Exactly...I think not. And in my opinion, this is freaking hilarious. That song is third-rate jingle all over ... and this is coming from someone who played it quite a bit when it came out - because I like jingles. But trust me when I say that I never played it in front of anyone. It's bad enough that the only songs my best friend knows of by Prince are "Betcha By Golly Wow" and "Diamonds and Pearls" without throwing "Hot Summer" in the mix.

That being said...I'm off to buy a Toro lawn mower. Only $299 at Menard's!

It just occurs to me that "Hot Summer" actually literally sounds like the Menard's jingle (which preceded it by a few years for those not in the Midwest) ... "Save big money at Menard's!"

I'd find a clip on YouTube but I'm on my work laptop and those bastids blocked it.

Prince has nothing to prove but it would be fun if he responded in song again.

Prince's rehearsal jam is pretty sweet....take it for what it is....FDeluxe's song just seems stupid to me. Just my thoughts

Why do people say he's humorless? Many people who know him personally have said that he's very funny and has a great sense of humor. Also, there's documented cases of when Prince has been "served" by someone and he was totally cool with it, even respected it. Anyway, every "review" of "Hot Summer" back in 2010 said that the song sounded like a jingle, so this is nothing original nor would it be new to Prince. I doubt he's incensed that people don't consider it great, he probably just came up with it in less than an hour, just like "Purple and Gold," to amuse himself and as a little something for Minneapolis. I don't know Prince, but unlike many of you, my first assumption is that he is not angered by this, and quite possibly amused.

These guys are having fun and doing what they love doing at the same time which is playing music. It can't get no better than that!

haha, yeah, i see your point. But this is worse - it's almost as if some great guitarist were to poke fun at the way Prince plays big rock solos and make them look cheesey and lame... all of a sudden a bunch of people who were happily buying the Prince-as-guitar-god image would be given a little shake, and I bet that would make Prince mad.

ps. I'm no guitarist, I can't judge Prince's playing like that. The above is a hypothetical scenario.

I do a fair bit of Prince defending round here, but c'mon the Mutiny 'gift' was a low blow . FDeluxe and TO7 - whether you like their recent releases or not - have fought through all the obstacles put their way and put product out there.

Imo FDeluxe are right to respond and they did so with force. Good for them.

big props to FD. Their CD is better than most of what P has released over recent years [LF Single disc aside IMHO!]. FD got P on the ropes, just need 07 to deliver the knockout punch now !!!.

All the usual serial haters can say whatever they want to but:

- Nobody knows who shit FDeluxe are apart from us.

- The only few decent songs they have have been produced, arranged, composed by Prince with crappy singer Paul adding his voice layer on top of it.

- They were desperate to play for Prince to earn abit of cash since they end up touring in pathetic shitty clubs in front of a pathetic Prince fans audience and the answer from Prince was: NO!

- Prince will be touring Australia and Europe this summer (yes he will) with a great success while they'll be in Minneapolis trying desperatly to tune their instruments in Paul's garage.
