FDeluxe responds to Prince.... I couldn't decide whether this should go in Associated Artists. Given that it's a direct response to Prince's release/musical statement (Mutiny/Ice Cream Castles) I felt it was appropriate here...

Fdeluxe (Formerly The Family) Respond To Prince’s “Mutiny”!Earlier this week, PRINCE released a rehearsal jam exclusively todrfunkenberry.com of "Mutiny/Ice Cream Castles" a response of sorts to if former bands in his Purple Court could open up for him in Australia.
Paul Peterson aka St. Paul of Fdeluxe (Formerly The Family) received the track before anyone else last week....and responded in play to his former boss. They felt Prince was having a little fun with the band, so they thought they would return the serve. Fdeluxe is Paul Peterson, Susannah Melvoin, Eric Leeds, and Jellybean Johnson. The response? "Hot Summer At Menards." Menards is a home improvement store in the Mid-West for those that may not know.
Hmm. "Hot Summer" is a song that Prince gave to the radio station The Current in Minneapolis in June of 2007.
Do they have any garden tools? What do you think of Fdeluxe's response to "Mutiny" and will The Original 7ven/The Time respond as well? We don't think so, but you never know. Will you be going to any "Hot Summer" sales? No? Ok then. Will Prince respond to this response with an even funkier rehearsal jam? Stay tuned........-DocFB

There was already a thread I started over on 'associated artists' but nevermind - lock mine up peeps
Anyone thinking this is all a staged battle

Hot Summer was a pretty weak song. They should have done a riff on "Purple and Gold"..would have been even more fitting.

I hope this isn't manufactured rivalry for something they already know the outcome of.

Could be just to confuse fans and to drum up publicity and keep a mystery about whether or not the associated former bands, will perform in Australia. Even if it's not 'real', fans will make something of it anyway, but if it is 'real', at the end of the day, guess who will have the last laugh? [Edited 4/27/12 13:41pm]

I suspect the same (see reply#9)

I have two takes on this...
1. If it is a true response to Prince its kinda funny and great poking fun at him for that crappy song
2. If its all staged and they are all in on it...damn this is the best ya'll got?
Time will tell...I guess [Edited 4/27/12 13:43pm] The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.
Remember there is only one destination and that place is U All of it. Everything. Is U.

Kudos to FDeluxe - Irony being that there won't be many orgers in disagreement that Hot Summer is one shitty song. FDeluxe have take the banter well imo - they already posted on their facebook a few days ago that Prince is the best live act around. Now they are the first, as far as I am aware, to publically call prince when he releases sub par material. We can only gain. We know Prince raises the bar when he's mad

Buahaha... "Garbage bags, $4.99!" Well, those jingles can be pretty catchy--and probably get more radio play.

OK this was funny.
I predict that the Purple Yoda will NOT be amused. I could even see him throwing C&D at them for using his song.

I can't listen to it right now...
But I think based on what I read, that I have an idea of what it's like and...
I think they probably just pwnd Prince
His fault. I still think that stuff he sent them was just a shitty thing to do.
And I love that pic of the band...

I don't understand the people who will be angered if this is all planned. The original rivalries were planned, manufactured, and mostly fake until they just got a bit out of hand or went overboard, but it was all planned. “Jamie Starr’s a thief.” We all knew that Prince was Jamie Starr, or I didn’t know any real Prince fans who didn’t know that Prince was Jamie Starr and that the rivalries between Prince, The Time, and Vanity Six were manufactured. So, this current back and forth between Prince, Terry Lewis, and FDeluxe is just more WWF or Ali promoting the Frazier fight. So, while I think it's all planned, it's still fun because I like when Prince tries to be all cryptic, even if it is sometimes silly. That's just part of his DNA, like it or leave it. My only disappointment is that whether planned or not, FDeluxe's sampling of "Hot Summer" is a bit weak. I would have preferred if they (or Prince) could have used the sample in a way to suggest that they could take his song and make if funkier. And, sure, I'm in the minority, in more ways than one on this site, that "Hot Summer" isn't a terrible song. It's light and fun even if a bit repetitive. Be that as it may, this is all planned, and it's all fun. In the words of Billy Sparks, "Y'all can't be too far gone to see that?!?"
