New topic PrintableIt's ok. Not great, not terrible. Of course part of it may be watching a 50 something man acting like a highschooler sending ex associate adults this as a "message". Kind of makes it all pathetic.

Yes Larry you can fuck right off now and leave him alone!!
To the music in hand - yeah its OK but I saw it live in 86 and that was fucking awesome - wooden leg wooden leg gotta chop that tree down!! In the distance a light shines and I know it is mine. Someday I will touch it because it calls me. It says cross the line, cross the line. I know everything is not always what it seems, so I pinch myself daily just in case it's a dream

This is definitely a step in the right direction. Now if Prince would just start selling soundboard recordings of all his shows the way Metallica does…

wow - some people are awfully critical about free music that is a recording of a rehersal. This isn't off a sudio album, this isn't even an actual concert, and it's free. The second free song in about a week.
I guess there's alwasys going to be someone to complain that Prince in 2012 doesn't sound exactly the same as he did in 1986. Guess what, he's not supposed to sound exactly the same 26 years later. How boring would that be if he never changed at all.

I like the Melkweg version from last year more. But still cool. The wooh is on the one!

It's unfair for some orgers to say others are being 'overly critical' or 'moaners'. We all know it's a jam and it's free, but it doesn't mean we all have to like it. We are all allowed to express an opinion on the jam, positive or negative.
I think it's justified to be disappointed, considering all the hype and mystique this new jam has gotten. I think many assumed this could be a new song from a new album, only to be greated with yet another uninspired jam.
Had this just been released without all the hype of being 'incredibly funky' etc. perhaps we would be more appreciative.

this one is a bit better than dance electric, which was just a mumbling of the chorus for about 3 seconds then a long one chord jam .. its nice that the band is almost playing the song .. prince weakness is these one chord jams that really go nowhere and he tends to turn perfectly good songs into them, completely stripping the song of any chord changes or even verses and chorus .. this jam is most definately a shot at the time/family .. i really doubt they will turn up on the tour .. wasn't there a whole .. you cant use the family/time name fiasco .. now they want to be on his tour and he is saying .. nope .. i'm taking back my ship .. pretty blatent and rude .. man those guys must be desparate to get back in his good graces to take an insult like that as tho it were something positive .. i really wish prince would stop changing his lyrics tho .. and don't come up with any new chants .. they are all horrible .. other than that .. its a good jam and a move in the right direction for prince .. nice to hear it raw and almost fleshed out .. the organ sounds fine .. much better than most of the keyboard parts on the welcome to tour .. which were horrible synths .. and there is no jazz piano in it .. which is another great improvement .. this band sounds like it could be a prince band for a change ... of course anything that isnt a sara mcglaughlin cover is a great improvement at this point .. i hope prince fleshes out more classic rarities .. this one hes played a lot over the years and dance electric was far from representative of an actual song .. he would do well to play these kind of songs instead of ANY covers .. his covers SUCK .. the last cover he did that was worth anything was a case of u .. in 84 .. not on that horrid piano album .. even tho that one was ok i guess ..

I don't think that was Larry in the second verse, just Prince in his lower register.

Untalented is a f***ing euphemism... What about "excruciating"? Sorry I couldn't go beyond Shelby's chorus... Had to press "pause" and I can't remember my baby's voice cuz she ain't talkin' no more

Not as grand as Dance Electric imo but I'm defi thankful Prince shared these rehearsals!!

If Shelby looked like Mayte or Salma Hayek U wouldn't be crucifying her like this... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

I was prepared to agree with this. But I can definitely see how "Takin' back the ship. You should've been a little more hip" could be interpreted as being somewhat...well..."pointed."
I'm sure RDHULL is lovin' the sirens, though. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Why are you saying this? Shelby's voice irritates me as much as Mayte's. But Mayte never had such a dominant position at P's shows! And for more than 5 M.F. YEARS now !!! Got it? I can't remember my baby's voice cuz she ain't talkin' no more

I think it is quite obvious what message Prince is sending.
"These are my songs and I own their MF asses so why would I need a support act when I can do this..."
However, it is also clear from the interviews that he is happy for the O7 so not a "nasty" dig, just a playful "I don't need yo but thanks" 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I think both the rehersal jams posted so far (Dance Electric last week and Mutiny/Ice Cream... this week) were enjoyable. Especially since for me none of these three songs were ever huge favorites of mine and they were free.
The hullabaloo over it not sounding exactly like it did in 1986 is absurd. Sorry but being a long time fan I know for a fact Prince has re-worked most all of his songs over the years for concert performances, so nothing new here. It's just nice not to hear "Raspberry Baret/Kiss" for the gazillionith time.
As for Shelby. Well at least she's not singing off key for entire songs like some other mega hyped former band members. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The siren and the Ice Cream Castles organ was the best thing of this jam to me ..but this is NOT Mutiny, it's almost a bastardization imo. Yes, I know that he is reworking several of his classics and non released etc such as E-Loveable and Little Red Corvette. Those two songs worked as some of the reworkings work with the structure of the original song, but imo the original beat, groove, feel of Mutiny is not to be fucked with. Ever. He did it justice the last time he recognized the song with the Hit n Run tour as it bled from Controversy. He put his foot in it with Mutiny on that tour. Had us all hyped, jumpin up and down. What I hear in this rehearsal is a jam that's going to be used for the audience dance sections. You can see her and him etc calling to certain audience sections to move and maybe even some audience members onstage. Thats what this rehearsal sounds like they are preparing it for.
And damn..is this a diss to The Time/07? I thought him doing Cool last year was because he heard they were working together again and getign ready to put out a new release. So here we go again? Wow if so.
But Im not trying to get all Christopher Walken, but this jam DOES need more siren imo.
