i don't like it and i don't dislike it. it just kind of sits there, you know

not sure what to make of this in regards to his communication with the

family or the time. if it's some sort of dig, it's just too sad for words.

but somehow i can't really see it as that. why would he send it to them

as a dis and then they post it as a gift and a sort of praise to themself?

once again it's just one of those moments. hyping and vagueness

taking away from the music.

is shelby annoying? i think she is. at least, in this mix.

why the hell doesn't prince produce an album for this woman who can

obviously sing. instead he pushes her to the front at his shows where

she takes over and gets on people's last nerve after all these years.

it's clear that he believes she's very talented (as do I). but why does he

give Tamar, Bria and now Andy an album's worth of material and just

keeps Shelby in his live band?

I wish he'd treat her like all his other women, give her an album and

then send her packing.

as far as these unreleased/rare songs are concerned. i'd rather hear a

whole evening's worth of this, admittedly rather monotone, jamming on

rare cuts than sit through another "raspberry beret/take me with you"

medley. or another piano set with 10 second, 2 note teases of some of

his cool stuff, before launching into yet another NC2U or whatever.

i'm just wondering what the heck happened after the one nite alone tour.

that tour was on fire. the way he played his songs was just amazing and

inspired.

it's still there. mainly in his guitar playing which i adore right now. but he

kind of makes this same very stripped down, paint by numbers, vegas-y

tribute act funk n roll of all his songs now.

he needs to stick to some of those songs's authentic sounds. what was so

incredibly cool about "hot thing" last year was that it sounded like Hot Thing,

and not like a vegas cover band doing hot thing on their casio.

same thing with tracks like mountains etc. they need that original drum or

rhythm track or those original synth sounds.

you can still vary on the theme, just don't paint everything in the same two

colors when the originals were all over the rainbow.

aaaanywho. i'm still gonna listen to the next rehearsal, even if it has shelby

on it from start to finish.

and then i'll bitch a bit about it. so sue me

is it so wrong that i think the fact that shelby is bald and generally odd looking does add to not enjoying her? especially when you see something live, visuals do play some kind of role

actually, i think that's part of her appeal. she's not some generic dime a dozen lady.

she's got her own style and that's pretty cool.

i just don't want anyone taking that much prime time at a prince show. wether it's

shelby or larry or andy or whomever.

i'm paying to see prince perform HIS songs. if prince wants us to be exposed to the

talents of other people, he should put them on as his opening act.

there'd be absolutely no problem with shelby doing a 30 minute set before his show

starts. or larry (well, i wouldn't mind never seeing larry live again, but you know),

or andy etc.

but when prince hits the stage, it better be prince all the way. some nice backups or

a short cameo, ok, but that's all.

i'd pick prince and an acoustic guitar, just strumming and singing acoustic versions

of his songs all night over any kind of show, no matter how spectacular, that has a

whole plethora of guests and mc's etc going on.

Agreed. The lady can sing, but the visuals have been hurting my eyes for some years now. I think what someone said about Prince giving her an album and sending her on her way is true. Also, the point that Istenzek made about paying to see Prince and only Prince is true. Folks pay mad money to see Prince and I'm sure all these extra folks are starting to get on their nerves.

is because some bunny boiler prince fan sent her like a box full of scorpions

with a picture of herself all scratched out with words like "die bitch, he's mine".

You're right cuz I hated Mayte's ass back in the 90's and I wasn't even online. I also didn't follow Prince alot during those years, but I still disliked her As for Larry, if he or Prince ever reads this-please stop making people listen to Everyday People in concert. I mean damn! The song is great and historical, but we get it already.

sometimes i despair, i really do. The track is given for free and people complain!!. I made all my points on the Dance electric thread and they all apply here i.e. IT's free, it's a jam taped during a rehearsal etc. I am lovin' the fact that the chicken grease guitar is high up in the mix again, lovin' morris hays' keys on this and the rising horns. Come on, go listen again and tell me there ain't at least 1 thing you like about this jam. Come on and get your funk face on!

as for dissin the O7 & FDeluxe, they need not be bothered. They chose their own path last year and gave us 2 amazing CD's, their respective talents stand strong. If P is being arrogant I trust his next record will surpass what they have delivered, hope he was just doing this tongue firmly in cheek. The chap from the FDeluxe camp didn't seem to mind too much - actually he seemed to like it!.

The arrangement/mix is a little bit too treble cute in tone, but nice parts. Would be etter with male back up vocals.

I can't believe Prince let Dr Funkenberry post that unflattering photo!
