While my posts above will reveal that I have been loving this jam, I'm now loving it a little less...

I've listened to it about a dozen times on my laptop and in my van (through shitty factory speakers), loved it every time.

I just played it through my 800W Peavey system and had a much different reaction. Usually it's the opposite, stuff sounds much better on the Peavy than on anything else I own. Not this. It sounds sloppy and poorly mixed.

But, as I myself have pointed out, it's just a rehearsal jam. Oh, well.

How U think its suppose to sound? its a live rehearsal. Not a in the studio album cut..Prince may have just tested it out with the band in one take, like he did the whole Parade album...

yes just like the version of days of wild that was giving out was live all by it's all until he took it into the studio and did overdubs ..

oh wait the very beginning of this says don't come 2 the concert..yes prince and the band did this DURING the rehearsal yep yep

I do take L4OA's point here - there are hints at overdubbing on this cut - the opening chant does not flow with the track and we can reasonably assume they were recorded at differen times

no what i can pick out also is editing. if it's said from the outset that it was a 30-40 min jam and yet there is only 8 mins available, it would prove that there was editing of some sort and overdubs in clearity to make it sound that way. If u have ever listened to ANY of prince's rehearsals previously, u would hear the constant stops, starts, going over sections of the song to know it's a full reharsal jam. where is any of that in this offering? i'm not talking about overall musicianship of the jam, i'm talking of the technical side of how prince does his shows.

this is the same reasoning on why prince edits the live material he releases cause ur not gonna hear prince yell at a technician or bandmates like he's been known 2 do. because there is no visual of this rehearsal, but it's safe 2 assume that when he wants a band member 2 take a solo, he either calls them by name or point 2 them 2 take the solo.

this isn't about picking out just one thing, it's about knowing his characterics of conducting a rehearsal and just by listening 2 this, u can tell it's been enchanced for sound, overdubs and editing.

I like it apart from the crappy whistle.
