Apologies if this has been mentioned before... But did anyone else notice how this new Mutiny/Ice Cream Castles (complete with White Girls/We are young...)

is almost exactly the same as a jam he played on this:

Prince Live 1986 August 2 1986 New York, NY (Soundboard)

In 1986 he added in a bit of "The Roof Is on Fire"....

Also he yells 'Icecream!!' from Soul Psychodelicide Jam...

Really similiar..

Hey if it ain't broke...

Says something about the music when 25 years years later it still sounds fresh...

There's far worse things he could be playing and rehearsing the band with.. I like the fact that its an old jam mash up he's pulled out again. I heard that boot recently and it seriously makes me wonder if Prince listens to these new boot releases and it sparks ideas for him for refreshing the now. Or not.

Hey, I am not really complaining, but I'm also not so happy when someone confirms the rehash is even worse than at first listen.

I'd like him to be somewhat original.

That was what made the older days different.

And about the boots: you have to admit that if your idea is true, then the boots are good for at least soemthing more than what you thought!

bored (::Violins playing 'Cry me a friggin river....again':: ). Yeah but you complain all the time about any and everything when it comes to Prince's band, music, and the list goes on with you, so your complaint is just the same old, same old. Nothing new with you. lol At the end of the day, the one calling the shots for the band, is the one who will be making the decision as to who gets to perform in the band. So why are you knocking yourself out complaining about a situation, where you have no final say as to who gets chosen to perform in a particular musician's band? You either go to the show or you don't, if either is your personal decision. That's basically the bottom line.

[Edited 4/24/12 19:05pm]

Not True. I pick on his live performances from 2006-present. I praise The ONA tour of 2002, and the Musicology tour of 2004. Those were not perfect, but had some awesome moments. They both had at least 15, sometimes 20 or more great to awesome full length vocal performances from Prince each night.

I praise every single Prince album, with a few exceptions, and wish there were less of them, but huge box sets to release the stuff that shouldn't be on a major album release. (This way we still have a huge body of work to listen to). Still, I listen to 3121, Planet Earth, Lotus Flow3r(Not MPLSound or Elixer), 20Ten, The Rainbow Children, Rave.... a lot, and enjoy nearly every song on those....and with these recent albums, I am pretty happy and satisfied.

For someone to suggest that I hate every single thing about Prince has no idea how to read and comprehend my fairly simple to read posts. I'm not typing in cryptic messages. I do clown on Prince when he does things that look corny or sound stupid. I do clown on his touring band, and many of his decisions to not really sing...either by hiding behind background singers, or holding the microphone for fans to sing long stretches like he does in Kiss. If you paid $300 to see Prince, wouldn't you want to HEAR him sing Kiss?

There are usually 3 type of posters on here:

1. Overly Positive: Prince is perfect. Andy Allo and Tony M are legends. I love them all so much.

2. Overly Negative: Prince died in 1989, and everything about him afterwards stink.

3. Honest: The fans who like some things, and don't like others, and are honest about it. That takes a lot of guts around here. If you dare say you like any song on Planet Earth, Bart will tell you that you are a moron. If you dare say you don't like something, Tons of overly positive posters will complain that you are complaining too much. (That's really funny...usually the people that complain about the complainers don't have the sense to figure out that they are also complaining.)

So like it or not, I'm going to give my opinions, both positive and negative. I'll tell you when his guitar playing on "The Question of U" is epic, and I'll tell you when he is not willing to do the work on vocals...like on Mountains where he barely sings...the song sounds great, but I have to resort to 1986 bootlegs to hear Prince singing on it.

Let me know the day you post something positive so I can put it on my calendar. Every post you write is like listening to a jilted teenager talk about the boy who dogged her out. Woe is me! If you can't say something without adding a but... at the end of it then it wasn't meant to be nice in the first place. Everytime is see your name on the side of a thread I literally start hearing violins!

only problem is and i don't agree with u on this, this doesn't sound fresh 2 my ears. when listening 2 even the rehearsal of soul pyschodelicide, the keyboards and groove STOMP unlike this rehearsal 4 me.

but if u like it it's cool

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

No, I'm saying that if you're going to pay a compliment to something or someone there shouldn't be a but at the end of it. He writes reviews of shows like "Oh the concert was amazing but I wish Shelby didn't sing so much and I wish Prince sang full songs and I wish he'd retire certain songs and play some different ones." That's not a compliment. That for lack of a better word is being 'bitchy'. Obviously you couldn't have had an amazing time at a show if so many elements of it bothered you. Isn't not about worship it's about honest criticism which is lacking around here. He acts like he's being complimentary then tacks on the conditions for that compliment to really be true to heart.

You know those people at work who have those motivational posters framed in their office that say things like "Destiny," and "Teamwork."

You have got to be one of those. When your boss puts forth a policy where you have to send 8 different emails to payroll to correct a one minute error on an electronic timesheet, you praise the decision as being some sort of improvement.

You can't live in a fantasy land where everything is wonderful and great.

I will say that U2 and Elton John give the same effort tour after tour with less than half the talent Prince has. Ok, I just said Prince has more talent than Elton John and U2 combined....That is a POSITIVE STATEMENT.

I also say that Prince sometimes has concert tours where he is going through the motions like Welcome 2 America...That is a CRITICAL or NEGATIVE Statement.

ONA 2002, and Musicology 2004 were great tours. THAT Is a POSITIVE STATEMENT.

Lately, I think Prince is kind of going through the motions live....THAT IS A CRITICAL OR NEGATIVE STATEMENT...but it is also an OPINION. I actually have them. Every moment of my Prince experience is eligible for an opinion. Since I don't worship every single thing he does, my life has a spectrum of possibility. I could never live with myself if everything was positive or negative. I have a choice. I either like it, I don't like it, or I am somehere in between...but I at least have free will to make a decision. I am so happy I don't go to Prince concerts already deciding if I will like it or not. I get to see the show and decide for myself.

Prince, i really fear u lost your fire.....

A good advice for you:

Start singing your songs

Dont jam every song for 10 min...it gets really boring, when u do that on every song

Dont let the girls take over ( I think they are your backing voices not the other way around???

I hope that the new show in may will be better that this...

For Fuck's sake these are his songs !!! And this is just a rehearsal that you Sir Void of funk nuts can go listen to Justin Bieber and leave the funk to those that can handle it.

Hey Fusk, you're looking really good today but that suit should be a size bigger and you could've polished your shoes and a haircut would've made it nice.

See how it started as a compliment and then I negated it with what I really felt. That what reading his post seems like to me.

Yeah, I thought about this kind of dialogue, and I halfway agree with the point you're making. I just think it depends on context. If you say something like that to me then yeah, I agree that it's probably bitchy (but then again, if you're a close friend or something, you could just be giving me honest constructive criticism). Anyway, I'll give you that between people, always saying '(compliment) BUT... (criticism)' is a bitch thing to do.

But reviewing a prince show is more like reviewing a movie, I think. And somehow with movies you can point out the negatives (along with the positives) of everything you watch and still not be considered a bitch. For some reason saying 'The Godfather is a great movie but characterisations of Fredo and Sonny were too simplistic' sounds like an honest, fair review by someone who might be a huge fan of the movie, while saying 'You're a fun person but 20% of the time you're pretty boring' is a totally obnoxious thing to say.

Sort of a tangent:

I think discussion of who's a hater and who isn't a hater is kind of beside the point. I take it for granted that everyone here loves Prince (or at least part of his career). There seem to be very few people here who literally think everything Prince does is fantastic and very few who think everything he does now is crap. Most people fall in between those extremes. Independent of that, people also differ in what they want to talk about. Some people like gushing over the things they love and others like talking about how things could be better. It's just two different topics of conversation and people have their preference. That's all.

That's how I see it, anyway.

I can't believe that no one mentions the jam finishes on 'Forever In My Life.' The bass and guitars are lifted straight out of the Sign O the Times movie.

I'm digging this jam. Hopefully next week we'll get a 10 minute jam based around Head.

Isn't not about worship it's about honest criticism which is lacking around here. He acts like he's being complimentary then tacks on the conditions for that compliment to really be true to heart.

ok but one can still have a good time at concert but not like one aspect or more about it. i think the sampler set is so damn stupid but some like it. the concert i could have gone to could have been great but if that sampler set was a part of it, guess what? that part of the concert sucked! no harm no foul. i finally got 2 hear moutains live, would it have been better if prince actual sang the lyrics? sure but i was satisfied with it where others may not be. it's still a honest reaction to something.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

but he/she gave the 3 types of fans on here and i can see that he/she is fan number 3 the honest one that can give criticism 2 prince's work. by ur declaration, ur saying that everyone on here should be a type 1 fan who must worship everything prince does and not give a honest reacation 2 something that has been happening 4 now over 8 years. i went 2 the nyc shows and out of the four shows i saw, only the january show blew me away, the february show was decent but not mindblowing. why is it a crime on here 4 someone 2 show their displeasure about prince's work without being jumped upon.

It's pretty easy for me to know which fans are actually reading my posts, and which ones are Type 1 Positive Prince fans. Thank You for reading and understanding.

yw and i just wanna say also 2 u that i know that when u did ur survey that u didn't ask everyone that attended. u just got a small sampling and the responses u got were what they are. the group of people that i hung out with during the nyc, not everyone was jumping 4 joy about the shows either but some did like it. that's cool. for me it wasn't all that. i'm the type of fan that wishes prince would focus more on the current material, 4 some fans they just want what's he's doing and praising this rehearsal as the greatest thing ever, that's cool 4 THEM but not for me cause this rehearsal is lacking something that can make me get the funky face.

Hopefully next week we'll get a 10 minute jam based around Head.

^

Head???

are you joking..? lol

Prince is a Jehovah Witness now, no chance he is gonna play Head again, ever.

he has played head since turning into a JW but without any vocals just the groove

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Yeah, I hear similarities to the "Soul Psychodelicide" jam, the one that lasts like an hour. Maybe thats why I don't like this as much? I would listen to that jam over and over and over and over.

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

Interesting... Perhaps a new version of an old musical device?

Let me say this and then I'm done with this topic. For about 7 yrs from 93 to 2000 I did not follow Prince's music. I lived my life, enjoyed other artist and their work. Yes Prince is a musical genius, but he is not the only music that's good out there. I said that too say this...Fans don't have to continue being fans. We have other choices to spend our money and precious time on. Take advice from people who have supported you for 30 yrs. When we buy tickets we wanna see and hear the artist we paid to see-not background singers or use to be relevant bass players lol or flavors of the month singer/guitar players. "We Want Prince."
