-fiction book by the same author being amazed at how quickly his predictions came to be) you'll look twice at a lot of stuff going down in our country right now.

Regardless, Prince is insane. Great song, though. One of my all-time favs by the man. No joke.

i agree that the song might have been somewhat inspired by huxley's novel, but the lyrics are

completely prince and 0% huxley.

anyway, great song, one of the best on emancipation.

Funny you mention it cause it's been swirling around in my head lately.

A very cool song that always reminds me of one of my visits to MPLS and cruising around Chanhassen!

after "in this bed eye scream" and "joint 2 joint" this was the 3rd song on Emancipation

that totally grabbed my attention. "my computer" was the 4th.

Seems you're in a minority there.

And, anyway, New World is still a bit of a rehash. There are a number of musical similarites to La La La, He He He, but reworked in to a fresher sound.

Its a success in my view (and many others by the looks of it).

What "modern" sounds do work for you?

Great tip, thanks. Never knew about this. See the inspiration now behind it.
