oh please, all you're doing is giving your opinion like everybody else, you're no more "legit" than anyone unless you are a personal friend of Prince or any of the associated artists which you are not....and never will be and i think the responses to you have been on topic but in disagreement.

Me??? Naaaa rainbow

I just believe based on FDeluxe's response there is no reason to believe anyone hates anyone, unless I hear it from the artist themselves. Anything less is nothing more than a bunch of guessing and speculation and they are still free to do what they want and be the musicians they want to be without any involvement from Prince.

and that is valid because every body always admits to the news papers that they hate someone? actions speak louder than words imo

you are still interpreting and formulating a guess calling it a fact, from an outsider looking in. Hate is a strong word and there is nothing that FDeluxe or O7 said to indicate that Prince hates them and if Prince is that hateful, why would they even consider the possibility of still opening up for him. If that were the case as you stated, then I would question FDeluxe's self-respect and integrity to still want to have anything to do with someone who hates them, when they have the freedom now to do what they want, without any involvement of the person you claim hates them.

Trevor my point to you is that no one knows what is truly ever discussed between Prince and former band members or how their current relationship
is. So why speculate or make false accusations, especially when you have no hard evidence, and most of what you hear or read, if you don't hear it from both sides, is based on rumors and speculation, and all you're doing is drawing anger from it. Doesn't make any sense.

I will comment on the concept of "brining back" former band members as I've recently been studying the music industry and perhaps can share what I've observed so far:

In any major city in the U.S. there are at least 50-100 GREAT musicians (possibly more depending on location, genre, etc.) and another 500-1000 really GOOD musicians and probably another 2000+ hobbyists.

This is reasonable if you consider all the bands in high schools and colleges in ALL cities; the symphony and miscellaneous garage bands.

Now, multiply those figures by the number of potential cities and then add the same for multiple countries (international) globally.

Music gigs are not easy to get, no matter how good you are. If Prince were to keep the same band members year after year after year after year, ultimately he would miss out on some of the best new talent (and there is plenty). Obviously there are other considerations to creating a cohesive act and it depends on what direction a band leader wants to go, but I digress.

Most bands do rotate their band members. For those artists who are fortunate enough to have a standing gig, they truly are fortunate but it is rare these days and generally doesn't last.

Prince's former band members (like other groups) were fortunate to play with Prince when they did. It would be great for them to do it again, but considering the pool of talent out there, it doesn't seem likely and maybe not such a good idea. I suppose for novelty purposes it would be cool, for a minute but that would certainly be fleeting. Besides, I'm of the school that people really do come to a Prince concert to see Prince. They may be amused and entertained by the other acts but its Prince they come to see/hear. This is true of any headliner.

I would think the former band members (and let me say that I think they are great too) should try to carve their own niche independently, like Sheila E is doing. Its in their best interest to do so--become their own headliner.

Most artists who've not had the benefit of having their own success or a Prince-like headliner have had to go at it on their own without the benefit of someone's celebrity. At least 07 and FDeluxe have that as a starting point which is much more than others.

That's nothing against them, that's just the industry.

Good points, and nice post. I gather it is difficult no matter how good you are, especially if you don't have an established, famous musician/artist or someone in the industry who has a lot of pull, to help promote a musician/artist or assist them in getting major gigs. Even as openers

I also agree that many of Prince's former band members from back in the late 70s/80s/90s/ and some in the 2000s, that are no longer part of his band, were given the opportunity to be 'showcased' as a separate project or to perform on stage with him, at some point, in their lives, but through his career he has always helped other artists, and because of that association, some of their names remain familiar to his fans.

These days there are a handful of musicians/artists with household names from back when Prince started, who are able to fill or sell out/fill arenas, yet Prince continues to gain fans from all age groups, from all over the world, and stil maintains a diehard fan base.

On another note though, I do think, however, when some of Prince's former band members, decide to regroup about 20 years later, it seems some of Prince's fans, seem to believe that he should step in and assist them, as though he has some obligation or responsibility to do that, when they were already given that opportunity many years ago. I'm not saying the members of Fdeluxe or 07 feel that way, but it seems some fans may. Another thing is, yes, he may own the names of their former bands, and written songs they currently sing, under a new name, but I don't see any reason why some fans actually think that Prince shouldn't sing or share songs he wrote with new members of his current band? Where was the contract that said he should never do that or not be allowed to? If they are his songs, he can sing it and share it with whom he likes, regardless if some fans have this idea in their heads, that he should not sing songs he wrote for some of the former groups he called the shots on.

Anyway, there have been many songwriters who wrote famous songs, who later decided to start their own singing career, and have sung songs they wrote for other artists. I see no crime in sharing something you created with other artists.

Of course you have a right to lol even though it will be the same old, same old, Cry me a river, lake and ocean:: You say you want him to blow your mind like he used to? Well, it's obvious dude, from your wild rants, his very existence as a musician is still blowing your mind. Why do you think you're on here whining and crying, demanding, and craving for more of his music, to the point your blood pressure is rising over it?

Now, I'm sure you wish you could achieve his success as a musician, but you know what? Here's a little pancake without the syrup wisdom....it might help if you concentrate more on learning how to 'grind' to reach that goal, and do less 'hating', and maybe one day you'll be blessed with the same success as a musician, Prince has and is blessed with. thumbs up!
