My,how soon we forget. Remember his comment regardng "more album releases" in the "guardian interview" thread? Although, I hope he changes his mind.
Interesting re-read of how some of his "so-called hardcore" fans truly feel about him too...wonder if Prince ever read this?
Whatever happened to orger "thisisit?"

Whether or not Prince is here, or has ever been here reading what people write really has no bearing on anything. He does exactly what he wants, exactly how he wants to do it, regardless or what anybody else thinks. Always has, always will. If it were otherwise the last twenty years would be vastly different. And I'm not even saying that's a bad thing at a base level. In most cases it would be something to be respected. But sometimes even the greats need a little guidance, advice or a helping hand.

If was Prince would be doing exactly what he is doing now. "NOTHING". Its obvious he woke up & realized after seeing how many suppose unappreciative hardcore fans joined his now defunct Lotuflow3r website. That they don't support him anymore.
So now he is doing him & catering to his casual/ celebrity fans.Having the afterparties 4 them at his hollywood mansions & playing private gigs 4 the rich & famous who adore him. Good 4 U Prince.Make ur living its ur life. 'm still here though. U will be 4ever my hero... will support U all the way. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

I think some of you are reading way too much into why there has been no album release for 2 years
He's likely still in 'recording rehab' and/ or waiting for the industry to settle into an entity he feels he can run with
He's on record saying as much. Given the reason is from prince himself I'm inclined to run with it rather than take any one fans interpretation

first of all:
lotusflower dot com would have had 500% more members if the site had actually been accessible at the launch date, instead of only being unlocked through solving some stupid riddle, which even die hard prince fans just did not crack due to the sheer stupidity of the site's set up (most people eventually came to the org to get the answer).
so casual fans and hardcore fans alike, had a hard time even getting into the site. at this point i'm fairly certain that any casual fan who was even aware of the new site launch just gave up. then it was down to the hardcores to suffer through the rest of the site. once inside, it was a rather steep admittance fare for what you ended up getting.
however, with the 'promise' of shows being streamed live, '10 discs worth of vault material having been sifted through and considered for future inclusion on the site' etc etc, people though to give it a go anyway.
we all know what happened then. or well, we don't. whatever happened, prince changed his mind, obviously. so we got a few videos that every (even casual) fan had already seen a hundred times or more on mtv and no more new music (except "cause and effect" being streamed, days after it was premiered on radio). meanwhile new music showed up on the lakers site and on the montreux website. talk about adding insult to injury.
oh well. the site went offline anyway, so we could all try to forget about it again.
so don't twist it and make it out like prince got so disappointed due to his hardcore fans when the reality is that without his hardcore fans he would have had 700 members for his lotusflower site to start with. especially with that ridiculous riddle and a 77 dollar entrance fee for music that you had the chance to pick up at target for 15 bucks.
and second: prince is now catering to his 'casual' fans, who adore him? casual fans, i will give you that, buy tickets to his shows. they don't give a fuck about his music post 1995. so if he feels like he doesn't want to release new music, it's not the hardcore fans to blame. why would we be to blame? because we joined one defunct website after another, payed anual membership and got short changed again and again? and even when that happened, we still licked our wounds, counted the material we got and said "oh well, at least we got some new music out of it" and then stood in line to sign up for his next web disaster. so those very people are to blame because they supported him when everyone had completely lost interest?
ok.
furthermore i don't believe for 1 second that prince would read the org and decide not to release another album because a small group of people (what, 100 max?) would bitch about his new cds on the org? jeez, how much of an influence do you think we have here?
is that why you call everything prince does a "masterpiece"? because you're convinced that one day prince will read it and invite you to paisley park to do purple jello shots for being such a good little trooper?
i keed, i keed.
last thing: celebrity fans who "adore" prince. once again, excuse me whilst i
a small group of celebrities, yes, they adore prince's talent and shows. the majority of the celebs you will catch at his shows and aftershows tho are just fame hungry media whores who know the prince aftershow is THE place to be seen and/or photographed. shallow socialites who wouldn't be able to name you 10 prince albums if their life depended on it.
fcuz, when prince had his 3121 house parties, people like joni mitchell and stevie wonder were in attendance. that's a whole other league right there. but those parties were not peopled just by the likes of those. mostly they were full of new fame here today gone tomorrow people.
why prince panders to such crowds now when he never did before, i don't know. i don't care too much either.
if he plays a private wedding or birthday gig and gets a few million dollars from that, i say go for it prince, make some money while you can. sure.
if he plays greatest hits tours for 'casual fans', sure, why not.
but people need to stop acting like everything prince does is dictated by what a few negative or perhaps a better word would be (non ass kissing) people say on the internet.
if prince didn't release anymore albums because of what, let's name a wild number, 500 people on the internet say, when he usuall sells 350,000 albums, then who's the negative nancy?
what prince really wants is to sell 22 million albums, like adele, but on his own label so he can scoop up 10 bucks for every unit sold, thus becoming the most successful entertainer ever.
well, that's not gonna happen anymore. so he'll just have to release his albums and make a few million off them. heck, he makes more from touring a few days. so releasing albums should be for the fans. the global give or take half a million of loyal record buying fans he still has and not worry about making millions of his albums. because whatever models there will be in the future, his numbers will not surpass a million copies sold anymore. no matter what 'masterpiece' he can come up with next.
i'm sorry, was that too negative? i guess prince just pushed back the releasedate of his next album with another 6 months.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I think Prince's intention was to provide much more through the Lotusflow3r site, and something went South, so to speak...
With regards to his current and apparent hiatus, I think it was a combination of factors... some of what I mentioned earlier in this thread. But I also have this feeling that he had MUCH bigger intentions with the 20ten project/album, and something disappointed and/or discouraged him... likely that he tried to present the album to a major distribution souce or label, didn't like what they offered, and then released an edited, shorter version of the album for free via the newspaper.

I'm sure Prince has an idea for a new distribution method. If he wants to test the waters with it, he should compile "Crystal Ball 2" and give us that It could have "Our Destiny", "Roadhouse Garden", "Cosmic Day", "American in Paris", "Katrina's Paper Dolls", "I Wonder", "Go"........ |

I wonder what you would say to Prince if you got to talk to him.

I did NOT read most of the 7+ pages of THIS thread in advance. With that said....
Have we already forgotten that Prince said that he was NOT making OR releasing any new albums after the 20Ten album because "the internet is dead" (Prince's opinion of course!) and artists these days can not make hardly any profit from album sales?
Unless I missed the memo, Prince has yet to change his mind.
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Prince has never changed his mind once. Once this guy says something...it is gold. There may be a few very small, very tiny exceptions where he either changed his mind, or was on the verge of not exactly being truthful. I really have to think hard on this one. While I ponder this, I'll come up with a few tiny examples:
1: Press release of possible retirement after ATWIAD and end of Temptation "Goodbye, I Don't Know When I'll return." 2: Crystal Ball: Only available on the internet or through 800 New Funk. (Got mine 7 months after it was in stores, over a year after credit card charged) 3: Roadhouse Garden CD.....hmm..waiting on that one 4: Parade Live....uhh...ummm 5: The Chocolate Invasion....hmm...some issue with trying to figure out how to press 7 cds and get them to invade our homes. Yes, pressing up 7 Cds and mailing them out is some kind of difficult complex math involving voodoo and other difficult invasion tactics...still waiting on the invasion. 6: Re-recorded versions of Prince songs by Symbol guy....hmm... 7: "Real Music By Real Musicians." Well, this is true most of the time. Backing Tapes, "Sampler Set," that could easily be called "Prince Karaoke."
Other than these tiny little things, Prince always does exactly as he says, so we can expect him to stay in studio rehab.
Of course, I partake in some things that I don't always follow up on:
Sure, I'll call you. I'm going to clean up today. I'm not going to bitch about Shelby shouting "Put Your Hands Up." I promise. I'm not going to bring up Tony M and Band Members wearing Star Trek Next Generation Uniforms when I talk about 1991-1993. I'm really on a diet this time.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
@ once Prince says something it is gold.
We know Prince changes his mind/opinion (nothing wrong with that either). There is no way he is still in studio rehab, I think that's just his jokey way of saying he is taking a small break. He said it just after Lotusflower/MPLSound/Elixer and he still recorded and released 20Ten (along with 2 or 3 other non-album tracks)
He's obviously worked with Andy Allo over the last year or two aswell and the pick of those studio tracks will presumable be the three on Superconductor? I'm sure some little hint will be dropped on Dr Funkenberry or Twitter at some point over the next few months (last time I think it was Janelle Monae who let it slip that she had been digging the new album, which turned out to be 20Ten)
Right now I would imagine he is enjoying a break after the Australian concerts. I really hope something then happens regarding re-issues/special editions on CD but new stuff will follow as sure as night follows day. [Edited 6/12/12 3:32am] Just somewhere in the middle,

Prince has officially Retired. No New Album is coming!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Prince lives for making new music, Ive been a fan for so many years to know that something will come soon. He is old now, he's gonna be slower, he's also touring, it's probably taking a lot out of him. When he has a sit down, a break, he will be back in the studio.
I have a theory that Prince actually listens to his fans. And he wants to do a hell of a lot of quality control in the next album, his previously tendancy to just go to the studio and record something without letting the song "rest" is probably something he is trying to rectify. Im sure in the last 6 months he has made 3 full albums, perhaps he will continue churning these out for 3 whole years, then at the end of it, pick the best songs? It would be like taking the 10 best songs out of planet earth/2010/LotusFlower/MPLS - how awesome would that album be??
I think Prince's next move is Quality.
